Tonight was the first time I heard of or seen Diana Dors and I don't understand why. She is drop-dead gorgeous. Stunning. I'm no movie critic, but I just watched The Unholy Wife (1957)and was drawn to this woman. I've seen worse movies but I thought her acting (at least in this film) was on par with other top actresses of her time. Next time I hear people discussing Monroe, Mansfield, and others, I will bring up Diana Dors. 54 years later she made a new fan.
It's worth mentioning that the arrangements were written and the band conducted by the excellent and well-known (at the time) Wally Stott. If you've never heard of him, it's because he underwent a sex change, went to the USA and carved out an equally successful career as Angela Morley, dying earlier this year (2009). A great talent. Probaly his most successful composition was 'Cat from Coos Bay, written in 1954.
She had a very passable voice which deserved more of an airing. Many of songs on this LP are virtually unknown. IMHO, she made one substantial film, Yield to the NIght. The film begins and ends in Dors' prison cell, where she awaits execution. The film is a thinly disguised version of the true-life case of Ruth Ellis, the last woman ever executed in Britain. A raw and deadly serious film, she was no glamour-puss for once.
I got her album 'Swinging Dors' if you're a fan it's well worth getting. She has a very pleasing voice, very recognisable as Diana Dors. Some singers don't sound at all like their speaking voice but Diana does.
Thanks for uploading the first vid ive seen on the british beauty diana doors. whe later turned into a good charachter actress, chech hammer house of horror. her best performance was in yeild to the night
I meet Diana once a lovely lady, her singing is good always cheers me up. much missed you are Diana by many people. I think as an actress you were outstanding in character roles, another Bette Davis, pity your looks got in the way.
I love "Come By Sunday" and "Rollercoaster Blues" and I have an original mono pressing of this album. I never get tired of seeing and hearing about Diana! Really good video montage!
