How many horsepower and torque did the LA-5 radial engine produce and was it supercharged?Radial engines can produce a lot power quickly to meet instant and demanding loads and they are reliable and abuse resistant,I've read about the LA-5 and other planes as well. There's are plans to build an LA-5 scale flying model it's quite nice if you like that and have the skill level to pursue it.Also expensive.Build it right from what I've read the LA-5 was.I knew others than Sukoi and MIG existed.
That beautiful 14-cylinders radial Швецов Аш-82ФН, which powered Ла-5ФН, Wiki says it was rated 1230 kW at 2400 RPM (takeoff). If it's true that Power = Torque x angular speed, then its torque was 4894 Nm. Wiki says it had two TK-3 turbochargers (critical altitude 2000m, manifold pressure limit 1.55 atm). I don't know if it's true, generally aviation engines were gear-driven supercharged (Spitfire Bf-109 P-51 Yaks), but in that time many were turbocharged (P-38 P-47 B-17)
when i was a kid i had memorized almost every WWII airplane in the US, British, and German air foce, and many Japanese, even some Italian....... but I had never heard of a single Soviet Fighter. The cold war was a strange thing.
Yeah, talk about brainwashing, democracy and open society. Yak-3/9 and La-5/7 destroyed the Luftwaffe and people in the West didn't even know about that. At least when I was growing up [in the former Soviet Union] I was fully aware of what Mustangs and Spitfires were.
strange how LA 5 looks very similar to FW 190..MAYBE ANOTHER COPY - PASTE USUAL RUSSIAN ACTION..LOL..

@GRATZIANI2002 No. La-5 was an successor of Polykarpov's I-185 and a grandson of I-16. So, maybe a Fw190 is an copy-paste of soviet fighter? Lol
