@iriswigle Extraordinaire! The first time I learned a difference between European French and Canadian French was through the word "maintenant" (i.e. European 'mantenong' and Canadian 'mantenaaaa'). I had no idea French was spoken in Ontario but greetings to Short Bread! The nearest city is Waterford in Ireland. It has a type of floury bread bun (burger shape) we call the "blaa", which is just a distortion of blanc/blanche (la farine, c'est blanche, n'est-ce pas?) Vive le Québec! Vive le Canada!

Sorry to be so hard on you. I'm a french canadian so it's easier for me to understand since I knew that song from a long time ago and did my research on what was behind it. I had a good idea that it was about Ella Fitzgerald but I still wanted to be sure. It's such a touching story of a black little girl who lost her parents when she was very young(early in the 20th century) but managed to pursue her dreams. Yes, very inspiring indeed!!! : )
