  • It's the stats. Anybody could be super amazing and have a team that sucks. No one by them self can make a team go to the play offs. Batting average is extremely important. You get allot of rbi's if you have a good team. It's generally not an important stat.

  • The guy with the lisp is correct, The award is to be given to the best player in the national or american league and no one in their right mind could say that howard was the better player, put a pujols in the phill's lineup last year and they have no reason to need a late season push the dance into the playoffs. Howard is strictly a power hitter. Pujols is the all around better player and the best player in prof. Baseball.

  • Batting Average: Pujols .357 - Howard .251

    Strikeouts: Pujols 54 - Howard 199

    OPS: Pujols 1.115, Howard .882

Pujols had a higher batting average than Howard's on-base percentage, and Howard struck out 4 times as much as Pujols. The only stat where he significantly beats Pujols is RBI's, and that just says that he was on a better team.

  • who got the mvp

  • Ryan Howard's a homo

  • Here's how the voting went oh Ryan Howard has broke his record of strikeouts and pujols has a .357 average, oh lets give it to Pujols, who I think deserves the award but not over Howard, Howard leads league in homers, RBI's and he took his team to the playoffs, but just because of his strikeouts he lost the MVP. I just don't see how you can put pujols over Howard, in 08.

  • i love how the dude on the right is like "howard has had the most opportunities to drive in runs." HE TOOK ADVANTAGE!!! HE LED THE LEAGUE IN RBIs!!!! SERIOUSLY LISPY GET UR FACTS TOGETHER

  • Anyone that strikes out 1/3 of his at bats doesn't deserve MVP... but it doesn't matter because he didn't win anyway.

  • hahaah guy on the right has a nasty lisp, sounds like a fagget and he's wrong

  • champs baby champs hahahahahahahahahhahahaha fuck you mets

  • The fact of the matter is that Ryan Howard carried the Phillies on his back in September. His slugging percentage was over .800, he had 11 home runs, was batting over .350 and finished the year with 48 home runs and 147 RBIs. There's no one in the league that has put up Howards numbers in the past 3 seasons. He's not called Mr.September for nothing...and, although Puljos was the main reason the Cardinals stayed in contention for a long time, there's no denying Howard's production...MVP baby!

  • Ryan Howard's striking out is blown way out of proportion. Howard hits the ball so hard that any groundout with a runner on is a perfect double play ball, and pretty much anything he hits in the outfield is a home run. That's why he has the most RBI's. Productive outs only occur with runner on third less than 2 out. Besides that, a strikeout is just like any other out, and sometimes better considering the way he hits the baseball. Babe Ruth held the old strikeout record, and he's the best ever.

  • howard hands down best hitter of 2008, especially winning the world series he's in there.

  • heres stats pick your mvp based off of these..

    Player 1: 161 games .251 avg, .339 obs, 48hr, 146 rbi, 105 runs, 199 k's, 610 ab. Strikes out 32.6% of the time

    Player 2: 148games .357 avg, .425 obs, 37 hr, 116 rbi, 100 runs, 54 k's, 524 ab. Strikes out 10.3% of the time

  • player 1 look at those rbis

  • player 1's team won the world series and he is the main reason they got there in semptember...add that in your calculations

  • gee why did that not matter in 2006 but its a different story 2 years later i guess

i mean i might be fucking crazy..and as far as rbis howard had 86 more chances to hit the ball than pujols..dont be fucking blinded by the fact hes on your favorite team

  • chances, strikeouts, i dont see how that decreases his value, he single handedly carried the phillies into the playoffs in september....i mean, someone that can do that has could be considered very 'valueable' to his team....i mean shit he had like a slugging % of 800 in sept

  • he hit 196 with nobody on base, maybe if had had an april as good as his sept philly would have won the division by 8 or 9 games....more of a liability if you ask me...would you trade howard for pujols? of course you would

  • no i wouldnt smart ass, i wouldnt take apart a championship team...but lets go back to when howard won mvp, and i quote

'i dont think someone that team didnt make the playoffs, deserves to win mvp' - albert pujols

couldnt agree more, game, set, match

  • actually its game set match pujols because he won the mvp...

800 slg in one month is impressive, took bad he ended up with a 543 for the year combined with a 339 on base% which makes for a combined OPS of less than 900, thats a hacker in a small ballpark, your team is questioning paying the guy because you could stick adam dunn in his spot and hed do the same thing...fyi pujols slg is 653 for the year with a obp of 462 for an ops of over 1.1, those are mvp numbers....again game set match.haha

  • once again pujols won for a reason and even with howard winning the world series he still loss the mvp because the numbers are not even close stupid

and howard is a bum on defence and pujols is top notch

  • what numbers, hrs and rbis? i dont think anyone hit more than howard...their is a direct correlation between ryan howards numbers and the phillies winning game

now you little scumbags can knock him all you want, fact is he was rookie of the year, mvp, and now a world series champion...i think he won a home run derby too...and this is just in 5 seasons of pro ball

  • u r so stupid

OFFICIAL at bats PUjoLS 524 HOward 610 average PUJOLS 357 Howard 251

    Doubles PUjols 44 howard 26

STRIKOUTS Pujols 54 HOWard 199 HE SET THE ALL-TIME strike out record fuckin idiot and batted 251 ya hes the MVP

    PUJOLS SLUGGING 653 HOWARD 543

HE WASNT EVEN CLOSE AS A SLUGGER WHICH IS WAT HOWARD IS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD AT

    PUJOLS OPS 1.114 HOWARD 881

OPS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MAJOR TOTAL TEST ON OFFENCE

  • not to mention PuJOLS IS GOLD GLOVE QUALITY AND HOWARD IS A BUM ON DEFENCE

RBI'S IS A TEAM STAT CUZ HE HAD MORE PEOPLE ON BASE DUMMY WHEN U LOSE IN EVERY OTHER CATEGORY BY ABOUT A 100 POINTS AT LEAST ITS EZ TO UNDERSTAND THAT BUT UR SO BIAS LIKE A 5 YEAR OLD LIL CHILD GROW UP OR STOP COMMENTING LIKE A FAG

  • this shouldnt even be a discussion, a good discussion is all the people who should have been higher on the list than howard, braun, hanley ramirez etc.

  • i dont see how the team helps ryan howard hit the runs in, yea they are on base but he is the one hitting in the clutch situation when the team needs it

stats stats stats, the catagory is most valuable player, all the number you rattled off didnt help the cards to win shit, you take away ryan howards numbers from the phils, do they win the world series, probably not...so again, ryan howard is the most valueable player to his team

  • REALLY RETARD CUZZ GUESS WHAT

THE PANEL OF EXPERTS AND PAST GREAT PLAYERS VOTED FOR ALBERT PUJOLS FOR MVP SO UR WRONG and im RIGHT

  • haha total cop out, looks like youve given up, you lose

  • show me how i lose when pujols won after the panel of past players and experts picked voted for him and not howard and pujols won howard lossssss u lose everyone knows it

  • cause it's a cop out, 'im right because a bunch of overpaid, out of touch WRITERS say so'

if that's all you got, you lose

  • since your a nieve little fuck who wont change his mind set i will go away from just "numbers" to tell you pujols cridentials.

Where were the cardinals expected to finish in their divison and compare that with the expectations set for the philies.

the philies were expected to make a palyoff appearance..maybe not win the division(they did) but the cardinals werent even supposed to contend for a wildcard

now would the cardinals year have been the same without pujols? NO

  • ^^ oh word, so a player who had his team 'contending' for the wild card deserves to be MVP over someone that pulls his team out from the brink of elimination and takes them to the playoffs, where they ultimately won...

    fucking idiot

  • considering they dont vote for the mvp after the playoffs i think your the idiot here.

You are so defensive its unbelievable, i am in no way shape or form telling you that howard isnt mvp material. All i am trying to point out to you is that pujols carried a team that wasnt supposed to compete and had them in contention for most of the season, howard took a team that was expected to make the playoffs(either wild card or division champs) where they were expected to go. take both off their teams

  • and see where the teams would be..the philies most likly in contention because they have rollins, utley, and the hawiian dude i cant remember his name at the moment. the cardinals wouldnt have been above .500 without pujols. the true meaning of mvp isnt he hits a bunch of homeruns, its value what they did for their team and as explained above pujols wins that category, again howard helped get his team a championship but the phillies were capable of a playoff berth with out him, maybe not a title

  • how could howard win it over pujols. terrible batting average, terrible. And Howard benefits from having 2 other mvp calibury players. Pujols is a better fielder, and he doesnt hurt his team by striking out. Striking out a lot is overlooked. It hurts ur team by not executing moving runners over and helping the following situational batters

  • how could pujols win it over howard. howard led the major league, not the national league, the whole major league in home runs and rbi's.

and last time i checked MVP stands for most valuable player, not guy with good numbers whose team did shit. he was key down the stretch which made him the most valuable player they had. which is what the award is in the first place. and who cares how much he strikes out if he hits almost 50 homers and gets 150 rbis every year? someone who doesnt know much.

  • you are either a moron or a homer, probably both....A child knows that pujols is better every year, than howard. Let me ask you...who would you rather have on your team? Exactly...

  • i would honestly rather howard. remember how everyone didnt like mike schmidt cuz he struck out a lot? well he's a hall of famer now. and utley strikes out 100+ times a year and no one cares about that because his numbers are great. Howard is hands down the best run producer/home run hitter in the game. the numbers dont lie, o and by the way, ill say it again, how can u be valuable to a team that came in 4th in the division? u cant because theyre not playing for anything. i rest my case.

  • the cardinals were leading in the WC with about 3 weeks left in the season because of pujols, that why. Citizens bank is small, busch is not, even cubs fans know pujols is better and they hate him, i cant even believe i am legitimizing this conversation....

  • the man produces more runs than anyone else in the major league, since runs are how you win they are very valueable, and he drove in the most, so...how is he not the most valueable player?

  • because moron, people who get on base ahead of him have nothing to do with his production....speaking about producing on his own, did you know he hit 196 with no one on base? 196!!!!! go home

  • omg he set a record for RBIs in september, he single handedly won us the division title in september, he also had the best numbers in the majors apart from batting average but big men dont need to hit .300 to do their job, their job is to hit homers and drive in runs, and howard is clearly the best at that and ur just blind to that. if u really know about baseball u gotta look at the big picture, if he is doing his job to help the team, and howard did that better than pujols.

    go home.

  • saying howard didnt hit 300 is worse than saying pujols didnt need to hit 400...over a 100 point difference in avg? hes not even in the top two most valuable on your team 1)utely 2)lidge 3)howard

  • utley wasnt MVP for our team at all. he was awful the whole second half. we now know that was because of a hip injury no one knew about. lidge ill agree with but howard is almost the sole reason we won the division. he was the best player in the league in september, and over the course of the season as well.

  • seriously, we are talking about ryan howard, not the people that bat ahead or behind him...he produces, slugging percertage in the 800s in september, WHEN IT FUCKING COUNTED, what did your boy do in september and october, besides watch the phillies win the world series?

  • Guy on the right is an idiot. Ryan Howard all day. No one is baseball even came close the the rbi and homeruns Howard put up and a 250 average is shitty but the other stats mke up for it. What he did in september is unheard of and cant be overlooked for a 350 or something batting average of Pujos

  • he finished the season with a 151 avg not 149 =)

the guy on the right is probly a cardnals fan or somthing pujos might be getting on base but hes not scroing as much runs rbis and homeruns as ryan by getting on base but man pujos is insane but i think it should go to ryan i mean he did bring the phillies to the playoffs!

  • home boy on the right is a donkey Howard should win it hands down fuck Pujols .

  • thank god dickless apes like you dont vote for MVP, its a shame you can vote for president...

  • What's amazing about Howard's season is just how good he's been since May 9. He's hit to the tune of .273/.352/.600 for an OPS of .952. A .952 OPS would place him 9th in the majors and 5th in the NL this year.

His counting stats have been even more impressive. Since May 10, he's played 114 games. In those games, he has 39 home runs, 119 RBI, and 77 runs scored. Lastly he is the current MLB ironman at 268 games, so he really has been there for his team literally and figuritivly.

  • HOWARD IS CLUTCH OBVIOUSLY THIS GUY HAS NOT WATCHED HOWRD HIS LAST 20 games infact all september.

  • this guy is retard RYAN HOWARD IS THE BEST HITTER plain and simple. idc lets go phillies just win it all!!!!!!! OBAMA 08

  • Howard 2008 MVP, HANDS DOWN!!!

  • to the guy on the right, go get a life. when was the last time that albert Pujols did something amazing that even made a headline?

like 2000. hes an ugly has been. Howard is old but at least he still makes an impression on the league. all your stupid excuses saying that rbi is a team stat, and that howard has just had more opertunities to bat in runs, the phillies have the lowest aveage that i have seen compared to most of their opponents and yyet howard still manages to come up with 150 rbi's

  • You're a idiot. Pujols is the man year after year. Howards a side sho attraction at best, homerun or strike out. Shitty average, bad fielder. Yeah he has Pujols in the hrs and rbis. If that was the criteria for MVP, straight power numbers then they should be able to use steroids. And to say Pujols hasn't done anything you don't know baseball, period.

  • hes feilding is really over looked hes got a great glove actually ive seen him make some amazing plays great at pop flys into foul territorey too

the real only problem is hes throwing witch got way better by the end of the season

and howard did bring the phillies to the playoffs too

  • no doubt Howard should get it. Yeah he's been on a hot streak the past month, but he's the reason why they caught up and past out the Mets. Plus his batting average has gone from .140 to .246 and the rest of his stats speak for themselves.

  • Ryan Howard is going to win to no doubt about it hes on pace to hit 50 homers and 150 rbi so howard MVP

  • if phils get divsion: mvp=howard

    mets win division: mvp=delgado

  • What's amazing about Howard's season is just how good he's been since May 9. He's hit to the tune of .273/.352/.600 for an OPS of .952. A .952 OPS would place him 9th in the majors and 5th in the NL this year. His counting stats have been even more impressive. Since May 10, he's played 114 games. • dude j8ust stfu damn nerd howard just rules aiigt u peace of trash
