@throwmeaname I totally agree, while I consider myself a dubstepper, you can look at it much like you look at today's hip hop. Sure, we have the hard, midrange WOMP WOMP stuff (which has it's time in place, in the clubs, anywhere else it's just annoying.) and then we have the more traditional dub oriented, bass heavy dark and syncopated dubstep like Kode9, Burial, James Blake and Blackleg.

The first season opening is very similar the Samurai Champloo and the second season opening is very similar to Cowboy Bebop, Aaron McGruder really liked both of those shows and usually the fights scenes in the Boondocks are supposed to be like the fights for Samurai Champloo. Which they really do.

It was a comic strip by Aaron McGruder[ from Chicago my home]. The show was inspired by Japanese animation style shows something I'm sure McGruder loved.

Said so on Wikipedia that the creators drew inspiration from Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Beebop. That I think, mostly refers to the animation style and voice acting though, not the overall setting and all or maybe they referred only to the animated show.

Either way, it's fairly easy to see that they've drawn inspiration from anime like those two.
