Dionne Warwick's version has been one of my favourites songs, and the reason why I am such a huge fan of the BEE GEES and the song writing of Barry Gibb.

It isn't just that he wrote so many songs, it is they are so completely diverse.

He wrote great songs for female singers, that are never cheesy they are soulful, deep and some are senusal too. I like what Barry gives this song when he sings it, beautiful work.

Well, another masterpiece from the Gibbs. I must say I prefer Dionne's version to this synthesizer and drumcomputer shit, it takes the soul out of the Bee Gees and song. The market forced them to make the leap to modern electronic R&B, but they tried too hard...some things are better to be left 'Old Skool': Just add real musicians with Steve Gadd on drums and the result could have been as fantastic as 'How Deep is Your Love' and 'Too Much Heaven', two towering examples of good producing....

This video skews the sound somehwat, and the Bee Gees didn't like this version hence the left it in the can for 7 years.

Good real players don't always mean the arrangements work though, Steve Gadd nor Don Felder could save the majority of the Living Eyes album from production oblivion. I don't think they tried too hard, they just corrected where they had fell on that album.

Perhaps they were a little afraid of it all going tits up again like it did on Living Eyes, hence the introduction of a more synthesized sound; plus of course they always move with the times. I like the sound they established on Spirits in terms of production style, Maurice had the right idea on the Carola and Robin's albums, and I think they ended up with a good mix.

ESP has a little too much echo, One just about gets it right, High Civ was a bit mechanical, from there it was plain sailing.

I know it was recorded for a "Love songs" album which was supposed to be released in 1995 but it was delayed because they decided to work first on a new album because of the many ideas and inspiration they had those days.

That album became as you certainly know "Still Waters"

Songs like "Rings around the moon" and "Love never dies" were also supposed to be released on that "Love songs" album so they were recorded already in 1994 too!!!!

Sources were on the fanclub magazine (The Spirit)
