I like PM Wen, I hope there are more like him in the future. That said, I think its most disapointing that Chinese even today are still entirely incapable of speaking or acknowledging the truth. They avoid the truth or tell lies or skip around it, but rarely just say what they mean or the truth itself. I hope that changes soon.
@xiangzuodong are u trying to say, the commies should take the credit for the "improvement" of human rights in china, aren't you? Yeah, I see ur point. They do make efforts to "improve" human rights, by setting up black jails, by crushing down people's homes, and also by keeping people from knowing the truth. Pls name one good thing they've done on human rights!
Although abuse of human rights appears in many social aspects in China.HOWEVER, the new chinese government realized the political reform is an INTEGRAL part of the future. In fact, chinese freedom have significantly improved compare to reign of Mao's and Deng's time. especially after the internet age. Despite of the fact some of the sensitive websites are blocked in mainland china, some of the criticized comments are accepted in many websites or even government official pages.
He is the most liberal out of all the leaders in the China. His hands has been tied but he is trying his best to implement reform. I know that lots of people think he is the best actor in the world but deep inside my heart he is the best leader so far in China. China politic is hard to understand even to the pundits and scholars, let alone you guys.
@lizard151103 I think you have to know the difference between constructive criticism and complaints, the former is about appreciating what the other party has done, and suggest for better solutions, the latter is about condemning the other party and whine about the current situation. I found a lot of liberal Chinese trying to accuse their government for not providing them enough freedom, ignoring what has happened in China for the last 30 years.
@wormite please, you're just sying that because you are in a land where freedom could be taking for granted. believe me , when i visit china, everybody is speaking ill of the communist party, the economic growth maily benefit the elite class who are close to the party official. I magine when your land is taken without just compesation, imagine you are living in a land where you can't accessing youtube, facebook, google, twitter and most other western sites!
that's funny, since you can't rely on your own observation of a small particular gorup of people who speak ill of the party, basing your judgement on that is shallow, would it be right if i say that people who have across speak good of the party?
I don't know what your stance is on china or whether you are anti-china anti-communism ..i don't care but i do stand by china and no one can break up china, not taiwan, not tibet and certainly not other western countries
@lizard151103 It is funny, I lived 24 years in China before coming here, and I return almost twice per year, I do not regard myself as westernized at all. Let's first cast away the prejudice of nationalism, then think about it seriously, have you ever seen a country with a government not complained about by its people? The CCP does have a lot of problems, but except for a small amount of extremists, people still regard economic growth as more important than the "democracy" as advocated by US.
@suertehielo LOL, don't be in such a hurry to attack me brother, please remember that extremist by the definition of the word is for a small amount of people, you would not be called extremist if you are the main stream, right? And this is not said by me, but by Robert Oxnam, the former president of Asia society, look at his interview recently. Well, if you say human rights activist, then we can discuss, if you r just judging me, u will only judge yourself eventually.
@wormite since you don't appreciate being judged, then why are you trying to judge people? Plz, tell me how did you know the whole "SMALL AMOUNT" thing? When the economic disparity couldn't be any worse in china, u still think ppl regard "economic growth as more important than democracy?" You're really OUT, man.
@lizard151103 you must appreciate the fact that 40 years ago, food was scarce in china and most people were hungry, 30 years ago, most people do not have access to all the kinds of consumer goods, right now, at least most people are not as hungry as before and can actually watch tv and stuff.~
@jiejingz exactly, 40 years ago, was the Great Leap Forward, a Mao Zedong led disaster that led to the death of 20 million+ Chinese people, How could China not improved, after 30 years of MAO-DISASTER? iT IS LIKE a spring, the harder you press it, the faster it is going to bounce back. but this certainly has a limit.
@lizard151103 I cannot agree with your metaphor, which implies that harder you suppress people, the better they will get after. Yes, Mao did make a big mistake in the Great Leap Forward, but he did not intend to make make people's lives worse. China's leaders afterward learned from the mistake and took a more practical approach, and that why things got better

wakakasc 1 year ago
