  • viva los gallos!!!!

  • this guy is the real deal!....makes me want to hit the agave juice big time!

  • Tom Russell is so cool and this song is so good. Check out a post about Gallo del Celo at the music blog Nightly Song.

  • I saw Tom Russell in the 80's and early 90's. It was only after I saw him that I found that him and Ian Tyson were pals. I am a long Ian fan. My (ex) wife used to go on trips to the city and come back and laugh at me when she found this in the dvd player. She knew I would get drunk and depressed and play this tune repeatedly all night long! LOL "Blue Wing" is another fave.

  • That's a funny story. Thanks for sharing it. lol I love this song even tho' it is a downer. The first time I heard it, Joe Ely was singing it...But I don't have to get drunk to listen to it...thank goodness or I'd be an alcholic by now. ;p One of my favorites by him is 'Tonight We Ride'.

  • @spiritbearNY Sorry. Meant cd player. Had most of Tom's library back then, including an import from Sweden (I am in Canada).

Most of his records were available here, on Stoney Plain records (same as Ian Tyson).

I would put "Gallo" on and sit there in the dark sipping beer os Scotch all night! lol

Also, the was a George Strait tune .... ;)

  • great music ! thanks for posting and it's neat that Tom and Ian Tyson are good friends. I live Ian.

  • Hi vikkidylan, you're very welcome! I just uploaded a couple more Tom Russell videos as he played Joe's Pub again last night. Will upload more if people want to see 'em. He did mention Ian as well last night during his set.

  • Well, I guessed that's what you meant. :)

Where in Canada are you? I traveled across Canada with Russell and the Flatlanders last year on VIA Rail Song Train trip. They also performed concerts in Toronto and in Vancouver at the start and end of the trip. Did you happen to catch either of those shows? I fell in love with Canada on that trip. Wish I could do it again! It was fun to see how much Canadians appreciate Russell and the Flatlanders too, altho' the Flatlanders wowed the crowds more.

  • I like this music, singing isn't bad either. who is this Andrew Hardin,? I was Hardin and I don't know of any Hardin's that could play mucis or sing? Most couldn't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it, Me included.

  • Ha, ha, meadowlarkgabriel, that's too funny. There are, indeed, some very talented 'Hardin' musicians. Tim Hardin, singer/songwriter comes to mind right away. And i think Andrew Hardin was good. It's just that Michael Martin is a totally different guitarist.

  • And flgnews, after watching some of the 'news' on your channel, it's quite obvious you know a lot about masturbation but maybe not so much about music?

Michael Martin is a master guitarist, who manages to fill in the blanks of Tom's own playing beautifully. He is selfless and self-effacing. To say he is 'showing off' is to not have a clue about him and his music. Far from a show-off, Martin is selfless and happy in the background to other musicians; and they sound better because he's there.

  • I saw Tom and Michael Martin at Leicester last year and Martin was brilliant on guitar

  • Annesley, thank you for confirming what most who have heard Martin already know. Michael is a brilliant musician and it really pains me to hear someone put him down as a 'show off' because his playing differs from another.

Frankly, i watched some of the Russell-Hardin videos on youtube and thought Hardin was pretty uninspired and too sparse in his playing. I think Martin compliments Russell and adds much more richness and texture to his songs.

  • I don't know how Tom and Andrew Hardin came to a parting of the ways but Michael Martin can't change Andrew's guitar strings. MM's show off-licks are like masturbation compared to Andrew making love.......

  • I love this song. Thanks for posting

  • You're welcome, wldcat57! I love it too. I especially love it by Joe Ely. Did you check out the video i posted of the two singing it together in Canada with the other Flatlanders? That was amazing, if a little uneven 'cause i don't think they had rehearsed it.

  • He had one eye rolling crazy in his head>> 5/5

  • he is fabbbbuloooooouss.

  • bravo!! and so very lovely!!! happy saturday!

    cheers,

    michael

  • Please post more!!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Musicfirstlove, i only have one very short clip other than this. Would like to see it? It's not a comlete song, but i'll post it if you want.
