  • Irish - the best on earth

  • @MartianSanta where the fuck you from??? Come run that bullshit around my area and see what happens... you're a piece of shit and a moron. If you`re ever in Boston let me know. Id be glad to show you what we think of degenerates like you

  • (Sorry to bring sports in this conversation, but it's true) Being a Notre Dame fan since I was a teenager, I've always been fond of this song. I can close my eyes and see the Irish taking the field in South Bend.

  • Sure and tis the best ever. Thank you.

  • Rest In PEACE Nanna...

  • Ive been trying to find this song since forever, I have a leprechaun toy an irishman gave me as a kid and it plays this (or used to, when it was in better shape!)

  • Touches my Heart. Miss you Dad...

  • can someone tell me where i can get the lyrics from

  • @safsta2900 wikapedia

  • i ♥ this

  • It's a pity he is not around to-day, then we would hear some real singing. He died in

1945 when I was only seven, but i used to listen his records (The Old 78s) and still

do. Others are good but I think he was the GREATEST.

  • My mother, Edith Buck, really loved his singing. She was born in l912, and she and her mother listened to him on the old Victrola that you crank up. Mom always loved him all her life, and so do I.

  • yah hey for guinness!

  • JM sounds at his lyrical best here.... sure it steals your heart away.

  • Love Mr. McCormack.....yeah, even us wops do!

  • where's the hound of cullen when you need him...????

  • Oh the irish...Me dad loved the irish when he studied in maynooth, said they were the nicest people around, though he found their kin who visited from America arrogant and complete arsholes. As for me, I find them BOTH racist, provincial and dumb as doorknobs, so eff em all, the English kicked their arses thru and thru, and god save the queen for dat!! :)

  • @HayabusaSenToTai i hope something terrible happens to you

  • @seanbyrne77: Your best wishes are refused and resent to your kith and kin in Ireland who're walllowing in dire financial straits :))

  • @HayabusaSenToTai Message me when something awful happens to you. I have put a curse on you and my Irish eyes will be smiling when it comes true and believe me it will.

  • @seanbyrne77: Your irish curse no use...My asian witchdoctor has sent it back to you, have fun! :)

  • he was a song writers dream...you can understand every word and sang them so you felt like singing yourself...he is one of my heros!

  • Irish American Shite!!

  • Heard this song throughout my youth, It was a very long time ago, from relatives sang in the New England pubs by men like my grandpa and other Sons Of Ireland hard working men were they but sang asnd lived life with gusto. I have seen the eyes of many a lass in my time and this song came to mind each time, and indeed it was an Irish lass that stole my heart, for going nigh on 40 years. When I look into those eyes today it tis like yesterday.

  • That's beautiful!

  • A voice from a DIVINE source!

Two of my Grannies sang this

as well as Aunties, Cousins, Sis & me.

    what memories.

  • The lyrics to this song are soo true. irish eyes are lovely :')

  • I remember my grandmother singing me this song. Thanks!

  • my great grandmother use to sing me this it brings back wonderful memories

  • i have Irish eyes <3

  • Irish American Pride

  • @SGTJESW

    he wasn't American

you are either Irish, or American

    can't be both

  • @MartianSanta In America you can.

  • @RainbowHanryu no you can't

there is nothing Irish in American who's grandfather came from Ireland

or his grand father came from Italy

my grand father came from Hungary, it doesn't mean i am Hungarian

  • @MartianSanta The whole point of being American is that you can be American and still remember where you came from. It's the whole fondation of America. It's part of who they are, they are Irish AND American.

  • @RainbowHanryu

there is no difference between and American and a German Russian Chinese Afghan Iranian Israeli Japanese Italian

thee is nothing special about Americans

an Irish person who's grate grandfather came from Russia isn't a Russian Irish

he's just Irish, because this is where he was born and raised, this is the place that shaped him

just as an American who's grate grandfather came from Ireland isn't Irish

he's American, for Christ sake they don't even speak the same language

  • @MartianSanta You are completely ignorant. My father is as irish as it gets. I live in Maine. A town called biddeford where it is VERY french/irish. Almost every person speaks another language other English. And the culture still carries on from the originating country in every household. And as for us being arrogant, I mean we are the greatest country in the world. Thank you sir good day to you.

  • @ShaneHomies

"the greatest country in the world" don't let be silly

i can list several countries that are as great as the USA. and in some filed even better then the USA: Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland , Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Australia,New-Zealand,do you want me to continue? the fact you believe you are better then every one else doesn't make you better !

i know Irish people, and i know Americans, there is nothing in common between them! completely different cultures!

  • @MartianSanta I'm sure that you'd have a very different opinion if it were a couple from Southern Sudan who came and had a child in Ireland. I doubt you nor anyone else would call the child Irish, right? The United States is quite a large place, with many diverse areas with much political strife and differentiation. And what of American Indians, eh? Tell that "there is no difference between and American and a German Russian Chinese Afghan Iranian Israeli Japanese Italian" to one of them!

  • @Bloodmoon17 actually yes, maybe not first generation born in Ireland, because he may still not assimilate but second generation totally yes. he'd be Irish. he would talk in the same language and same accent other Irish do, study in the same school, brought up on the same ideals and culture. he'd be 100% Irish, only he'd look diffident. i had a friend who is Irish, his wife was English but they lived in Scotland, so there son was 100% Scottish. nationality isn't in the blood!

  • @MartianSanta I believe that goes into a much deeper road of opinion, however, to be called "American, and American only", as some one would say, is to strip our foreign roots away from us. I know of many people who live by and uphold Irish traditions, the lot of them are all second to third generation "Americans". And about the Sudanese family example, you are saying that you would ONLY consider him Irish. What if he learns he has Sudanese ancestry? What would you tell him? That he is not?

  • @MartianSanta actually u have some Hungarian in you. not completly. its part of your background. My grandparents are from Jamaica. im still a little jamiacian

  • @MartianSanta fuck you I am both- if niggers can be why can't the Irish?

  • @bonscott55

both what... according to your profile your Irish...? so your both what?

and the color of the skin isn't a nationality

you got American black people, British black people, and french black people, and white south African people...

arn't you a nice little racist

  • @SGTJESW UP LIMERICK! :)

  • A true smile starts as humour in the eyes and spreads to the mouth, some people have permantly smiling eyes.. .they pull the opposite sex, those that know not this; pull nothing!

  • the eyes will always show a genuine smile or not.

if you cannot see that, you must have poor people reading skills.

  • look at the eyes

    not the mouth

when you comb your hair in the mirror

    and youll see them smile

or imagine me, now tight lipped with that look in my ee

    good luckee

  • You have obviously never seen irish eyes otherwise you would know how eyes can smile

  • Wonderful

    Thank You

  • great song proud to be Irish

  • The lyrics of the song were written by Chauncey Olcott and George Graff, Jr to music composed by Ernest Ball.

  • This song has great sentimental value to me. because my great grandfather always sang this to us, he was a great singer too nd this was his favorite song:) but he passed away sadly, nd now i listen to this song nd I always cry but it makes me happy too. I love this song so much!

  • There was a bit of scrapping earlier about the talent of this gentleman. And he was compared with others. Not fair really. I just feel priveliged to have heard him.

  • My grandmother absolutely loves this song. She sang it in the hospital when I came to visit her and I recorded it but I never had the volume up : ( Still very beautiful though.

  • Takes me back to a generation lost.

  • A beautiful song, and magnificently sung. Thank you for posting.

  • a really moving and powerful song

  • Tanx :P

  • I cannot believe that I have just read the last comment. What was funny about his voice ? The diction and delivery was in the finest italian idiom. The man was made a papal Count for goodness sake.. His voice was superb. He was probably the first popular recording artists with his cyliders and records gracing many a Victorian Drawing Room. Anything funny about his voice can only be atributed to the sound quality of some of those early recordings. No way can he be compared to Lanza, for example.,

  • ....he made millions in concert, and gave up opera for it..he must be listened to, but but this small and dignified voice lacks the Italian idiom, and sounds funny singing Italian......that Irish tone and accent sounds odd and funny, as a thick Italian accent would sound to Irish listeners.....the man must be listened to, however....he belongs to the ages, like Gigli, Melchior, Lanza, etc.....

  • IF not for You Tube, I would not have known this man John McCormack and his singing, I wonder if it possible to get CD's of him? I am so much enjoying listening to the songs. Would love to have an old fashioned gramaphone and records.

  • When you think that, over time, this man was ecllpsed by the likes of Mario Lanza and other lack lustre tenors, even including Harry Secombe, heaven forbid, not to mention Pavaroti and the three tenors in more recent times. There is no comparison between any of these most worthy individuals and the sheer power and quality of John McCormack's voice. One other candidate I can suggest, however, is Richard Tauber. You will find him elsewhere on You Tube, go over and see what you think.

  • At the height of his powers, this man had the finest voice of any tenor both at the time or since. He was born in Athlone, Ireland and now lies in the cemetary at Dun Laoghaire, near Dublin, where he had his final home.

  • this was sung at my cousins funeral. touching song

  • "Come back to Erin" ...I'd love to!

  • My Dad would sing me to sleep with this. Its my Lullaby

  • Delightful!

  • The most beautiful voice of all time! It just transports you a heavenly state! We are so lucky to be able to still hear it and see a little of him on film. There will never be another!

  • No matter what colour they are Irish just the same.

  • Irish eyes are well smiling today, for the first time in 61 years they are the grand slam champions.

  • What an absolutely beautiful voice!!! NONE of these low grade vocalists today that are so called the best thing cant touch a short hair to John McCormack!!

  • dont be a dick

  • Try to fit a really big potato in your GOB, I bet it is too small!

  • I meant the really big spud would be too small, just in case you are in any doubt!

BIG MOUTH! What the ....are you doing on this site, if you don't like it, get to hell out. You are an embarrassment to mankind.

  • You have no taste, his voice is unique. It is an aquired taste, which means you have to give it a chance. Please listen again.

  • He was one of the most famous and well repected men durining his era. If I had only a few words to describe the early 20th century I would mention John McCormack.

  • Some beautiful duets with famous soprano Lucrezia Bori ... and Elisabeth Steinberg ... great voice ... listen to "the rose of tralee" !

  • Bing Crosby destroyed all this style of music. So lovely and when joined with Stephen Foster it's almost unbearable.

  • yeah, bing completely butchered this song. although his version of mcnamara's band wasn't too bad.
