The machine cover mount for the AK is a Western invention,,,
Mr. Yevgeny Dragunov got it right after Sergei Simonov and Alexander Konstantinov both failed to develop a sniper rifle desired by the Soviet command in 1963.
The Dragunov scope rail mounting system is used by some AK47 manufacturers like Saiga and Romarm's WASR 10/63 (I have both) because it's by far the best...!
@jodopeg I think the Polish were the first to come up with a successful dust cover mount design with their Mini Beryl AK. That's interesting what you said about Simonov. I didn't know he designed a sniper rifle. The Russians have their own dust cover mount design in use though. One drawback with the side mount rail is that you can't fold the stock.
@esh325 ,,,,true,,only a stock that folds to the right is used with the Dragunov rail mount.
The left and under folders won't.
And the Polacks probably did make the first cover mount, they make a damn good AK, even better than the Norinco or Bulgarian models, especially in the milled receiver ones.
I was looking at the Texas Weapons System dust cover rail a while ago but in the end the scout setup works. Plus, a lot of new AK products aren't initially available for the Yugo size, my fault for buying the one AKM that isn't compatible with the rest.
@the308capital I looked at that too, but I didn't like that you had to replace internal parts. All this replaces is your rearsight and dust cover. The scout set up does work, but the optics choices for that type of mount are limited to long eye relief scopes I believe. Do all Yugos have the extra button securing the dust cover? The one I had use to have that. If your Yugo has that and doesn't have a standard length dust cover, it won't work.
@esh325 All the Yugos that I know of have the extra button. That button was designed to prevent the cover from blowing off when the grenade launcher was being fired. Yugos have the shorter dust cover, so these new rails wont work. Texas W S released a Yugo variation for $20 more than the regular but I'm not a fan.
@the308capital As far I can tell, this mount will work on any AK that has a standard rearsight slot and takes a standard length AK dust cover. I hope they make flip rearsights in the next version of this. Thanks for the comment.
@the308capital Dont put any optics on a dust cover with a rail. You can't put anything on a dust cover, because the dust cover moves when ever you shoot. So it's a bad idea.
@Humberto4790 This cover is solid. It's designed to eliminate any wiggle in the dust cover. If the design of the dust cover mount is poor, then it's a bad idea. If it's a good design like this one, then it's fine for mounting optics.

But obviously everyone else copied it.

Would an Aimpoint micro T-1 co-witness with the irons on that mount?

@Everett07630 I don't see why not, but I can't say for sure.

@the308capital Yes, it's unfortunate. Maybe Parabellum will release a Yugo one if this mount gets popular enough.

Looks good man. Looks a lot cleaner than a side mount
