.... the police has had a system for quite a while now even when I was young to find out where people live incase someone specially a child has to call and doesn't the address...Why the fuck could the opporator just say "ok sweetie I'm going to try to locate you and send the police" .... like they always do when the caller can't say where they are at?

"i know the address now (dispatcher interrupts and asks again "how old is your sister?"). That right there was ignorant too. Let the girl give the address. A dispatcher should not just ramble off robotic scripts to everyone that calls in. Each situation can be different. Sometimes have to think on toes so-to-speak.
The operator obviously just misheard the girl when she said her dad wasn't breathing. Think about it, it's not like she had subtitles to read like we do in this video. If you close your eyes and listen to that line it's hard to make out what the girl is saying. Give the operator a break.

I really think that the operator was trying to sort out the situation and figure out if the kid was overreacting to something or was a legit call. Im not saying to operator was professional or did it the way I would, but I dont see what she would have done wrong here.

One: Cell phones DO NOT give us addresses. A good majority of the time they don't tell us EXACTLY where you are, they give us a cell tower that the call is bouncing off of.
Two: Kids don't always tell the truth.
Three: This kid obviously doesn't know her own address or where she lives.

They immediately know where the call comes from, cell or house phone. She lazy dispatcher probably thought a kid randomly dialed 911 and they didn't want to send an ambulance for a false alarm. Due to that lazy assumption, the mother died. Nice going, dispatcher. I hope when you're on the floor dying, the person answering your 911 call ignores you!!
i KNOW that they can trace where you are via phone.. it was done for me and saved my life. Maybe the girl was called on a landline and they can only trace cellphones... but I HIGHLY doubt that.
@MizTickle If was land line it should be easily traced from any 911 service. Caller ID as well unless they have that blocked starting at the house or they dial pound something before the call, which is highly doubtful. I believe most of them if not all have advanced enough tracing to know where a land line is made from.
1- You guys do realize there is a difference to actually hearing the call, and hearing it with subtitles clearly in front of you (as we are doing), written by someone who has relistened to, and if necessary, amplified the sound?
2- You also realize you are just hearing snippets, which were edited by the news company, and not the whole call. It is a bitch how context actually works.
3- 911 can't just send someone to your house because the "trace" the call. This is a common misconception.

I thought the dispatcher was a little short with the kid and should have been more compassionate. Oh and asking to talk to the dead dad was awful. However, as for tracking, does everyone know for a fact that the child was using a landline? Although cellphones have a GPS locator that can be used for location, cellphones usually can't be tracked the same way as a landline. It could very well be that the dispachter really did not know the address.
I was also hung up on 2 times by the Fresno Police Dept. A black man had my boyfriend at gun point and was stealing things in my bedroom while I kept calling 911. I kept begging the operator to send the police before the gunned robber shot us. Finally after the 3rd call, I convinced her to send the police to save us from getting shot to death. Cops came, saved our lives, then the cop told us to, "Get out of dodge." When is Jesus gonna show cops they can't get away with their nonsense !!!!!!!!!!

Listen, if you're not a 9-1-1 operator, stop pretending you know what's going on. Yes, this dispatcher is incompetent and should get fired. However, not all places have an E911 service and so the location won't always show up. On top of that the location that may show up can be wrong so it has to be verified.

@pljtgh No they can only figure it out quickly if it is a landline, SOME (not most) 911 areas have technology to trace cell phone calls, but it takes a few minutes. The rest can only narrow the location down to within a few blocks.

i've accidently called 911, and hung up within 2 seconds of noticing. DIDN'T stop the cops, fire truck and ambulance from showing up to my house 20 minutes later anyways.....so why on earth does this dispatcher need the address....the address is nice to double check what they already have on file, but it shouldn't prevent anything.

They immediately know where the call comes from, cell or house phone. She lazy dispatcher probably thought a kid randomly dialed 911 and they didn't want to send an ambulance for a false alarm. Due to that lazy assumption, the mother died. Nice going, dispatcher. I hope when you're on the floor dying, the person answering your 911 call ignores you!!

i KNOW that they can trace where you are via phone.. it was done for me and saved my life. Maybe the girl was called on a landline and they can only trace cellphones... but I HIGHLY doubt that.

Caller ID as well unless they have that blocked starting at the house or they dial pound something before the call, which is highly doubtful. I believe most of them if not all have advanced enough tracing to know where a land line is made from.

1- You guys do realize there is a difference to actually hearing the call, and hearing it with subtitles clearly in front of you (as we are doing), written by someone who has relistened to, and if necessary, amplified the sound?
2- You also realize you are just hearing snippets, which were edited by the news company, and not the whole call. It is a bitch how context actually works.
3- 911 can't just send someone to your house because the "trace" the call. This is a common misconception.

The replies were correctly presented in the newscast. Her replies were still wrong. Yes 911 can send help and try to trace a call based on a little girl no being able to give her parents the phone.

first of all, i dont beleive this 911 operater was ignorant. she has to stay emotionally distant from all callers to do her job no matter where she is, and first of all if the child is too younge to give a address or doesnt calm down enough to give it, if the dispatcher doesnt distract the caller from her information she has nothing to tell the cops, and who in there right mind believes that the cops and the ambulance could have gotten there sooner if the disapatcher had a diffront attitude?

I thought the dispatcher was a little short with the kid and should have been more compassionate. Oh and asking to talk to the dead dad was awful. However, as for tracking, does everyone know for a fact that the child was using a landline? Although cellphones have a GPS locator that can be used for location, cellphones usually can't be tracked the same way as a landline. It could very well be that the dispachter really did not know the address.

I was also hung up on 2 times by the Fresno Police Dept. A black man had my boyfriend at gun point and was stealing things in my bedroom while I kept calling 911. I kept begging the operator to send the police before the gunned robber shot us. Finally after the 3rd call, I convinced her to send the police to save us from getting shot to death. Cops came, saved our lives, then the cop told us to, "Get out of dodge." When is Jesus gonna show cops they can't get away with their nonsense !!!!!!!!!!

I hate calling 911. There is a reason why we call them. They ask us dumb ass questions that make no sense and they say they do that to calm a person down. In this case I feel bad for the girl.MOST dispatchers act stupid. They are the ones who make the call for police, fire or ems to actually respond to the scene of emergency. Its also the assholes that call 911 to report a cold sandwich or a losing lottery ticket that makes the dispatchers this way.

Wow, apparently the poster of this video and many other people on here are 9-1-1 operators themselves with all the advise they're giving. Listen, if you're not a 9-1-1 operator, stop pretending you know what's going on. Yes, this dispatcher is incompetent and should get fired. However, not all places have an E911 service and so the location won't always show up. On top of that the location that may show up can be wrong so it has to be verified.

@pljtgh No they can only figure it out quickly if it is a landline, SOME (not most) 911 areas have technology to trace cell phone calls, but it takes a few minutes. The rest can only narrow the location down to within a few blocks.

i've accidently called 911, and hung up within 2 seconds of noticing. DIDN'T stop the cops, fire truck and ambulance from showing up to my house 20 minutes later anyways.....so why on earth does this dispatcher need the address....the address is nice to double check what they already have on file, but it shouldn't prevent anything.

Also I am confused how they don't know where at I once accidentally called 911, I tried to do something that was like 711 or something it was years ago and my phoned didn't have an off button and the battery was fully screwed in and attached so I quickly turned it on the off (The on was also off button) and within 5 minutes they were there and it never even rang
