  • 3:19 Tod's friends says "Next week were going to do it" Thats were he got it from. And by the willingness of his friend I guess he was the bottom.

  • "AIDS is the best thing to come along since The Black Plauge." wow.

  • I can't believe cartoons were allowed to talk about unprotected sex and sharing needles?

  • Oh my gosh, thank you.I haven't seen this since I was 6.Awesome.They should put this show back on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is soo much better than all the other stuff they have on tv.

  • Verminus and his horde were the trolls of their era.

  • Verminus has too much free time.

  • Think of how much more disturbing this would be if Skumm had gotten a sample of Todd's blood before capturing the Planeteers. Damn, they are lucky this guy is incompetent.

  • Wait...so how'd Neil Patrick Harris get AIDS again?

  • Verminus has to be the most evil villian of all time i can't remember anyone else trying to spread aids

  • Neil Patrick Harris is Todd Andrews!!!!!

  • "There's the evil villain! One of us can split the ground open and one of us can shoot fire, but let's just chase after him on foot!"

  • So, the rat wanted to spread AIDS, so to do this, he tried to get them to hang the only guy with it... Does that make any sense?

  • @robertsfunny1995 Verminus actually represented the dangers of sanitation and crime, so his real goal was promote ignorance and violence against those with HIV and other diseases.

  • @branballistick But he said he wanted AIDS to get spread.

  • next week bud , WE'RE GONNA DO IT !

  • lol scum is chilling in the middle of the street. he doesn't give two fucks

  • I like how the mother ignore's the possible reasons why he could get HIV "Unprotected Sex" "Needles used for drugs" and todds like WHO CARES HOW I GOT IT!? IT STINKS!! trying to distract his mom from finding out he used drugs. or had sex lol

  • @ScaredNub The way he was jumping all over that blonde, and the fact he's the star b-ball player. I'd say it was a combo of sharing needles to juice up and being a closet homo.

  • This is fantastic - it's actually intelligent, thoughtful, and not insulting our youth by basically treating them like mindless zombies. Yes, CN and Nick, I'm talking to you.

  • 3:59 That has to be the most evil thing ever said.

  • Todd is voiced by Neil Patrick Harris and his mum by Elizabeth Taylor :)

  • @6:17 Hey mom, which team do you think Todd will play for??

Mom; Hmm, same team as Magic's??

  • wow todd's mother is voiced the great Elizabeth Taylor

  • He actually said "sex" out loud? I mean, we've had subtle references, such as with Dexter's dad jerking off, and that time when Mandark disguised himself as Dexter's mom and he asked Mandark if he was "coming to bed..." But to actually say "sex" out loud? What kid is going to hear that and not try to ask "mommy, what's sex?" unless you were at a really young age and didn't exactly understand words and they sort of just jumbled together to us, which is way little kids talk so weird.

  • @robertsfunny1995 I know you posted this a month ago but times were different back then

  • @Rpoman2009 I know that, but they actually said the word "sex" out loud. How did they get away with that? I don't remember any time when they said that out loud.

  • @robertsfunny1995 That new Titanus show or whatever had a girl dancing around like a hooker, showing little more than her butt shaking all over the place. They didn't say sex aloud, but they implied it. At least this is saying have safe sex. xD

  • @Chiisaisan What's Titanus?

  • @robertsfunny1995 Search 'Sym-BionicTitan 1-10 Lessons in Love'

  • ever realized that everytime something happens to wheeler linka is the first one who say's his name

She is sooo in love with him

  • @srcjmp3721nl Possibly, but in the episode "Mind Pollution," when Linka was under the effects of bliss, Wheeler seemed to be the most focused on her, so he probably has a crush on her.

  • @robertsfunny1995 i knew that part but i was just saying that linka dosen't usualy show too much affection for wheeler untill something happens to him.

  • I hope no one has anyrhing ignorant to say about this episode.

  • @lmosim02 One of the things I like about "Captain Planet and the Planeteers" is how unique some of its episodes can be. By "unique", I mean having some of their episodes' focus on topics OTHER than pollution, endangered animal species, etc. From what I've researched, "A Formula For Hate" is probably the most unique episode of them all, what with it teaching children about AIDS and the HIV virus. Whether or not this episode was created in a sex-obsessed era is anybody's guess.

  • @lmosim02 Wish *not* granted (see regenjo's remark below). :(

  • If somebody told you that you have a fatal disease, would your initial reaction be "IT STINKS!"?

  • @WheresPoochie I know right? They can say "unprotected sex" but you can't say "It sucks?" I mean, that's the least they could have done for a situation like that most people would be like "It blows ass‼"

  • 3:47

I SWEAR he says "IT'S DICKS!"

  • Neil Patrick Harris voiced Todd, wow I never knew that till now.

  • Say what u want about this show but it talked about subjects that most teen show won't even talk about today let alone cartoons

  • Todd tucks his T-shirt into his pants. Ewwww.

  • Those planeteers are scumbags why couldn't they let him do his plan? 8'(

  • COACH! I've got AIDs!

  • @grizzlychris2 "Wrong! You're HIV-positive! There's a big difference!"

  • cracked anyone?

  • @Bankailchigo12345 They probably were allowed to do that b/c the doctor used it educationally; this was also an educational program. I'm not saying that b/c I like it, I'm saying that b/c of the theme. The reason they probably allowed this episode to get aired b/c not many people understood HIV-AIDS. By the way, I was suprised @ first also. That would be my guess nevertheless.

  • should be replayed captin planet was awsome !!!

  • This is the last episode of captian planet

  • They need more shows like this... If it wasn't for Captain Planet and "the very special episode" I would have been so ignorant now. GOOOO planet!

  • how are they not sick after swimming in sewage water

  • Wait so none of these kids are freaked out by a rat-man living in the janitor's closet?

  • @Prankcake Because...they assumed he was the janitor?

  • When did they go from saying "Soviet Union" to "Eastern Europe"?

  • @Calciummetal In 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed...

  • Does anyone know of an episode where Wheeler is seen with a black-skinned girl?

  • And I can also guaranty you that these days, no kids cartoon show would never be made in the US with such references either.

  • Oh my they said the S-word "sex" (in the scene at the doctors office when he's getting his checkup and the doctor's explaining how you can get HIV). I thought any references to sex are bad for kids show, but the actual word "sex" is UNTHINKABLE to use in kids shows, such as this cartoons. I can guaranty you if if this was an anime coming from Japan and Fox Kids board of censors was going through this, they'd either remove that reference and butcher the plot, or would just never run this episode.

  • One of my favorite episodes of the series. All the more memorable considering that Elizabeth Taylor, who recently passed away, plays the voice of Todd's mother.

By the way, Todd is played by Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie!), Todd's girlfriend is played by Danica McKellar (from "The Wonder Years"!) and the coach is Dorian Harewood (he played Jesse Owens in a miniseries!). Great show. Great cast.

  • Linka's from Eastern Europe now, lmao

I wonder if any kids noticed that.

  • @UnoriginallyInclined Of course, they couldn't decide the country of Linka from all the SU ones

  • @UnoriginallyInclined I noticed because I lived there (in Eastern Europe) at the time. Cartoon Network Europe aired the first season a year later than the US channel did. I laughed because by 1991, the Soviet Union didn't even exist anymore! It was funny, especially since CNN (also owned by Turner Broadcasting) covered the fall of the Soviet Union when it actually happened.

  • As a nursing student, i see this episode as a landmark. Here in Brazil, Captain was a huge sucess and still on air. Is strange, but in this time we living, the speech of Captain is very powerful and resonates in ours chain of comands. Lets save the planet. The power is yours...

One of my project as a informal writter is to produce an episode of Captain Planet e Carmen Sandiego, the two cartoons that teachs subjects in a unusual way...

  • RIP Elizabeth Taylor.

  • This episode is pretty sweet.

    And Ma-Ti is still worthless.

  • THIS WAS A GOOD POSITIVE SHOW ......THE 90'S BLESSED US WITH SOME GOOD SHOWS ........KIDS THESE DAYS ARE LOST ........ALL YOU SEE ON T.V. IS BULL SHIT

  • wow there talking about aids in a childrens show

  • as amazing as this episode was for it's educational purposes, it's also dating itself. we know so much more about the AIDS virus and HIV now than we did in the 80's.

  • @CartoonCritter1985 agree.

  • HAHAHAHA TODD ANDREWS WAS PLAYED BY NEIL PATRICK HARIS! XD

AND HAHAHAHA I NEVER KNEW GAIA WAS PLAYED BY WOOPI GOLDBURG

  • You know the one thing I found to be a crock in this episode is how Rat-Boy figures outing one kid with HIV somehow is the first step for world domination. At least if the writers could get away with it, I think Dr. Blight would have the better shot at world domination through at least using nuclear weapons.

  • Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This condition progressively reduces the effectiveness of the immune system and leaves individuals susceptible to opportunistic infections and tumors.

  • HIV is transmitted through direct contact of a mucous membrane or the bloodstream with a bodily fluid containing HIV, such as blood, semen, vaginal fluid, preseminal fluid, and breast milk. This transmission can involve anal, vaginal or oral sex, blood transfusion, contaminated hypodermic needles, exchange between mother and baby during pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding or other exposure to one of the above bodily fluids.

  • AIDS is now a pandemic. In 2007, UNAIDS estimated: 33.2 million people worldwide had AIDS that year; AIDS killed an 2.1 million people in the course of that year, including 330,000 children, and 76% of those deaths occurred in sub-Saharan Africa. According to UNAIDS 2009 report, worldwide some 60 million people have been infected, with some 25 million deaths, and 14 million orphaned children in southern Africa alone since the epidemic began.

  • Genetic research indicates that HIV originated in west-central Africa during the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. AIDS was first recognized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1981 and its cause, HIV, identified in the early 1980s.

  • Although treatments for AIDS and HIV can slow the course of the disease, there is no known cure or vaccine. Antiretroviral treatment reduces both the mortality and the morbidity of HIV infection, but these drugs are expensive and routine access to antiretroviral medication is not available in all countries.

  • Due to the difficulty in treating HIV infection, preventing infection is a key aim in controlling the AIDS pandemic, with health organizations promoting safe sex and needle-exchange programmes in attempts to slow the spread of the virus.

  • never heard a children's cartoon mention HIV or AIDS or sex before.

  • Todd is voiced by NPH

  • this episode is on Wikipendia, cool

  • Speaking of killer diseases isn't water from the sewage system full of them?

  • @philipbabb yeah drowning in poopy water..what a horrible way to die0.0. i love how cartoons from the 80s and mid 90s had some edge to them and actually taught kids lessons. if you watch cartoon network and nickolodeon now all you'll see is stupidity.

  • Wow, I think it is good that the subjects of HIV & AIDS was brought up in a cartoon of this era to help educate kids.

  • @CartoonCritter1985 Its a good idea, yet the african version of sesame street almost got shut down cause of a character being HIV possitive

  • @CartoonCritter1985 Yes, back then people weren't educated on HIV & AIDS. Unlike other viruses, it is not contagious. I learned about in school

  • @davinp HIV is contagious but you need to come into contact with a bodily fluid like blood.AIDS is not contagious as it is a worse case of HIV.

  • @OMGyouAREaTWAT Really. Thanks for letting me. This shows how mis-understood the disease is or was
