@carey741 My impression of the difference is that architects are more art-oriented and do the aesthetic designing whereas civil engineers make the architect's plan practical. Then contractors/construction management implement the plan.

Now,it's hard to work an engineer work.Sometime I think to looking for the new job but I love my job. Recently need to adjust something for future. I hope to see the way soon.
Civil has been a v.impt role all the while. Esp due to the drop in construction materials etc, many industrial projects are coming up. Believed to have an increase in jobs soon, thou now still seen as a crisis period. N'way, u may consider parkin CVs in many job sites first, esp fresh grads, so that when economy picks, u'll be all rdy!
Here's an engineering job site that I found it not bad, focuses in Asia region
Architecture is more based in the design and artistry of the project, and relates mostly to buildings and social structures. Though besides that, they are very similar.
This is a really loaded question: Civil Eng. deals with ALL infrastructure and how it effects man and nature. Disciplines in CE include water/hydraulics, soils/geotech, transportation, environmental, construction management, and structures (structural engineering). CM and structures is where CE overlaps with Arch. Engineering, except Arch. Eng. is less concerned with building structure, and focuses more on building sub system design. Architecture is more about making things look pretty. ;)
Hey everyone im going to school to be for engineering. I want to do repairs and Hands on work with electronics. should I go in Electronical/tronic engineering or technology? I dont want to do ANY appreticships. PLS Help start school in 3 weeks.
I realy wish I could finish my Civil Engineering course... and I can say that it is quite hard... but im proud that I'm in 4th year next semester... God Bless us all whos studying the course of CIVIL ENGINEERING...

5. One final point. Steel also expands when heated. The effect of beams and columns all interlocked, expanding simultaneuosly, can and would cause a tremendous amount of stress in the connections. Imagine a jigsaw puzzle. How hard would it be to keep together if all the pieces suddenly increased in size by 2 percent?
4. the tonnage of steel on the floor of impact is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. Rather you should be asking what the service stress was in the supporting steel columns. As steel heats up its yield stress limit is lowered, melting is not required. If the allowable stress of the steel drops below the service stress of the steel columns, they'll buckle.
1. It is EXTREMELY difficult for a structural engineer to dumb things down so that complete idiots can comprehend what goes into the design of an 81? storey skyscraper.
2. Fuel does need oxygen. If you have ever stood on top of a 50 storey building near the cost you would realise that it is FUCKING WINDY UP THERE!
3. Engineers have now published a book called something along the lines of "The structural failure of the WTC" but you probably wouldn't understand it.
LOLL AHAHA acs1978au and psikeyhackr. Farrr man so smart talking rofll air volume, percentage talk, and fraction value talk. HAHAHAH so cool like really smart talk really cool =D
Shouldn't civil engineers want to know and be able to tell us how many tons of steel were on the impact floors of the World Trade Center?
The 81st floor of the south tower had to hold another 29 stories. How could that much steel weaken from fire in 56 MINUTES? Why don't we have a table specifying the tons of steel and concrete on EVERY LEVEL of the buildings by now?
Are all of the engineering schools in the US accomplices after the fact with WTC 9/11?
well psikeyhackr...my thoughts, the engineers back then never thought that such worst case could happen. What's worst..burning the steels were jet fuel..not ordinary fuel. therefore higher temperature is rapidly achieved..weakening the steels faster..
Fuel needs OXYGEN to burn. It would be impossible to get enough oxygen to the fire fast enough to heat that much steel enough to weaken in 56 MINUTES.
But we are not told how many tons of steel were on the impact floors. Shouldn't CIVIL ENGINEERS understand the importance of that data?
the building regulations do not allow for the conventional steelwork temperatures to exceed 350°C because the conventional carbon steel reduces its 0.2% proof stress at 350°C to 2/3 of its specified values at ambient temperature. This requirement generally leads to massive amounts of fire protection which is very COSTLY...the type of steel used is another question
Building design code (which differ in every country) is used to design a structure. In the design code doesn't emphasize on the weight of the structural steels used but instead the strength of it what matters most, the ability of it to support the loading. So about your quantity question , i don't have any answer for it..and since the dimension of every building is not the same , it is difficult to know the exact quantity of steels used.
Using the same type of steel, of what was available in the late 60's, to get more strength required more steel. I have seen figures of 4 and 5 inch thickness at the base vs 1/4 inch at the top.
Since we are told fire weakened the steel at the impact point, shouldn't it be obvious that they should tell us how much steel was there?
to make your search for how much steel used , it is better for you to contact the steel company which provides the steels for the structure. And of course..question their experts which involves in manufacturing process & quality control of it. i am very sure you'll get your answer.

Geniuses need to resort to psychoanalysis to explain why we aren't told the TONS of STEEL & TONS of CONCRETE on each level of a skyscraper designed in the 1960s.
Curiously the NIST can't even tell us the total quantity of concrete with 3 years and $20,000,000 of research. Dr. Sunder Dunderhead of the NIST says the WTC was 70% air by volume. Of course that explains everything. LOL
1- Irrigation and water systems are civil engineering.
2- Architecture is an art but architectural engineering is, obviously, engineering.
The architect is the person who invisions a house in the shape of a spoon. The architectural engineer is the person who builds that house and makes sure it functions safely and effectively.
@skating1611 they all complete each other ,all the departements of engineering.

LOL

I've two question?! 1/is irrigation engineering a brunch of civil engineering?
2/is architecture engineer or artist? thank you

1- Irrigation and water systems are civil engineering.
2- Architecture is an art but architectural engineering is, obviously, engineering.
The architect is the person who invisions a house in the shape of a spoon. The architectural engineer is the person who builds that house and makes sure it functions safely and effectively.

what are the four aspect?

All aspects of civil engineering are interesting except for site/civil land development. Designing Walmart parking lots just plain blows..
