  • LOAD OF SHIT!

  • St. Triduana of Scotland is the patron saint of the insane. When a pagan admired her eyes, she plucked them out & presented them to him impaled on on a skewer

  • lol funny thing is.... none of this is actually false :P peter IS literally a rock for the church, and yea, we have specialized saints... colberts just giving a very childlike description, like how i saw catholicism when i was 10 or so :)

  • Wow, I cannot believe people took that seriously on here. It was a comedy writing, it wasn't some sort of real commentary. I think it was a bit offensive, but I'll forgive him. Lol at prots claiming the Church was founded in like 300, though!

  • Thank you for reading an excerpt from Stephen Colbert book. Stephen should read up on the history of the Roman Catholic church first.

Jesus founded a "Christian" Church. The Roman church followed at least 200 years after Jesus' death.

Stephen Colbert seems to have a very narrow and one-sided point of view.

Jesus was not a Roman Catholic. Neither were His followere.

Joseph and Mary were of the Jewish faith as was Jesus.

  • the lone green line on the side of the screen at the beginning reminded me or the "My name is Mud" music video by Primus.

  • All Catholics are Christians.

  • @dacanale Yes, and all men and women are humans.

  • @dacanale --You clame ""All Catholics are Christians""!!!

I don't think so. What about the IRA! There's a terrorist group who are all Catholics, who go to Holy Mass on Sunday's and continuing their murderous campaign on Monday's. All Catholics in my way of thinking are not Christian.

  • @goinghomesomeday1 I could point to the protestant groups like the Ku Klux Klan if you really want to start in on those kinds of comments. I guess the Klan proves that not even all Christians are Christians.

  • @Cajaquarius - Indeed this could apply to the many religions ot religious groups who claim yo be holier than thou.

  • Jesus specifically said that you can separate from your spouse, but you cannot remarry while the other one is still alive. Why do most Protestants ignore that?

  • LOL that was brilliant, specially considering that Colbert himself is a catholic.

  • I'm a Catholic (and not a "Catholic, but..."), and I loved it - very funny. Thanks!

  • Her voice is what would happen if Sarah Palin and Foghorn Leghorn had a son, but she has great taste in literature.

  • you're an idoit. Stephen colbert is being a comedian here. In actuality he is a faithful Roman catholic.

  • She could use a slightly better bra (no offense), but I do like her hair cut.

    And Colbert is awesome.

  • Fake catholics pray to saits.REAL catholics only pray to god.the FAKE catholics go to church once a week and forget about god through out the week.colbert needs to do research before he says anything about any religion

  • @mzjose92 - Colbert is a Catholic (probably from childhood). His book is humor. But I do disagree - the Catholic church believes you must follow certain rituals and rules - which Jesus was always against. Remember His comments about whitewashed sepulcres and cups - dirty on the inside. Jesus died to give us direct access to God - not through priests and popes.

  • @fwfassett Colbert is a very intelligent comedian, who uses humor to make his point. I agree with you comments about Jesus' stance on rituals that are not backed by sincere faith. However, it is not only the non-catholic Christian churches that have the market cornered on revival. We are busy inside "the church" waking people up to the emptiness of many of the rituals that have lost their faithful support of the believers. I think their valuable, but that is because I understand the point

  • @mzjose92 he teaches sunday school

  • @harwell2010 that dosnt mean he is right about eveything....if you want to find out for yourself read the catholic catechism

  • @92josemz obviously that is true but i just wanted to point out that he is more than a person who calles themselves catholic he actually more than some person that just calls themselves catholic he knows what he is talking about and i agree with every word

  • Goddamn, she has an annoying voice.

  • ..Very funny...good presentation. I read his book, but his delivery is really what makes him funny.

  • sounds like we are one uping on another no we are not supose to do that, there arn't many roads to God there is but one through Christ Jesus as the bible says Jesus is the way truth and life No man commeth to the Father exept by men

  • Retard much?

  • back at ya

  • @blessedwithoutmeasur

I have a friend who sleeps around and drinks. She believes that she is saved because she believes in Jesus. What's the point in following moral values if just believing in Jesus gives you a free ticket into Heaven?

  • @melora72 she isnt saved if she sleeps around because your heart changes, and you know what is wrong and right for he gives you power to not do thoughs things. it is a free gift you can't earn it it is free epheasians 2 :8 -9

  • @blessedwithoutmeasur

Thanks for the response. I'll ask her about it next time I see her. She has a lot of health problems, and alcohol interferes with her medications and her judgement. She has a lot of problems.

  • @melora72 ahh I will make sure I pray for her!! God Bless you

  • wow she has an annoying accent

  • Someone can't catch a joke. He's just a funny guy, and every line that you snarl at iss a joke for him.

  • they don't match up to scripture....if you know scripture and it's your foundation to determine what isn't truth. then why would i have too if it isn't God breathed like the Bible is?

  • haha fuck up for fuck sake ill slap the fuck out of you stupid fenian bastards fuck this fuck bitch

  • How come the Bible doesn't match up to catholicism?

  • To learn more about the Catholic Church read the book of Acts.

  • I have and it doesn't match the catholic church. no pope, no praying to people that have passed on, no venerating of objects, no priest,(presbeyter doens't mean priest) no hol;y water, Jesus never gaver instructions to any priest to turn bread and wine into his flesh and blood, no one carried bread in a monstrate, no one wore fancy expensive vestments..i could go on and on.

  • Many of the things you name are completely irrelevant. Does your pastor wear a shirt and tie? I don't see shirts and ties in the book of Acts! Were clothes even talked about in Acts? You are focussing on silly little things. Are you at all curious at what the first Christians believed? Those taught directly by the Apostles? Because there writings are available. Have you ever read them? It's pretty fascinating.

  • It does, why not give the benefit of a doubt and study?

  • what are you talking about? I have, that's why i know it doesn't match.

  • how much have you studied this?

  • How much?

  • more then you, to obviously know that your church preaches and teaches another gospel other then the one in the book of Acts.

  • and obviuosly more than thousands of theologians who spent their whole lives learning and studing about the Catholic church, but ofcourse a handful of protestants beat those don't they?

  • yep, you got it.

  • Tell you what, give me a name of 1 book you read(besides the bible, catechism)in defense of the Catholic position?

  • "Where is THAT in the Bible"

    "Catholcism for dummies"

    "Why am I a catholic?"

    "Rome sweet home"

    "The gospel according to rome"

    "a biblical defense of catholicism"

    take your pick

  • "Catholicism and Fundamentalism"

    "Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic"

    "Crossing the Tiber"

"The Faith of Millions" Great books.

  • Comment removed

  • @GraveyardGhost66

I have one called "Catholic Answers to Fundamentalists' Questions." It helped me understand some things about Catholicism that I was unaware of, and gave me insight into why Bible-oriented Christianity seems so foreign to me.

Alrok, you don't need permission from the Pope to join the army or defend yourself. Where did you get that idea?

  • catholics have to wait till thhey get papal order to attack or defend against an enemy, but protestants can do so freely according to their conscience.remember all catholic and orthodox christians u r commiting sin against gogod every time you bow down before an image or pray to an intercessor other than jesus.i will support catholics if they can show me one scripture in bible that permits you to worshipimages or pray to intercessor other than jesus.

  • kudos cath renegade...caths and orthodox churches use images and idols to worship god.bible says in exodus worship only one god have no image of anything to worship.because god is spirit and the one true god should be worshiped in truth and spirit.prots are the only ones who worship in truth and spirit.others have infused idolatary with worship.there is only one interpretation of bible for prots thats the one guided by spirit of god.

  • What s the difference between Protestantism and Catholicism? :

Catholics follow the interpretations of only one man with the many.

Protestants follow the interpretation of the one standing next to them upon sunday(quoting the bible)...

  • Why not educate yourself first before making such a statement?

  • In what you said about saints, what are your views on sainthood and the first commandment? Since it says that your worship should only go to God, (or Trinity,) then doesn't "praying to" something count as worshiping it? Especially with mary - we actually have statues of her to bow in front of while we pray TO Mary... Something always scared me about that. I don't want to pray to anyone but God.

  • hilarious

  • Where are you from? You sound like you're from Canada, Michigan, Minnesota or something like that.

  • My guess is Michigan. Her accent is a little too sharp to be Minnesotan, imho.

    How about it, dotsetloops?

  • if someone ever read to me like this person to person i'd be so pissed off. if i wanted to know what the book said word for word i'd read it myself.

  • All people who earnestly are offended by this reading ar very stupid!

  • Or maybe just a little

  • OK they are only just a tinsy winsy bit stupid!

  • Very Good! and sooooo true!

  • Making fun of somebody's weight online puts more feet in your mouth than you could ever comprehend. I'm actually embarassed FOR you

  • I'll see your selling indulgences is a thing of the past, and raise you..

Rich men and women in parishes are treated like celebrities and royalty,,while those who only give twenty dollars a week are treated like loyal dogs or cats who are good mousers.

  • Wonderful comment. I'll see you and raise it again from a -5 to a -4, keep having that audacity brother.

  • the catholic church assembled and then sanctioned the bible in various councils throughout the 4th century. If the catholic church is made up then by default the bible is not legitimate.

  • Yes this is always one of the things I've had the most trouble with. Nowhere in the Bible did it say that we have to go to a certain building every Sunday and drink a shot of expensive wine or something very bad will happen after we die - I really can't find where it says that. It may actually say that! Someone please quote a reference if so....

  • @CatholicRenegade - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:7-9

No works (church attendance, confession, communion, etc.) are necessary to be saved from hell - only faith in Jesus Christ's finished work of forgiveness and redemption.

  • @fwfassett Hey fw. You're right in saying thay that we are saved by grace through faith. But not by grace through faith alone. "Faith alone" is not mentioned anywhere in the bible except in james 2:24, where it says explicitly that we we are not saved by "faith alone". When Paul often speaks of not being saved by works of the law (also in Rom 3, Gal 2), he is referring to old testament levitical law.

Sacraments are things that Jesus told us to do.

  • @fwfassett That is great! So, all I have to do is believe and I can go around life being as nasty, constantly sinning person committing heinous acts and I am saved! Yee-Ha! Talk about conning God-- having my cake and eating it too! Thanks for the enlightenment!

  • @andrejude - You don't believe that. God cannot be conned. He knows your heart. That is how He can separate the sheep from the goats. If a person truly has Jesus and the Holy Spirit he will not want to sin. Try it - you may like it.

  • @ned262626

There are several books of the original Bible that were taken out by Martin Luther. That's the Bible that all Protestants have used since then. Both Catholics and Orthodox kept the parts that Luther removed. So people are woshiping an edited version of the Bible.

  • What kind of accent is that?

  • God bless the catholic church!!

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • Learn to read!

  • Learn to listen!

  • Ha ha ha you are illiterate and a pervert you worship the english queen and you are less than shit.

  • listen to yourself " them people", your sterotypeing. Why would you sterotpye? that just casues more hate. And Catholics dont "shag before marriage", sex before marriage is sin in the Catholic religion. If you are truly any kind of Christian, you must first learn to not hate and not sterotpye and respect other peoples beliefs that are just different from your own.

  • Can you please show me some quotes from the Holy Scripture where it says that those who are not married should never "know one anothers' flesh." Not necessarily slandering you, but I really need scriptural backup for anything the Catholic Church tries to tell me. Many of the other major religions are insecure about enjoying sex as well - and if those religions are wrong, why do they tell us the same thing as the RCC?

  • 1 Cor 7:8 But I say to the unmarried, and to the widows: It is good for them if they so continue, even as I. 9 But if they do not contain themselves, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be burnt.

Why do you need Scriptural backup? The Church in itself is an authority for doctrinal issues.

  • sir before you go and insult someones religion you at least might want to learn how to spell it first( Catholic). And the fact that you use that horrible sterotype towards Priests is pretty insulting considering i want to be a Priest. So dont be like that eh.

  • Poor child! Did you get your money from your diocese for the damage done?

  • Poor thingy! Hope it didn´t hurt much. I´d bet you´r a gay rights activist now.

  • Steven is so funny. Lol

  • he's not running for president

  • Lovely tree you have there.

  • Um, it's not serious. Stephen Colbert is a comedian. Roman Catholics do not believe Jesus turned Peter into a rock. You have to know the reference to get the humor, I guess. Makes me glad I'm actually familiar with the Bible, Catholic beliefs, etc.

  • And the fact that you're completely stupid like the above poster.

  • wow... you're dumb.

  • pirating a book... BRILLIANT!

  • a YouTube clip of someone reading from a book.

First for everything! I liked the passage too.

  • This is my favorite part of the book. Brava.

  • Just pray to St. Anthony, finding lost things is all he does for eternity...ahahahaha, love it!!!

  • Liked the passage.Loved the reading!

  • I really enjoyed it. thanks for sharing.

  • You do know this is satire....Don't you????? You go girl...Just avoid St Ursula....Otherwise...
