I'm a Z guy, but the Shelby should have won. Stangs are drag queens; they have massive rear grip with a live axle to put it down. I love the Z range because they are a well-rounded package of a small rigid chassis with all independent suspension and only moderate power for a good weight distribution - but I wouldn't drag them against a pony/muscle car that was was bred for purely straight line performance.
a tt 300zx would simply destroy that stang even if the driver was a pro period quit hatin my 300zx has about 265k miles on it no rebuild ive been trying to blow the moter in it for ever so i can swapp in the tt and i beat the crap out of it every day and it still pulls like i just bought it, that stang on the otherhand would be happy to see 100k miles befor blowing up.

The most beautiful cars I have ever seen are, in order, the 300zx (1990–1996), the Acura NSX, and the Lamborghini Countach. I will probably never own a Lambo, but I will one day get my hands on a (hopefully black) 300 turbo with low mileage. I can't wait to pamper one of my own. :) You just can't beat the aesthetics of this Z. Oh how I wish Nissan would reprise this model. Who knows, I may even get an NSX to park next to my Nissan. :)

The Shelby driver didn't even know where to position himself for the start of the race. It was a totally inexperienced driver through and through. That Shelby should have wasted the 300ZX and I'm impartial because that was the last car from Nissan that I really liked but horsepower doesn't lie. Had the Shelby had someone who knew what he was doing it would have won by a good distance.

the shelby aborted the run half way thru. its trap speed was 95... they trap stock around 120. even if you suck at driving and spin 1st 2nd 3rd its not gonna affect trap speeds that much. and while i like 300zx's, a mid 13 second quarter mile time is nothing to brag about.

14.9 for the Shelby? Should have been a 12.4. Looked like he started spinning in second and got scared? I have owned both cars. It takes a lot of mods on the 300TT to hang with the Shelby if the drivers are equal. Z is fun to drive on the street, solid and T-tops were awesome. With bolt-ons and full suspension the Shelby is mind blowing fast. Considering you can get a nice Z now for 9-10k, you definitely get a faster car for less, but you have to enjoy working on them. I did not.

@turtleman219 - I have owned a couple Z32's. I traded a mint 96 300TT for my Shelby GT500. I think the Z car is one of the most well built Sports cars I have ever owned. Z32 series were way ahead of their time. They are a pain to maintain now because of age and space. Always fixing something. My Shelby with similar mods as my 96 TT would D.E.S.T.R.O.Y my Z in 1/4. Of course, I replaced the entire suspension on the Shelby and the Z would still get away in turns.

Lol, thats my dad in his GT500. Cut the guy some slack it's his first out on the track with the new set up. I personally drove the car down the track and ran a 12.7 BONE STOCK. His upgrades include Smaller pulley with tune from Justin @ VMP tuning, Larger heat exchanger, all new steeda rear suspension, 20 inch steeda wheels, wrapped in Nitto Drag Radials. With some practice and with the tire pressure dialed in the car will run 11.20's. Dyno'd 625Hp/ 585 ft. lbs tq. Better times to come promise.

@xxdevo2685xx no guy your wrong you dont get 3 to 4 pounds of boost from adding a lighter lower crank pulley you get it from adding a bigger one like a 10% or a 15% overdrive crank pulley and then you can also get a 2.6 upper pulley and get another 3 to 4 pounds of boost but you still wont make over 600 with both the upper and lower along with a intake which his already has and a tune. the dyno might have said 625 but ill be willing to bet its not a mustang dyno
@xxdevo2685xx all mustangs have high numbers on a dyno unless its tuned for a mustang then it takes another 40 or so hp of the total i have a 10% OD crank pulley a 2.59 upper pulley jlt intake and a tune from justin a vmp tunning and i made 583rwhp
@2008cobra1 hmm...where are you finding all the new mustangs have a higher numbers? 2011 Mustang makes about 365 rwhp when its done in the correct 1:1 gear. The new rule of thumb for manual transmissions is about a 13% loss. The 4.6 3v puts down about 270 rwhp

It strange to just be cruising around youtube and find a video of myself running. I'm in the 300zx. Its a 1990 not 96 not that it matters that much. I take a little offense to the comment that both drivers suck. While I did have a slow reaction time, I wasn't concentrating of the jump that much I was just trying to run a good time. Plus, everyone must admit I had my act together alot more than the Mustang owner. The video response is of my best run yet at the same track.

14.9 for the Shelby? Should have been a 12.4. Looked like he started spinning in second and got scared? I have owned both cars. It takes a lot of mods on the 300TT to hang with the Shelby if the drivers are equal. Z is fun to drive on the street, solid and T-tops were awesome. With bolt-ons and full suspension the Shelby is mind blowing fast. Considering you can get a nice Z now for 9-10k, you definitely get a faster car for less, but you have to enjoy working on them. I did not.

@panthersblow any fords are waste of money clunkers, im running a 95 300zx 2+2 na 5 speed i have never lost to an american car, chargers killed, cameros killed, mustangs killed. i got many people to turn to z's before they dumped hella bread into a crappy american car. if you wanna race im down anyday anytime as long as CHP dont catch me hahaha, im in san francisco!

@turtleman219 - I have owned a couple Z32's. I traded a mint 96 300TT for my Shelby GT500. I think the Z car is one of the most well built Sports cars I have ever owned. Z32 series were way ahead of their time. They are a pain to maintain now because of age and space. Always fixing something. My Shelby with similar mods as my 96 TT would D.E.S.T.R.O.Y my Z in 1/4. Of course, I replaced the entire suspension on the Shelby and the Z would still get away in turns.

@FFRPWNER1 haha, no, i have a job and i pay for my shit, like ive stated multiple times. and im sure i have much to learn, and yes i am well aware mustang handle like shit thats why i wanted something like a z cause they handle great and they're fairly fast in a straight line aswell. im also aware that twin turbo is better but its all about how much it cost cause i dont have a ton of money to spend, becuase like i have said before i pay for my own stuff.

screw all you haters. line em then. I drove the car a couple of months ago @ gainesville. type k7eenex in the search to see my runs, just goes to show with a better driver the car will run. Now since these runs we have installed relocation brackets for lowered cars, stage 3 mcloud clutch, aluminum flywheel, one piece alum driveshaft and a better set of Drag Radials the car will def go 11's all day.

@brownba1994 Yo dude, I dont have any quarrels with you, but my dad was driving the car in this video and He's an old muscle car guy, 50 + yrs old. if u check out my channel your gonna see me running the car, with the same setup, we have made better passes since then with some suspension upgrades,lightened flywheel, McCloud clutch, we ran an 11.84 @ 120 this past friday night, Still haviing traction problems right now having a hard time gettin tire temp up to get sticky.

Lol, thats my dad in his GT500. Cut the guy some slack it's his first out on the track with the new set up. I personally drove the car down the track and ran a 12.7 BONE STOCK. His upgrades include Smaller pulley with tune from Justin @ VMP tuning, Larger heat exchanger, all new steeda rear suspension, 20 inch steeda wheels, wrapped in Nitto Drag Radials. With some practice and with the tire pressure dialed in the car will run 11.20's. Dyno'd 625Hp/ 585 ft. lbs tq. Better times to come promise.

@2008cobra1 Well if you'd like for me to post his dyno sheet I will, the proof is there. Sorry your numbers may not be there, with his upgrades he made that number, He has a lightened lower pulley as well which is adding an additional 4-5 lbs of boost

@xxdevo2685xx no guy your wrong you dont get 3 to 4 pounds of boost from adding a lighter lower crank pulley you get it from adding a bigger one like a 10% or a 15% overdrive crank pulley and then you can also get a 2.6 upper pulley and get another 3 to 4 pounds of boost but you still wont make over 600 with both the upper and lower along with a intake which his already has and a tune. the dyno might have said 625 but ill be willing to bet its not a mustang dyno

@xxdevo2685xx all mustangs have high numbers on a dyno unless its tuned for a mustang then it takes another 40 or so hp of the total i have a 10% OD crank pulley a 2.59 upper pulley jlt intake and a tune from justin a vmp tunning and i made 583rwhp

@2008cobra1 hmm...where are you finding all the new mustangs have a higher numbers? 2011 Mustang makes about 365 rwhp when its done in the correct 1:1 gear. The new rule of thumb for manual transmissions is about a 13% loss. The 4.6 3v puts down about 270 rwhp

@cozzey05 i didnt say they have higher numbers im saying if you take a mustang to a dyno and the dyno is not set up for a mustang it will show higher numbers right around 40 more ive seen a video of a stock 2011 gt put down 421 to the wheels and and the guy was freaking out about it but it wasnt set for a mustang so he showed more hp

It strange to just be cruising around youtube and find a video of myself running. I'm in the 300zx. Its a 1990 not 96 not that it matters that much. I take a little offense to the comment that both drivers suck. While I did have a slow reaction time, I wasn't concentrating of the jump that much I was just trying to run a good time. Plus, everyone must admit I had my act together alot more than the Mustang owner. The video response is of my best run yet at the same track.

considering he missed 3rd gear, and lined up at the tree... he is just learning the track and car. Shelby is a low to mid 12 second car on stock tires, it just gets worse for any competitors if you add DRs....

@1RexRacer1 Major driver error! An 08 GT500 will go 12.0 with just drag radials. (I'm looking at it right now. '5.0 Mustangs & Super Fords', June 2010) The 2010 Shelbys are even faster, so yeah. This guy is just a noob who's learning how to drag race.
