If anyone is interested, i recorded a cover of the "Mellon Collie Reprise" or the thru the eyes of ruby outro, which is the quiet part at the end of thru the eyes of ruby with the acoustic guitar and other electric guitar. I'd appreciate it if anyone would give it a listen.
like someone said here, a era of the pure pumpkins. the original formation and the feeling that their music was for a reason a feedback of a will to live by creating music. billy corgan. between 1992 and 1996, was iluminated by great inspiration to compose and write such unique rock songs.
no one doubts that the reasons that took the comeback a years ago had nothing to do with this music.
just look at the people in the front row at the tend of the song: no dancing, no moshing, no jumping. The same crowd doing all that a minute ago is now just standing still. Plain beautiful.
One of the most influential bands in the last 20 years right here! Billy Corgan is a pure poet, and one of the greatest songwriters of our generation--arguably the best in the last 25-30 years. A+ concert! It's too bad these guys cannot settle their differences and get all of the original members back together. It just isn't the same without all four originals. It's like when Pink Floyd went on tour without Roger Waters--it was great, but still not exactly the same 'aura' as it would've been.
The more i see Jimmy play live... the higher he goes on my alltime best drummers list. And i am not talking about pure technical stuff like Jazz/Fusion stuff i mean smack you in the ear, thump on your chest good shit... watch out Danny Carey and Bonzo... he's catching you quickly.
I saw them for the last time on the "warm up" leg of the 95-96 tour. Acadamy in Manhattan. They were unbelievable, especially in such a small venue. I forget if it was this song, or Porcelina, but at the time I was so blown away - of course the drugs helped alot... Chamberlein was the Bonham of his era.
I saw them among an audience of 3,000 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on the "secret" first leg of the tour (and when they came on stage wearing pajamas), and Jimmy Chamberlin changed my life during the drumming starting at about 5:24. Drumming so massive and powerful, even during the simple parts. Obviously a video doesn't capture it, but I was like, "you can do THAT on drums?!"

This must have been recorded before Jimmy bummed that keyboard player to death.............just like Michael Barrymore did to that guy in the swimming pool.
Is this the greatest Pumpkin song opening ever or what? Socks you right in the teeth. The whole song is amazing ... the distortion kick in at 1:51 is awesome. The lead at 2:24 is total money. The lead at 2:49 is awesome. "The night has come to hold us young" ... spectacular buildup with the drums, Jimmy goes nuts. Even Billy's pick scrape is awesome. And yes, even Iha's solo here is a nice element. The ending just floors you. 10 out of 10 ...
this is one of the best pumpkins live videos i have ever seen. it's one just of the best songs off melloncollie, its one of their best songs full stop. corgan and chamberlin are one of rocks greatest and most underated songwriting duo's.
...by far the greatest song ever written..written it was by my most treasured band the smashing pumpkins, its a fuckin shame it wasnt in their greatest hits album list...i guess billy just couldnt see it together amongst the other tall trees hahahaha
I remember trading for a VHS copy of this video twelve years ago. The quality of the copy was complete crap and I couldn't stand watching it, but this wa sthe standout performance. Even with the video compression, this version is about 50 times better. I love the internet.
