1) Whistle Register refers to the highest registers that the human voice can produce. Mariah is one of many singers that can sing in that high of a register, but she is the only one that can produce words and a consistent powerful vibrato of those notes. You can wikipedia Whistle Register...

2) Vocal Nodules affect the vocal chords. they develop because of over straining, shouting, singing of voice, etc, but if you do have them, your voice will sound more hoarse and your vocal range is limited
