This is proven tech. Ww2 subs were d. Electric. Combution engine charges the batteries. The batteries supply current to the electric motor. Electric motors have high power no transmision and very little maintenance. I heard chevy is going to offer a lease.
Here is a good question.. The gasoline motor is rated at only 71hp... The car's electrical motor is said to have 161hp.. When running in extended ranged mode that would mean power would be less then 71hp due to energy loss. Will that mean in extended range mode the car will only go 40-50mph and accelerate extremely slowly?
Can't wait til it comes out....It's great that when the gas generator kicks in it will directly power the electric motor to move the wheels instead of first charging the battery then the electric motoer and it will directly charge the battery to keep it at the 30% charge level.....
im just wondering how you would charge it if your going traveling. is there some sort of plug or is it only one place that you can charge it which is your house. its not like you can fill electricity in a container.
@TheAutoChannel so its not completely electric? and so when you are traveling its gas or how does it work? you drive till you run out of battery charge than run on gas?
It's a hybrid, sort of, except that the gasoline motor is not powerful enough nor connected to the drivetrain to move the vehicle, only to charge it, when neccessary. Visit The Auto Channel website for more details. We have dozens of text reports and many more videos about the Volt.

There is a small gasoline engine on board that recharges the vehicle.
