The healthcare in the US is rated lower than many of the countries with national healthcare. My experiences with private vs public healthcare shows that public healthcare is far, FAR better in the US than private. So if Rush thinks he can get the best healthcare from the government of Costa Rica there he should go there, permanently.

Hmmm....my experience with private healthcare has been a nightmare in every sense. When I was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer thirty years ago I asked my private doctor if I should go to the VA hospital for treatment since I am a disabled Vietnam veteran. He said no even though he also practiced there. It took me TEN YEARS to pay off his bill and I survived, by the grace of God, even though he said I would not. I now get healthcare at the VA and it is the very best I have ever seen.

We have a private market but private isn't a free market when Government calls the shots. They already set the prices for 1/2 the healthcare sector directly and the other 1/2 indirectly. Police, military, and etc are all train professional. But govt programs that deal with the public use is abused and corrupt and these program are not really helping with the problems they are trying to solve.

The personal income tax rate in the 1950s was about 90% for the upper brackets, in the 60s is was in the 70% range, it wasn't until the 80s (Reagan) it went down towards ~30% (i.e. like it was before the great depression).
Besides it's a PROGRESSIVE tax, only the higher segments of income are taxed at those rates.

European Countries have always lagged behind economically because of large entitlement programs. While wages are much the same prices on goods and services are much higher. Taxes are much higher. Medicare and SS you pay into while working. Rt. now one worker pays for 4 medicare reciepients. But with baby boombers retireing in the next ten years that ratio will be 1 worker for two recipients. Therefore mica taxes will have to triple to support the system.

Do you realize the Government would bring in more in taxes and have less fraud and abuse if there was a flat income tax on anyone making over 75K. (no income tax under 75K) Say there was a 15% tax. If you make 100k you'd pay 15K in taxes if you make 200k you would pay 30K or double the taxes and so on. Everyone would have a one page tax return no deductions.

Food Stamps program came from FDRs relief program. It actually fed the starving. The Food stamp program is the most abused program of all. They are given to anyone. The healthcare in the US is rated lower than many of the countries with national healthcare. My experiences with private vs public healthcare shows that public healthcare is far, FAR better in the US than private. Hmmm....my experience with private healthcare has been a nightmare in every sense. When I was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer thirty years ago I asked my private doctor if I should go to the VA hospital for treatment since I am a disabled Vietnam veteran. He said no even though he also practiced there. It took me TEN YEARS to pay off his bill and I survived, by the grace of God, even though he said I would not. I now get healthcare at the VA and it is the very best I have ever seen.

I actually agree with him though, it should go back to the old days... a doctor sees you, no insurance needed, sends you a bill. Well a friend of mine started having chest pains late one night and he has no insurance so he did not want to spend the money to go to the E.R.

In fairness to Rush, if you're allowed to opt in or out of insurance, it has certain values most Americans appreciate. However, if you're forced to buy in, it's no longer insurance voluntary.
If you're forced to buy into a system where people don't pay their fair share but some rate determined by wonks in DC, it's welfare and a tax.
Funny thing is, Rush still gets excellent care after we nationalize health coverage and he only pays the penalty tax.

We have a private market but private isn't a free market when Government calls the shots. They already set the prices for 1/2 the healthcare sector directly and the other 1/2 indirectly. Pooling our money as a society, and directing that to goals that most of us believe are "worthy", is something most societies do (i.e. TAXES).
We have firemen, policemen, military, interstate highways, DARPA, NASA, etc. You can argue about how "efficient" some of these institutions may be; however most are worthwhile.

The personal income tax rate in the 1950s was about 90% for the upper brackets, in the 60s is was in the 70% range, it wasn't until the 80s (Reagan) it went down towards ~30% (i.e. like it was before the great depression).
Besides it's a PROGRESSIVE tax, only the higher segments of income are taxed at those rates.
Now if you said CORPORATE taxes (as opposed to personal) I may have argued the point.

European Countries have always lagged behind economically because of large entitlement programs. While wages are much the same prices on goods and services are much higher. Taxes are much higher. Medicare and SS you pay into while working. Rt. now one worker pays for 4 medicare reciepients. But with baby boombers retireing in the next ten years that ratio will be 1 worker for two recipients. Therefore mica taxes will have to triple to support the system.

Corporations moved jobs out of the Country for cheap labor because the Government allowed it.
Do you realize the Government would bring in more in taxes and have less fraud and abuse if there was a flat income tax on anyone making over 75K. (no income tax under 75K) Say there was a 15% tax. If you make 100k you'd pay 15K in taxes if you make 200k you would pay 30K or double the taxes and so on. Everyone would have a one page tax return no deductions.

If the country with the LOWEST PERSONAL taxes had the best economy then MEXICO would be about the strongest economy on the planet.

you'll see an interesting trend. The countries with the lowest CORPORATE income taxes attract business and growth.
The TOP %1 of the US population have ~43% of the wealth ... the LOWER 80% have roughly 7% of the wealth.
The average CEO pay is about 300 to 1 more than the average worker, it used to be 30 to 1.

FDRs New Deal extended the depression by 8 years. New dDeal Programs raised prices on food, goods, and with high taxes People had little money to spend, and employers had less money for growth and jobs. Unemployment averaged 17% during FDRs New Deal.
Only after the war was over and programs and taxes were cut did we finally start to grow the economy.

I was in the store yesterday an saw a women buying chips, candy, steaks, and paid with my tax dollars. Fair enough maybe she needed it and is going through bad times. Then she ask for a fifth of gin and carton of smokes and paid cash. This is very common in my community.

Food Stamps program came from FDRs relief program. It actually fed the starving. The Food stamp program is the most abused program of all. They are given to anyone. People who sell them for drugs etc. Obese people who definently are not starving. It is a failed boondoggle entitlement program that should be scraped.

I know not all places are like this. I understand we need some form of welfare becuse my mom was on it for a while.
What I see in my community is spreading and what will stop it. I have friends that will not get married becuse it is cheaper to have kids and claim single with children and receive many govt programs. I know more people abusing the tax payers programs than the ones who actually need it.

So because of the people who aren't deserving, we need to let those families that truly need help suffer? I'm not saying I agree or disagree... I just want to understand your position.
Again ... there are countries that have good economies ... and provide health care for all.
Also if someone gets cancer, I don't think they do it to spite anyone ... even if they are poor, undeserving, and lazy.
The ideal would be to get help to people who TRULY need it ... hard as it might be.

Are you reading what I wrote. I want some type of reform but why does the govt need to do it for us. I am trying to point out all the problems we have now with other programs. People need help and not getting it becuse of corrupt govt programs. If we add more programs what will be the difference between those and this one. why must you compare us to other countries.

Sorry, I didn't understand that you were advocating reform ... it sounded like you wanted to just make overall cuts. Since the economy is getting worse we'll probably have MORE people who need help .. until things get better.
Also the reason I compare US to other countries is that people are constantly saying (maybe not you) that such and such CAN'T BE DONE.
So if Sweden, Germany, France, etc. can accomplish these things ... I'm saying we can too .. and maybe improve on them!

We are one of most prosperous countries in the world. We have the most freedoms. We can have a better HC system than we have now of course. But I believe it needs to be done through the free market and not throught bigger govt and more taxes. Yes other countries have govt HC. But why not have the best. instead of what everyone else has becuse that is the easy way out. America did not go for the easy way. That is why we are most prosperous place and have the most freedoms than other countries.

Some things get worse with "privatization", as I mentioned earlier the prisons in CA, Xe (formerly blackwater), etc.
When you add the "profit motive" it means (besides saving money) there is an incentive to withhold or reduce care!

Keynesians are wrong.WW11 was paid for through very high taxes and 85 million Americans who bought $185 billion dollars in war bonds and securities to support the war effort. Our population at the time was around 150 million. The wartime economic boom spurred employment, industrial production. Everything made was for the war effort. People saved their money because you could not buy anything. Everything made was for the war effort.

When FDR raised corporate tax and income on the rich. Many took their business out of the Country or hid their money in off shore accounts. Thereby Government recieved less taxes and the economy lost jobs and more taxes that are generated by business. With out the rich the poor and middle class have no jobs. Businesses don't pay taxes in that they add them to the cost of doing business. Which means those cost get passed to the consumer. Who suffers by taxing the rich?

Secondly if he wants to opt out of insurance, for any reason, he should be able to.
Being forced to PAY a PRIVATE company by the gov. in lieu of getting fined or thrown in prison is BULLSHIT.
heath care should be FREE and we should do away with wellfare, the system is fucked anyway.

If only 1-5% of the population makes 250K and over what makes Rush think the the average American chasing the dream (one house, one car, 2.5 kids, and a modest retirment) can afford to take a trip to the E.R.? Half an SUV is like 15K. (based off the Honda CR-V being one of the most popular SUVs)
What rush fails to realize is that our system hurts. Peoples premiums go up because of a money death cycle unintentionaly caused by those too rich for Medicaid and too poor to afford insurance.

Saying that people are asking for the government to give them health care is a false premise. People want to use the power of group bargaining and economies of scale to get more for their money. Also most of the discussion is about government run INSURANCE, as opposed to government run HEALTH CARE (there is a difference).
If you look at Germany, Japan, Britain, Canada, France, etc. they are doing a BETTER job than us.
For the rich it's great, for the middle class this system is broken.

I and many people around me have very good health care and very happy with it. But since 15% of the population needs HC that means we need to over haul and break the country to try to fix something that millions are happy with. We need to fix HC but not govt do it for us.

Yes I know other countries HC is just wonderful I hear it all the time from liberals. I also hear how bad HC is and the horror stories. I can ask a 100 people in america how their HC is and 50 % might say they love it and others might say it's terrible. but if I take the 50% that hate it and then say look I interview 50 people and they hate our HC system. So I look at OUR govt programs and say do you really want more govt programs like other programs in America.

Gov't that takes away people's individual liberties to fight a concept.
Gov't that throws people into jail who suffer from chronic diseases and addictions with no attempt or program to help the afflicted try to recover and become decent citizens on release from prison.
Gov't that bombs a country first and pulls out some random excuse for doing it (i.e. Saddam as the single needed victory over terrorist groups).

Privatizing failing government programs isn't always the correct solution. Look at the prisons in CA.
I agree there is some amount of waste and fraud, but SOMETIMES you get better results (economies of scale) when you allow a (DEMOCRATIC) government to manage the problem. And FIX those issues.
Why can other countries implement single payer (or two tier) and treat EVERYONE at a lower cost than the US???

depends on your level of health coverage, basic health care you are born with does not cover that, many levels of the Alberta Blue Cross would drop those costs substantially, or reimburse you for most of those costs

Rush is an ignorant moron. He says the "procedure" he had costs less than half the price of an SUV like it's no big deal. What Rush doesn't understand is that he's rich while most people aren't and may not be able to afford 15 or k to pay for a hospital bill. Rush never had a heart attack.
