I understand why some CWP holders wouldn't want to use this gun for a concealed carry option, but I have a full-size springfield 1911 mil-spec that I carry almost every day and its never been a problem except in situations where my wardrobe is limited such as in the summer time when at the beach/lake or similar situations, but in situations such as this ANY handgun would be more difficult to conceal, so I've never found it to be a problem to comfortably conceal a 5" 1911. But that's just me
I have this pistol, I love it, it is a brick though but accurate even at long range distances. I DO carry it concealed in the front of the pant, its not that bad with the correct holster.
LOVE THE GUN HATE THE GRIPS I WISH SPRINGFIELD WOULD MAKE SOME G-10 GRIPS FOR THEIR "LOADED AND THEIR OPERATOR" SERIES MAYBE AS A REQUEST ONLY THING TO SAVE COST BUT EVEN IF IT WASN'T A STANDARD FEATURE IT WOULD BE AWESOME TO HAVE AS AN OPTION EVEN IF THEY WERE DESIGNED THE SAME AS THE COCOBOLO GRIPS ON THE "LOADED" MODELS BUT MADE WITH G-10 ID PAY THE EXTRA $80-$100 THEY WOULD CHARGE
Are springfields 1911's made in the USA? My friend just got a XDM and we were both surprised to see made in Croatia. Not that I am against foreign guns but I was under the assumption that springfield made everything they sold in America.
@Carbide195 I found the answer to my question. I gues IMBEL out of Brazil make all the frames for the 1911's that springfield uses. Springfield does everything else though. Except on models barring a N at the beganing of the serial number. I guess all models with serial numbers beganing in N are manufactured and assembled in Brazil. I was considering a springfield 1911 for my first 1911 but I think I'll get a remington R1 instead.
great video but i think itd be a lot better if you showed how to dissasemble, its arguably the, or one of the most important things, to know about any gun.
Springfield Armory: Customer Service WAY ABOVE ANYTHING I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED...ANYWHERE. I own the Operator 1911. Had two issues with it, sights were adjusted "low hold" and I asked them to change it to "point of aim." They did it FOR FRIZZLE! I mean paid shipping both ways and did the adjustment EVERYTHING. Now, when they sent it back, it had an extractor issue...again...they TOOK IT BACK, PAID THE SHIPPING BOTH WAYS...
I have a XDM40 for concealed carry, but I think the 1911's fine for that use in the right circumstances. Why? Because we don't live in a society where we need a gun every day. If things got bad enough where I did need a weapon on me all the time, I'd be packin' THIS gun.
This was made for the trials to get a 1911 for (MEU) SOC/ Marine Force Recon, as was the Kimber Warrior/ Desert Warrior but they dropped the program & are now available to the public. The USMC (MEU) SOC/ Force Recon are still using Mix-Match Springfield & Colt frames & slides from WWII, the USMC Armorers do some good work building 1911's with what they have + Bar-Sto Match Grade Barrels, Meprolight Night Sights, Strider Gunner Grips a Light if it has a Rail & lot of Wilson Combat Mags.
I'm with Mistahbombtech let's not get firepower confused with capacity please!!! I can't count how many ballistic reports there are out there thousands maybe that show the dominance of the .45 acp over just about all other concealed carry calibers.
I dont have the ability to watch the whole video, and I am seriously considering buying one of these, so I want to know if this is single action or double action.
How are you doing a review on a gun you have not shot yet. I own the full rail version of that gun and hae been nothing but happy with its performance. I know and work with officers that carry operators. Your not qualified to do a review.
i rented this gun at the range the other day. and all i can say is wow. first time i've ever fired a 45ACP. the recoil wasn't to bad compared to my 9mm and the gun just shot exactly point of aim for me. i better starting writing my list for Christmas.
firepower sucks? no capacity is limited. firepower on a 9MM sucks, .45ACP will take out one person per shot with and experienced shooter. CAPACITY SUCKS NOT FIREPOWER!
Nice video, I own two of this gun and it is a awesome weapon it is very accurate, if you have still not had a chance to shoot it I suggest you do. This gun is by far one of the best pistols made to date.

But honestly, if you're going to review a gun, a knife, or ANYTHING... You have to have used it first. Shot the gun you're reviewing, carried the knife you're reviewing, etc.
This is like me giving the movie "Inception" a 3 out of 10 because I didn't like the box art.
I won't pretend I know better than you, I don't, but please take this into consideration.
@thompk12 What's wrong with being a Glock lover? Most Glock lovers I have run into at the range actually know alot about shooting. They are cheap, reliable, proven, simple, and they comprise of over 65% of ALL polymer sales. For the money, Kimber sux. He has a couple of vids out about the the xd vs glock, demonstrating how they compared even by shooters other than him... What more proof do you need? It's on fucking video! Why should anyone take YOU seriously???
Only two problems with the review: One, that you haven't actually fired it. If you haven't shot it, how can you review it? Second, that you complain about the lack of firepower. Ok, so your rounds are limited...it's a .45, the most effective combat round out there, short of a 125 grain .357. If you hit what you're aiming at, 8 rounds is enough. If you're a fan of "spray and pray", then yeah, you need more rounds. Otherwise, another stellar nutnfancy review.
I bought this gun a couple of months after this video came out. I'm one happy camper. Not ONE malfunction, and I've had probably 700 or 800 rounds through her. I got my CCW March 2010 and I've only missed 3 days of carry. She's a heavy one, even for the light weight, but I sure as hell don't feel out gunned. I may never have to shoot it,...The bad guys would probably just run from the sight of a full size .45.
The 1911 was the sidearm America used to save the world from Nazi rule. Our elite military units still use it today.Anyone with brains knows that weapon represents freedom from the kind of tyranny Obama and his Marxist NWO goons are trying to force down our throats now using economic warfare, subversion, sabotage and PSYOPS.
@eddieR0ckz Non American, unarmed sheep are bent over subjects to their ruling elite.
In America,Firearms are liberties teeth.
Non Obama-Zombie Americans love freedom from oppressive government, protection from the tyranny of the majority and personal protection from sociopaths and scumbags. Thus our LOVE for guns.I'll say it myself.I LOVE firearms.Say it with me brother,"Firearms represent everything GOOD about America" Independence, self reliance, personal responsibility and liberty.
i have one of these operators and you will find it hard to beat!!....i know when the end of the world/shit hits the fan....my operator full of hollowpoints will be on my side.
just saying, Springfield makes a double stack 14+1 cap in the GI series so firepower in the 1911 frame isn't really an issue as much as the weight. but at the same time what other pistol can get consistent 1 1/2 or 2 inch groups at 25+ yards, even with average shooters? most every 1911 make i read up on can say at least that much. hard to say for most other pistols.
i want to get an 1911 but not sure which im considering this one a kimber or maybe even a para expet gi. I know obviously kimber is most expensive then springfeidl and para just didnt know which would be best bang for buck. I dont have the chance to shoot all before purchase so looking for opinions. I like the para cause of price but have heard the coating sucks. Feel free to give me your opinion only if you have shot the gun
Frames are made in Brazil - that's about it. Everything else assembled in USA. Imbrel crafts the frames. If you know anything about assault long arms - you know the name. I'd put their stuff up against anybody. They were the only manufacturer to gain license to manufacture FN/FAL.
Firepower? How many rounds do you plan on needing if you hit them dead center mass? "Tactical shooting with your buddies..." Enough said there. If you're shooting IFPA or USPSA, you'll be limited.
I really do like the reviews that you put together, but i wish you wouldn't do a review on a pistol unless you had fired it a bit. 2 cents bro. other than that, I just want to say on behalf of probably a good majority of the firearms market thanks for all the help.
great great video what type of mags comes with the gun and whould u describe the cleaning/field strip of the opperator i am very intressted in this fire arm as a first handgun semi-auto handgun for my self defence on my ranch (arizona border problems) and am new to field striping and cleaning process with 1911s. thank you
@invertkilla The 2 mags that come with the gun are made by Springfield (pretty low quality). I upgraded mine with 8 round mags (SA comes with 7 rounders) made by Wilson Combat. They are pricy, but outstanding (btw, Wilson makes 10 round mags too). I am told that the Mecgar mags are also great. The fieldstrip is a royal pain the first few times, but gets easier with practice. It will never be as easy as a Glock or XD, but it's not too bad.
@2142Unknown I agree with you about being made in Brazil. An expensive iconic American gun should be made in America. However, don't give up. Recently, I bought a new Stainless "Loaded" and it IS made in the USA.
dont go with hi-point, save a few more bucks and get teh Rock Island Armory or Para-ordinance if your trying to save some money. ive shot a couple of the hi-points and they suck ass. it wasnt just a bad gun once, as far as I can tell theyre all like that @2142Unknown
@vladdimor No. That's Captain Price's gun. Not Roach's. Not even Soap.
And before anyone goes all anti video games on me, or nails this poor fella to a board for making COD comments on a video about real guns, remember that an interest in firearms has to start somewhere so why not video games? 's where I got hooked years ago until I got old enough to get some real ones.
Ok not all springfield parts are made in brazil and the ones that are have been stamped if its out of the custom shot its all U.S. And as far as capacity let's talk about forthood he was shot 3 times in the torso to stop him with 9mm so devid you capacity by 3. 45 acp one shot to the torso and its over but there are high capacity 1911's look at para, and knight hawk
I you're looking to get a .45 auto, I don't recommend the Glock. Sure they get extra rounds in their magazines, but that comes at a price. The grip is way too fat -- I've got slightly bigger than average hands, and the grip was just too un-ergonomic in size. Throw on a Hogue grip and it's even worse. Personally I say try a 1911 first. There's a reason it's been around for a hundred years, and unless you're shooting competitively, you probably won't notice the five fewer rounds.
@Matteos627 -- You wrongly assumed that I don't know the etymology of the word. You won't change my mind and I won't change yours. But to say because I use the word firepower as it is currently defined (And I can copy and paste from a dozen different dictionaries but obviously you know more than what is printed and accepted as current vernacular) mine is dumb and yours is not is what is dumb.
I would go on to explain the evolution of definitions but I don't want to bore you with more facts.
I have had my mc operator for 2 years. I put a firedragon piston/guide rod in it. It's a fuckin tac-driver. Always on target. On a steel popper silouette, I got seven shots on steel before it dropped. Bad ass gun!!
yeah the 2 mags are great. I bought a Kimber Crimson carry II and I only got 1 7rd Mag and paid over 1200...............Still have no regrets and would do it again
I always felt faster on target with a commander length. The twitchyness (sight visuals) of the longer barrel has a tendency to slow one down when it comes to pressing the trigger. JMHO
the glock does not suck balls. Its a reliable gun that i would bet my life on. As can be said about a lot of handguns. They run....and run... what a gun should do.
the glock does not suck balls. Its a reliable gun that i would bet my life on. As can be said about a lot of handguns. They run....and run... what a gun should do.
The wound channel from a 50 BMG is bigger than a human body. Uh no. Try maybe the size of a large grapefruit. Depending on the round. But yes for the most part one hit one kill or a de-limbing. I wouldn't want to be hit by one that's for sure
I agree with some of the others -- 7 to 9 rounds is plenty for the average user. The big .45 rounds will make a difference in a home defense situation, since it has better stopping power than a smaller gun. Keep in mind that gang members have been shot up with 9mm's and checked out of the hospital the next day. I know -- a shot to the right spot makes a difference, but under stress you might not have that luxury. If you don't like reloading at the range, buy more clips and pre-load them.
I know that most of my encounters, aside from military, did not require 17 rounds. In most cases it took far less. Firepower is purely subjective. Sure it is nice to have many rounds, but my contention in civilian cases where we go to guns 8 to 10 rounds will be sufficient. One thing I will add is this; a pistol is a very poor fight stopper and in military missions you are going to be using a rifle first. The police officer I can see maybe needing 15-18 rounds to stop a fight if they practice.
Thanks for the reveiw. I have watched this reveiw a couple tims over the last year. I just bought one of these at a gunshow Saturday. I love it! It shoots so damn well!
Thanks for the review Nutnfancy. I just bought my first 1911, and I got a Springfield "rangemaster" but with trijicon sights. My first seven rounds ended up making ONE hole.
This is a brazilian handgun, it's produced in Brazil by IMBEL (indústria de material bélico do Brasil) and is only sold in the United States by Springfield Armory.
@fnordification Actually, the loaded operator is produced in Illinois...it uses no Brazillian parts, like all of Springfield's high end 1911's. So it is an American made gun.
@fnordification actually i thought the operator was made in the us in springfields custom shop?Atleast this is what i was told and that the rest of the "cheaper" 1911s from springfield were made in brazil
@jojo664769 Even Springfield's 1911 that aren't produced in Brazil, use many Brazilian parts. This however doesn't mean that they are low quality products, since IMBEL (brazilian manufacturer of firearms) produces the highest quality components.
@fnordification While many of them are made in Brazil, mine ( a Stainless "Loaded" model) was made in Geneseo, IL. If you want one made in the USA, you can find them.
@fnordification It's an american hand gun, America told Brazil how to make it. Since it's created by Americans and sold to Americans, it's American. Out sorcing is American. Don't get me wrong, I love South America. I've spent a lot of time south of the equator. The poverty in Brazil is truly heart breaking. It was almost as bad as the poverty in southern Asia. Your country through American eyes is respected. That being said, that gun is American.
@fnordification The slide and frame on the "operator" and higher quality 1911's by Springfield are forged in Brazil. That's it. The rest of the gun is made in Geneseo, IL. Springfield's lower priced 1911's are completely assembled in Brazil.
@fnordification As far as I know, this is one of Springfield's models that are made in the United States, or at least assembled here. Not that I have any issue with Brazil's manufacturing ability, I have quite a few Gis from Brazil and they're very well made. No country is better at building stuff than another, it's just a question of how well the factory is setup and run.
Im getting into to shooting and i have to say im becoming a fan of 1911 pattern pistols and am wondering if Para Ordinance makes a quality product? Im in the market for a good starting point that will get modified over time and want to make sure i dont get hosed. thanks
@RAFischer88 If you are to go with 1911 and your wanting an inexpensive model... I'd go with either Para GI Expert or Springfield GI .45... GI .45 is a pretty accurate representation of the WWII 1911's... but it has a post front sight so they are a bitch to replace... Para's 1911 has dovetail rear and front sights, so upgrading your sights in the future will be much easier. also the Para's factory sights are white dot sights verses the GI .45 has "blade" sights = more difficult learning curve

Our elite military units still use it today.Anyone with brains knows that weapon represents freedom from the kind of tyranny Obama and his Marxist NWO goons are trying to force down our throats now using economic warfare, subversion, sabotage and PSYOPS.

just saying, Springfield makes a double stack 14+1 cap in the GI series so firepower in the 1911 frame isn't really an issue as much as the weight. but at the same time what other pistol can get consistent 1 1/2 or 2 inch groups at 25+ yards, even with average shooters? most every 1911 make i read up on can say at least that much. hard to say for most other pistols.
nelsonbutcher1 10 months ago
i want to get an 1911 but not sure which im considering this one a kimber or maybe even a para expet gi. I know obviously kimber is most expensive then springfeidl and para just didnt know which would be best bang for buck. I dont have the chance to shoot all before purchase so looking for opinions. I like the para cause of price but have heard the coating sucks. Feel free to give me your opinion only if you have shot the gun

I'm going to give a review, but "I haven't fired it yet." WTF. You're going to talk to hear yourself talk - not a review.
cptexas1 11 months ago
Frames are made in Brazil - that's about it. Everything else assembled in USA. Imbrel crafts the frames. If you know anything about assault long arms - you know the name. I'd put their stuff up against anybody. They were the only manufacturer to gain license to manufacture FN/FAL.
Firepower? How many rounds do you plan on needing if you hit them dead center mass? "Tactical shooting with your buddies..." Enough said there. If you're shooting IFPA or USPSA, you'll be limited.
cptexas1 11 months ago
I really do like the reviews that you put together, but i wish you wouldn't do a review on a pistol unless you had fired it a bit. 2 cents bro. other than that, I just want to say on behalf of probably a good majority of the firearms market thanks for all the help.

great great video what type of mags comes with the gun and whould u describe the cleaning/field strip of the opperator i am very intressted in this fire arm as a first handgun semi-auto handgun for my self defence on my ranch (arizona border problems) and am new to field striping and cleaning process with 1911s. thank you
invertkilla 11 months ago
@invertkilla The 2 mags that come with the gun are made by Springfield (pretty low quality). I upgraded mine with 8 round mags (SA comes with 7 rounders) made by Wilson Combat. They are pricy, but outstanding (btw, Wilson makes 10 round mags too). I am told that the Mecgar mags are also great. The fieldstrip is a royal pain the first few times, but gets easier with practice. It will never be as easy as a Glock or XD, but it's not too bad.

@Matteos627 So do I, there is no difference.
EmjTwelv 1 year ago
@Matteos627 -- You wrongly assumed that I don't know the etymology of the word. You won't change my mind and I won't change yours. But to say because I use the word firepower as it is currently defined (And I can copy and paste from a dozen different dictionaries but obviously you know more than what is printed and accepted as current vernacular) mine is dumb and yours is not is what is dumb.
I would go on to explain the evolution of definitions but I don't want to bore you with more facts.

I always felt faster on target with a commander length. The twitchyness (sight visuals) of the longer barrel has a tendency to slow one down when it comes to pressing the trigger. JMHO

The wound channel from a 50 BMG is bigger than a human body. Uh no. Try maybe the size of a large grapefruit. Depending on the round. But yes for the most part one hit one kill or a de-limbing. I wouldn't want to be hit by one that's for sure
mikeyruhly 1 year ago

TheJohnKIQWA 1 year ago
This is a brazilian handgun, it's produced in Brazil by IMBEL (indústria de material bélico do Brasil) and is only sold in the United States by Springfield Armory.
fnordification 1 year ago 7
@fnordification Actually, the loaded operator is produced in Illinois...it uses no Brazillian parts, like all of Springfield's high end 1911's. So it is an American made gun.
Napes45105 1 year ago
@fnordification actually i thought the operator was made in the us in springfields custom shop?Atleast this is what i was told and that the rest of the "cheaper" 1911s from springfield were made in brazil
jojo664769 11 months ago
@jojo664769 Even Springfield's 1911 that aren't produced in Brazil, use many Brazilian parts. This however doesn't mean that they are low quality products, since IMBEL (brazilian manufacturer of firearms) produces the highest quality components.

@jojo664769 No, but the TRP's, and Trophy Match are i think

joeythekangaroo92 11 months ago
@fnordification While many of them are made in Brazil, mine ( a Stainless "Loaded" model) was made in Geneseo, IL. If you want one made in the USA, you can find them.
MattN47 11 months ago
@fnordification It's an american hand gun, America told Brazil how to make it. Since it's created by Americans and sold to Americans, it's American. Out sorcing is American. Don't get me wrong, I love South America. I've spent a lot of time south of the equator. The poverty in Brazil is truly heart breaking. It was almost as bad as the poverty in southern Asia. Your country through American eyes is respected. That being said, that gun is American.
darkcrysis 10 months ago
@fnordification The slide and frame on the "operator" and higher quality 1911's by Springfield are forged in Brazil. That's it. The rest of the gun is made in Geneseo, IL. Springfield's lower priced 1911's are completely assembled in Brazil.
shotgunsteve93 10 months ago
@fnordification As far as I know, this is one of Springfield's models that are made in the United States, or at least assembled here. Not that I have any issue with Brazil's manufacturing ability, I have quite a few Gis from Brazil and they're very well made. No country is better at building stuff than another, it's just a question of how well the factory is setup and run.
Nater245689 9 months ago 2

Im getting into to shooting and i have to say im becoming a fan of 1911 pattern pistols and am wondering if Para Ordinance makes a quality product? Im in the market for a good starting point that will get modified over time and want to make sure i dont get hosed. thanks
RAFischer88 1 year ago
@RAFischer88 If you are to go with 1911 and your wanting an inexpensive model... I'd go with either Para GI Expert or Springfield GI .45... GI .45 is a pretty accurate representation of the WWII 1911's... but it has a post front sight so they are a bitch to replace... Para's 1911 has dovetail rear and front sights, so upgrading your sights in the future will be much easier. also the Para's factory sights are white dot sights verses the GI .45 has "blade" sights = more difficult learning curve
