interkosmos-usa costs $ 50 million a ticket for each american astronaut ride up to the space station...falcon-9 rocket with dragon /orion capsule will not be manrated until what date? / @ milwaukee
@ugs18 The Russians built one space shuttle and a second wasn't finished because of the fall of the Soviet-Union. It only made one flight though, because it was later destroyed in a collapse of the hangar it was placed in.
For the rest they have always been using rockets indeed. The biggest difference between the Spaceshuttle and a rocket is the amount of cargo it can carry. Shuttles are always used to carry large amounts of weight. Rockets rather carry people and small amounts of weight.
They made space shuttles because they wanted something theorically reusable. We all know it's not really the case. The sturn V rocket could carry more than space shuttles.
@HordeFTL To be an Astronaut these days, you do need to be able to speak a good level of Russian. Same goes for Cosmonauts on Space Shuttle Launches, where everyone round them is speaking English :P

Is there no much vibration inside the Soyuz?
The footage taken from inside the space shuttle, for instance, show a lot of vibration.

is it really cheaper to outsource our astronauts to Russia to be launched in to orbit?

@AntiMusick When I was watching it live I felt sorry for the one NASA Astronaut, everyone was talking russian around him and he seemed kinda lost

@nickyp28 Ah I See, I guess there on the ISS with russians for months on end so it would be hard to get by not knowing what everyone is saying
HordeFTL 1 year ago
@AntiMusick For now, yes. The USA won't have anything to launch Astros on for a good 6-8 years once the Space Shuttle fleet is retired next year.
