Im am 13 now but when i was twelve i had an illeostomy (i still have it) and i had an emergency surgery ehich caused me to get this and they put in a 16 mm tube wich is the biggest one because that is all they had all of the time and it hurt a lot thry couldnt get it in the first time or the second time either but they had to keep it for my emergency flight to the hospitol and its the 2nd most hurting thing that i have experienced in my life.

@jlh945 were u asking what was the purpose of this procedure?if yes,this procedure is to make sure ur gastric juice ok,ur gaster ok,taking out any poison u drank if u wanna suicide urself.there's a lot of function of this procedure.those were some function of it
that was a very good skill insertion of ngt.the 'drink water' and twisting 180' were very good.i always afraid of if i accidentally put ngt into the lung,opening the larynx and lead the patient to pneumonia.u put some skill here and help me out..tq.
I can honestly say that having an NG tube insertion was the worst medical procedure I ever went through, and I've had ALOT of medical procedures that really hurt. It was the worst having it inserted, just the most uncomfortable feeling I've ever had. I'm sure it helps to be very calm and it wouldn't be that bad, but I wasn't calm at all :-/. I agree, the person in this video is brave.
@rominamits why do you say "OLD" is there a "newer" way to check the aspiate PH? just curious as I'm in a program that says the same thing & if I'm not being Taught the "NEW" way I'm gonna be pissed!

We think every health professional who is going to perform this procedure should also have it performed ON them, so they know exactly what it is like. I'm due a MR enteroclysis to examine the Crohn's Disease in my small bowel. I've only to date had an endoscopy, but that was bad enough and I demanded to be properly sedated (with no memory of the test). The same goes for any combined nasal/throat intubation! I'm dreading it already.
The best procedure is to use a chest x'ray. But some facility will not order a chest x;ray especially if the patient is under pallitive care. using listening and testing the ph level of the gastric content is valid enough..

it should olso be an aseptic procedure. ther is a posibility of inserting the ng-t into the airway. if that happens and tip of tube is not sterile, you just gave you client incrased risk o pneumonia.
Not really, the nasal area is not steril in the first place. Even if you use steril technique, when the tube pass thru the nasal area, it will be contaminated.
Dude, the larynx is also not sterile - and if you manage to get as far as the bronchial bifurcation without realising you're in the wrong place, you shouldn't be doing an NGT!
@darkjudicator KEY TERM HERE:Demonstration!! we are LEARNING the proper placement!this is a skills test for many people in the hospital setting that must be performed befor you can acheive profecency!don't you want Profecent people to be able to plce the tube correctly!with out "PRACTICE" we can't learn it PROFECENTLY!(& yeah, I don't spell correctly!that's y normal programs have spell check so I'm aware of my short coming you don't have to point them out!)

This is unrealistic, in that usually the patient usually gags and panics and has trouble holding still. But it's a nice tutorial.

Nice video. Clear and concise. Although using a straw to sip helps facilitate the swallowing and keeps cup/hands out of the way. :-)
