sorry for asking does VMWARE or VPC changes your partiion table and causes datalosing? i share my computer with my brothers and sisters, so i need my harddisk intact!:)
@dustrman03: runing Windows is not vital, because i only need it less than 5% of the time on my Mac. By comparison, I run World of Warcraft at least 30% of the time, and Safari browser perhaps 40%, and for doing UNIX stuff, perhaps 3%, which isn't much, but nearly as much as I need Windows.
The arguments being put forward by these Windows user is amusing and futile!
Windows does not run Mac only games.
Windows does not run Mac only applications.
Windows does not run Linux only games.
Windows does not run Linux only applications.
Thanks to VMWare, almost ALL software for ALL operating systems can run on the same machine. I wonder how many Windows laptop owners have ever played a game on their computer that uses an accelerometer!
honestly, do you really believe that? mac fanatics all talk about how glitchy and virus-prone PCs are, and I honestly can't remember the last time I've had a virus on my computer. I run Vista on my laptop and XP on my desktop, and they both run great. I don't even have a virus protection program on them, aside from the ones that come with windows.
side note: how many games run on macs? a handful. how many games run on windows? ALL OF THEM.
ummm i dont see the big deal. even if you needed all those monitors, you have been able to do it for years. maybe this is new to mac users, but i've seen 4+ monitors before. also, watch for the cut at about 1:44. it makes me question whether or not there really were eight screens...
Hmmm...did you see the screenshot with 8 logical monitors showing up in Windows XP? I can assure you, there were eight. I had to scavenge them from around the office.
Also: you've never been able to do 4+ monitors with a virtual machine solution for Mac. That's the point of this demo.
you really don't seem to have a good understanding of mac users. lots and lots of mac users have two monitors or more and that includes graphics designers, movie makers, professional programmers and etc etc.
regarding the price, you can't even get that two 2.8ghz xeon quad-core cpus for 1k. as a matter of fact, it costs $794 per cpu! using high spec hardware doesn't necessarily mean apple's products are dead expensive, it's just high end, high performance.
Well, considering I'm typing this from a 4.0 GHz dual core chip I overclocked, I think it's quite possible to replicate Mac Pro hardware for $1000. :)
Anyway, point being, it's too bad so much of Apple's market is excluded from the multi-monitor awesomeness depicted in this video.
yes, overclocked and only half the core numbers. it's like tuning a nissan 350z and buying a true ferrari, which one would you pick? of course normal people would pay that bit extra to have insurance, guarantee upon failure.
stability is also part of the spec don't forget mate. and for serious professional jobs, dual core is inadequate and pathetic.
apple's most products now target at home consumers, to those the 24-inch display is already "oversized". for we enthusiasts, of cos we'd get a pro
The problem with that car analogy is that underneath a Nissan and a Ferrari, are two different animals.
When you open up a modern day Mac, you see the near identical components of a PC. (In fact, the RAM modules, etc are often made by the same companies).
The only difference here is the OS and chassis. (Apple benefits from the fact that they can control the variety of hardware they want to support. Makes things easier to keep stable.)
LOL! You are an idiot. This is virtualising Windows in OS X- it means you can do MORE on the Mac....i.e. run OS X AND Windows.....good post though .....haha.
sry rite, i forgot, lol it wuz like 10 p.m after 5 cups of coffee at 5 pm, i wuz tired XD, and i think for mac the 8800 GT is out, also u could have had the quadros
Thanks to the VMWare Fusion Team! I truely LOVE my virtual machine, have baught one, it's totally worth the money guys! :) I've got a question though: Is it possible to include an option with which I can start the VM totally in the background? So that I won't see the big vm "resuming" window? (As seen at 3:18) That'd be GREAT
Maybe include a progressbar in the dock icon instead, like "handbrake's progressbar"? This way the big window is not "in my way" and one can see that the VM is loading....
Seriously the application icon at 128px or larger was important???? I created the icons, they are all vector, and 512 was in the resource from the beginning, where exactly are you seeing the icon bigger than 128px except opening the resource to steal it lol.. confused.
The point of the demo is to show the uselessness of an actual Mac.

This video just shows that windows is still essentially a vital product for mac users, even if they don't admit it.
dustrman03 3 years ago
LOL I know.
I wouldn't be surprised if Apple was behind all this. Perhaps another way to shamelessly steal a couple more PC users.

The only Mac hardware that can do even 3 monitors (Mac pro) is $2,799. That's a lot!
I can build a PC that will perform better than a Mac Pro for under $1k.
So as cool as the multi-mon demo was (and it was VERY cool) it's sort of irrelevant to 99% of the potential market.. :(

it still doesn't change the fact that you can do all that and more on a pc for much less.

Finally, the application icon's are high-res. Thank God, that was really getting annoying having only 128-pixel icons.

When in Cover Flow mode in the Finder?
staraffinity 3 years ago
In Mac OS X Leopard you can see the bigger Icons in the search. Just use the Finder search Cmd+F
Tonidigital 3 years ago
As staraffinity said, Coverflow. Or was that not obvious?
