Damn, I am so lucky that I have had French lessons in school otherise I wouldn't have heard of many great French songs. Well, this is my favourite one :D Vive la France! :P =)
Souds like a nice melody but what is the hub bub all about? To me it sounds like that blonde lady is a lover of Ella, whoever that is. Nothing new there. Many women are lezboz or bisex.
There is no need to get ones panties all in a bunch.

In 1988 while dancing to this song I fell in love with a wonderful man for the first time in my life. Sadly like most all first loves it became a failure. MRR, sometimes I still think of you.
@Dinosaur760 Parfait! By the way, the best thing you can say to a French person who figures you can speak a bit of their language is "Je sais me faire comprendre" ('I can make myself understood'). It both sucks up to them and sounds completely natural, in French.
@Dinosaur760 Enfin je vais m'encoucher mais you can leave the "ne" out but keep the "pas" when using the negative when speaking French. Using the "ne" is like saying " I do not" instead of "I don't".
@TheJohnflynn64 That works...except not in Pain Court, Ontario, a small farming town outside of Chatham, Ontario. I think it is a town? It is so small. The French spokent there does not resemble anything spoken by any other community not even Quebec who is a barn, some say, to the country of France. But, you are rite! France is an English gal needing a good French lesson. Thank you.
@iriswigle Extraordinaire! The first time I learned a difference between European French and Canadian French was through the word "maintenant" (i.e. European 'mantenong' and Canadian 'mantenaaaa'). I had no idea French was spoken in Ontario but greetings to Short Bread! The nearest city is Waterford in Ireland. It has a type of floury bread bun (burger shape) we call the "blaa", which is just a distortion of blanc/blanche (la farine, c'est blanche, n'est-ce pas?) Vive le Québec! Vive le Canada!
@Zoli049 Stupid anonymous people who think they can slander a whole nation on youtube. Must be cool in your eyes, but you sound like a poophead for cluttering the wall to an awesome song with your racist dung.
The problem, if it is a problem, with French songs is that their lyrics complement the music and they are difficult to translate in another language without dammaging the beauty of the verse. Just imagine Patricia Kaas' "Les hommes qui passent" in English !
kate ryan is just a weak version of this song; it just proves K.R. doesn't know nothing about syncopes & feel of songs. This song contains the right notes at the right time at the right beat!
My English is not that good but I found a lyrics and i try to translate the song. It has more than 500 characters so look beneath: It's like a happiness, as a smile, something in the voice that tells us to say "come" that makes us feel strangely good It's like the whole story from the black cloud that's balancing between love and despair Something's that's dancing inside If you got it you got it
Ella, she's got it that what I don't know Something no one else has that makes us happy Ella she's got it Ella she's got it Ou-ou ou-ou ou-ou ou Ella she's, Ou-ou ou-ou ou-ou ou, this strange voice Ella she's, Ou-ou ou-ou ou-ou ou, this strange happiness This gift from heaven, that makes it beautiful Ella she's got it Ella she's got it Ella she's, ou-ou ou-ou ou-ou ou Ella she's got it She’s, ou-ou ou-ou ou-ou ou
She has that little bit more feeling That inexplicable charm, That small flame Knock on tones On piano’s On everything that god could put between your hands Show your smile or your crankiness But you’ve got nothing, you’ll be king You search for the power in your sleep See that you don’t know it If you got it, you got it Ella she’s got it That I don’t know Something what others don’t have That make us feel happy Ella she’s got it Ella she’s got it
Ella elle l'a means Ella's got it! It's a hommage to Ella Fitzgerald and other black artists who have "got it". That "je ne sais quoi". That elusive something.... which is a gift.
@wmkw1 If you watch on the right side of your screen, you see "Suggestions". Scroll all the way down, press the button for "more suggestions", and the one at the bottom is the video you can watch with translation. Enjoy!
@Runnershighfive We are all entitled to our opinions but if you knew the story behind it, you might think differently. It's too deep for some people to understand...
ON T'AIME FRANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to be so hard on you. I'm a french canadian so it's easier for me to understand since I knew that song from a long time ago and did my research on what was behind it. I had a good idea that it was about Ella Fitzgerald but I still wanted to be sure. It's such a touching story of a black little girl who lost her parents when she was very young(early in the 20th century) but managed to pursue her dreams. Yes, very inspiring indeed!!! : )
@nickofrej "She has (got) it" "I don't know what" "When you've got it, you got it". Which works perfectly fine since Ella (a name), elle l'a (she has it) sound so similar. Plus there's lots of nice babble that I'm too lazy to translate.
@nickofrej : It is beautifull. It's French and i think you know that. I am not French either (Dutch, learned some french at school), but you can understand something when you try.
Maybe it helpes when is say in the Netherlands it's common to learn some German, French and English at school. So why can't you?
@nickofrej Wonderful song to honour Ella Fitzgerald : Gaiety, a Smile, something in her voice that seems to say : come ! That makes us feel strangely fine. Like the whole story of Black people, swinging between love and hopes, Something that dances within you, If you've got it, you've got it ! Ella, she's got it ! This I don't know what that others don't have That sends us into Rapture ! This Gift from Heaven that makes her beautiful This very little supplement of Soul Ella, she's got it !
@eletronicEgo the music you grew up with will always be the best. for everybody! guess what ... even for little kids growing up these days. but why shouldn't there be real emotions by "real musicians/people" anymore? just look a little bit beside the mainstream and you will finds tons of good music ... ;-) just depends on what kind of music you're into... never been into mainstream music at all, just stranded here because of this song stuck in my head since yesterday! :-D it's a good one though
Beautifull song , woman ! Bringing me back in 80'' ! Lots of French women , left a bitter in me , but , all , forgiveing !
