Thank you so much for this. I read Towleroad every day, but long ago stopped reading the comments because of the venomous bitchiness of the people who write them. They seem to feel a need to drag down any gay who accomplishes anything down to their (very) low level.
What you didn't mention is the music. I'm talking about singers or rappers performing openly LGBT lyrics. There are plenty of them out there, doing great work. But do they get covered? Almost never. Instead, we get generic dance music and neutered electronic beeps. Sure, that's great for a music site, but not an LGBT news source.
@rakshan , the whole LGBT community? I think he's been abandoned by the establishment, but I think average LGBT people support him. Who couldn't love someone who represents free speech (always an LGBT issue) and exposed the senseless helicopter murders of journalists? Even if he did this out of depression, the man is a major hero.
@rg0057 yea, the whole LGBT community. I live near the Castro, and not a single time in all these months have I seen anything, anything supporting Bradley. The average LGBT person is just too naive and self-obsessed to really understand what is going on. On LGBT blogs, ppl have called him a traitor etc. Even Rachel Maddow won't touch his case. It is sad, because we are meant to be family. The only kudos I would give are to FDL's David House, Glenn Greenwald, Code Pink and The Save Bradley Org.
Well said, my friend. I firmly believe that any comments section or message board is FULL of hardcore evidence that the horseman of the apocalypse are galloping our way post haste. It's not even just gay sites. Try going to IMDB Message Boards and you will see that there are people GLEEFULLY giving away the endings of movies in their post titles. WHY would u do that? And some of the vile, hateful things that people say right here on youtube make me weep for humanity.
That was excellent, and I find it applies particularly to Queerty. I used to enjoy the occasional snark, but lately they seem to really have cranked it up to eleven, and beyond. No one is ever good enough, or doing the right enough thing, to be above their trashing.
You are my fricken hero! This is exactly why I stoped reading queerty months ago. I do still pay attention to towleroad but regardless, your rant here is pretty much everything I would love to have vented myself about what I feel is probably the greatest weakness of the lgbt community. I'm definitely watching your videos from now on. I can't really begin to describe how awesome this was to watch. hahaha
You said it very well sir. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I always thought of it as when ever you point a finger at someone gay in the media and diminish their accomplishments you have 3 fingers pointed at the person setting our community back a step. Very well said.

I agree mostly.

Talk to me when you support Bradley Manning, the guy who has been shunned by the whole LGBT community. Its a damn shame.
