This is absolutely classic. Thanks so much for upping this. The Demo's were mind-blowing at the time. Now, to see the girls that did the dancing is awesome.

It's known that one of them is called Jannicke Selmer-Olsen (Wikipedia) but what is the other girl's name?? Give her some creds too.

This footage is incredible. I spent the last 15 years always wondering how this was done (I guessed pretty well though) and just who the beautiful girls were that modeled for the digitizing.

I can honestly say, it was worth the wait.

I wish I could somehow put into words how profoundly this demo changed my life back then - how many times I've seen it, commented about it. Every single leap in technology to me has been about Amiga emu and playing this demo - AGAIN. Fantastic. THANK YOU!

One frame at the time, pal, one frame at the time...

As far as I remember, we used a S-VHS camcorder and replayed the video with a VHS-player capable of showing the video one frame at the time with a certain degree of "stableness". Then we digitized the frame with a normal digitizer (DigiView?). Custom software were then used to "vectorize" the images. But all this is a little hazy. It's been "a few" years since I called myself Dark Helmet...

I can't believe how overated the 9 fingers demo is. In 1993 a sad development of the demoscene turned into writing video decoders instead of advanced graphics. Come on, this is nothing else than a crappy mpeg decoder algorithm over and over again.. If you want to see dancing girls, watch MTV!

@warlockuk Yeah, I know. It's not easy to do but around that time a lot of demogroups used the same video decoder algoritms. I still think that it is harder to do 3D graphics on a 7 MHz/1MB computer.

No one had done anything like this before Spaceballs. It was innovative, aesthetically pleasing, captivating, inspiring and the opposite of the at the time "lame" comment. Point is that this was actually "something else" at that time. If you can't appreciate that, it really is your loss. Thumbs up for Spaceballs.

Okay, lets do this shit for the PC system. a 16 gig USB stick, okay, instead of the black algorithm, what about real life scan of the net for movies, digitising, face, and body, creating a digital person, then use hem/her for the demo. everytime you stick the usb in your PC, another person is in play, and the person him/herselve never did this, because he/she is digitised. what about 9 fingers a la 2011. Power man. we can do it. interested? look for SOD/Corporation.

Still remember the reactions from Andromeda for example, as they stated that Lord Helmet did nothing special just timbered an anim player for this prod. :)

Can't recall if it was denied, but I think so... now the #1 evidence saw the light of the day :)

Wow I can't believe someone still has the original video for this! How did they convert the video into animation on the Amiga anyway? I've always wondered that. Where were they from Norway? Sweden? I know a lot of the best Demo coders were from Eastern Europe.

9 Fingers and State Of The Art did amaze me at the time. It made me immensely proud to own an Amiga, but unfortunately my Amiga died a few years back. :( I was going to get another one, but probably not much point now.

I don't know what's so amazing about squeezing this to 2 floppies? ReadySoft squeezed the entire Space Ace game (animated video) on just 4 floppies.

This demo, minus the repeating parts, has maybe 1 minute of video. Using modern codecs I've squeezed whole TV episodes to just 70 megabytes, which is 1.7 meg per minute.

Add just a little more compression, strip the color to black-and-white, and you could fit 1 minute on two floppies quite easily. (Well maybe not "easily" but it can be done.)

Its amazing what some creativity and some really good coding can do. This demo ran on a Motorola 68000 CPU and 1MB of RAM. I have 5 times the power on my mobile phone today.
