  • Awesome video! Exactly what I needed to know/see. Thank you

  • Is that any good for fixing car frames and body work?

  • i love this welder ive had it for 1 1/2 years been using it to weld patches and panels onto my camaro i use lincoln .035 with lincoln i dont really burn through rusty 22 gauge steel the welds also have always held

  • In the hands of a skilled welder this little unit does some awesome things. Not bad for less than $100.

  • That really is a shitty welder i have one and i definatly wouldnt reccomend building a dunebuggy with i

  • Dude! I lost it when you commented on the wire brush. Too funny!

Question. I have a wood shop and picked up this welder, and want to keep the fire marshal of my ass. I have a fire extinguisher that's full.... Do you weld on your wooden bench? Or should I pick up the welding blanket?

  • I have the same one. It's kind of touchy but you bet that fucker burns hot. Made meself a hot iron brand

  • @offroadingmachine007...That is nice, that Lincoln parts fit on those welders.

  • @offroadingmachine007...That welder is a pretty good welder from what I have heard and seen. The only problem I see is getting parts for it. Sooner or later you will need a gun liner and a new tip. Can you get those at Harbor Freight?

  • @TheHossHobart No, but beleive it or not alot of Lincoln parts fit on these welders.

  • i learned on one just like yours from HF. build a go kart:yes Dune Buggy:no . i wanted to build a dune buggy with mine for my first project. with a 90 amp. but i did build a badass go kart. and it was a gratifying and good learning project. i got lucky and got a Pro Mig Lincoln at a pawn shop for $200. I'm an old man at 55. Inside of a year you'll be welding dune buggys and dragsters. keep with it and have fun. i learned alot from instructional videos off YOUTUBE also by the way...

  • those unite are a joke and cant weld worth a sh!t .... weld a but joint or a T joint slice it about an inch and see how much penetration you got and on the but joint do a bend test and i mean put it on a press and bend it in half and look for cracks in the weld and then we will see what you think of it

  • I'm in trade school for welding and since i am on a tight budget I'm debating on the Chicago electric 90amp and the Northern Industrial 125 flux core. Both seem to be very similar and have many positive reviews and a few negative. I have plenty of wire feed and SMAW welding and i would like a flux core so i can start making money so i can buy a Hobart 140. The Chicago is good for 18ga-1/2" the northern 18ga-3/16".

My head is spinning with the decision.

  • It is not the wire but the welder itself. Wont last long. If wire welding metal must be void of paint or rust

  • This welder fits my budget. Sold!!!

  • I just returned mine because it sucks so bad. The issue is that this welder is very inconsistent. The wire speed is impossible to calibrate, there is no set-up chart with wire feed recommendations so you have to take your best guess. Take a 1/8 think steel strip and weld about 10 lines across it. I guarantee you that all 10 lines will look different even if you do each one with the same speed and wire feed number. Did not like the welder at all.

  • @Chupria I think I will do that and show you that this welder is capabale of doing that just fine in the hands of a skilled welder who actually gave the machine a chance and didnt throw it out after one bad weld. Were you using the flux core that came with it or some other type of wire?

  • @offroadingmachine007

I would love to see that! I did not use the wire that came with, I bought the Lincoln Electric flux wire from home depot and my wire feed speed was around 2-3. I only used .030 wire as that is the only size the machine will take. Lets see it!!!

  • @Chupria I will do that! The machine can take up a .40 wire, i have done it, and I run my wire speed 7-8 btw.

  • @Chupria this machine can take both .030 and .035

  • @Chupria -- I have used this welder for several projects including a 14ft trailer. I would say that if you're not a good weldor, than this isn't the machine for you. I use the lincoln innershield .035 wire and the difference is incredible compared to the cheap stuff. I have not had any problems with inconsistent wire speed, and have produced hundreds of welds that look almost identical on 2"x2"x.125" tubing, with decent penetration.

  • i was thinking about buying one of these but after much reading i've decided to get the Lincoln. HomeDepot has a setup for $269, model k2188-1. my question is, do i need mig, or is gasless good enough? i'll mainly be working on my truck which is old and has thick gauge metal.

  • hello; im thinking about buying this welder.to put in some floor pans in my 1975 camaro. do you think it well be good for that?

  • great welder love it!

  • Thanks man

  • This welder is bitchin, my first one lasted 5 yrs just got another last week to finish welding derby cars.

  • i have one like that but i dont have min or max i have 1 2 3 4 for diffrent metal size

  • Would you say this welder is good enough to handle some exhaust jobs? Like piping and muffler changes

  • @jdmcg6geo Yes, perfect for that

  • i have the same welder, i bought some lincoln .035 wire but for some reason it dosnt feed it. the roller keeps rolling but the wire just stays in the same place. any advice? did that happen to you?

  • Would this work well on a 110v outlet?

  • @98CiViC0301 yeah it runs on a 110v

  • @98CiViC0301 yeah it runs on a 110v

  • Hey I was wondering if you tried the buzzer for the thermal protection? I think that would be a great idea especially for me just learning to weld.

  • Cool i bougth one too for 89 dollars but haven,t used it as yet

  • @hp11208 how do you get the harbor freight welder for 89$ like everyone says? On there website it is 119.99?

  • @MrBuckkiller55 just sign up to receive email promotions from HF and you will get cupons that they dont advertise in the store or flyers. I just got one for 89.00 with the cupon.

  • I have never used a flux core welder, just MIG and Arc, my question is, would you use this welder for making a custom bumper for an off-road truck? I just got the same exact welder as you have for free and since my welder is broke I am going to use the flux welder to put a custom bumper on my 78 F250 4x4. Does this welder get good enough penetration for 3/16 or 1/4 inch? This is an off-road only, wood hauling, beater truck BTW.

  • @landon460 Yes this welder should have no issues penetrating up to 1/4 inch steel

  • @offroadingmachine007 Have you tried welding aluminum or stainless yet?

  • @landon460 I have not because to weld aluminium you need a spool gun cause aluminium wire is too soft to feed through the regular line, and HF does not make a spool gun for this welder, or any welder as far as I know so dont quote me on that. And stainless I beleive you need a sheilding gas witch this welder is not set up for, but my stick welder can weld stainless seeing as how I have stainless steel welding rods.

  • And it can make pretty little welds.

  • Its has to be flux core wire when you go to ur local lowes or home depot if u want new wire or dont like the wire it come with. Ive used this welder at my dads to fix his trailor. I was very surprised with how well it worked for a $100 welder.

  • thank you for say that shit about the wire , i was gettingbeside myself with the one i just got , i will be going to H/D asap for some new 30 wire, me and my lemans thank you for your video

  • am so going to buy one when i have money lol

  • I just bought one of these, good for welding bike frames, and i patched a hole on the trunk bay of my explorer.

  • Im thinking to get one where can i get a coupon so i wont have to pay over a 100 dollars

  • I think it would of been smart for HF to build a loud buzzer for the thermal protection. Knowing me I would weld until the transformer melted. I have to get one to fix the floor on my conversion van and do some other work. I was going to put a hitch on but where you mount it the frame is rusted to bad but I am going to have a pro fix that.

  • @NerdForMIT Maybe when my warrenty expires I will make an attempt to wire a buzzer to the over heat light, if I do I will make a video, thanks!

  • @offroadingmachine007 Yea' I'm going to buy one of these welders just for the sake of it and I will probably put a buzzer on it cause I know I would forget all about that dam thermal stuff. But the welder seems to make decent welds for like 89 bucks whatever. It's a simple electric flux core welder nothing serious like tig or mig. Anyways have fun welding

  • Hey, if you got that as a gift, who cares what anyone thinks? Just one thing: can you use a tripod so you don't shake the camera like a misbehaving child?

  • @UpcomingJedi I cant tell if your trying to insult me or not.

  • is it easy to use for a beginner?

  • LOL @ 1:57

    "This piece of shit hammer"

Good video man, I just got one of these as a gift, and I'm pretty stoked to start using it (for fun stuff)...

  • @jonrhaider Haha yeah man have fun!

  • Very helpful. i just got one as my first welder for my bday. can't wait to use it this weekend, i'll go out and grab that .035. Thanks for the tip !!

  • Thanks for the info Wish I had known about the wire they send is shitty.

  • i think the northerntool units are the same guts and accessories. the wire that came with it had TONS of spatter. i just thought it was the flux core (im used to mig) but i reckon i'll throw the .035 spool i bought with it in and see how that goes.

  • @anonazero yeah norhterntool stuff is mostly the same, except some of it is some really high end quality items. the thing that differs hf and nt is that nt can sell known brand names where as hf can only sell the name brand of what they own (ie. chicago electric etc) and i think they sell like poulan or something like that

  • @offroadingmachine007 dude you were right about the wire. i put hobart .035 wire with a new lincoln tip and there is very little spatter and almost none of the spatter is sticking to the metal (like before with the crappy wire).

  • @offroadingmachine007 OK, I'm a welding idiot, a.k.a "never-welded-with-flux-before". My question is, do you have to ground the pieces that you are welding to a metal surface, or can you just ground one of the pieces as long as the other piece is close enough to catch the arc? I apologize if my terminology is incorrect.

    Dave

  • @roth0211 No, the peices have to be in direct contact, an arc will not jump. For example, if you have a table made of steel, you can put your material on the table, and ground to the table, but it will not work if the two peices are close together, they have to be in direct contact. I hope that answers your question, if it doesnt shoot me a message or something. Thanks!

  • @offroadingmachine007 So as long as the pieces are in direct contact with one another and grounded, it doesn't matter what type of surface you use to weld on?

  • @offroadingmachine007 So as long as the pieces are in direct contact with one another and grounded, it doesn't matter what type of surface you use to weld on? Meaning, I can use a wood top bench to weld on?

  • @roth0211 Yeah, if you look at the videos for my off road go kart its a wood table with like 24 guage on top, but yes as long as the peices are in direct contact it will arc and start to weld.

  • hv small lawn service. got new truck and need to put on 2 trimmer racks andblower holders , etc... u know the drill....$60 a shot at whoever i can get to do a measley $60 job....so....i figure....im about as clever as the next man....can i do this?

  • I was going to buy that welder tomorow

  • Comment removed

  • @cocotower Umm, probably, that it what the book says not to do, so I havent done it and dont want to do it. It is upgraded for 220 now.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey just got this welder and mine has alot of splatter is it just the shitty wire it came with or a setting on it

  • @rebelpride238 its the shity wire, but your always going to have splatter, just not as much with the lincoln wire

  • Howdy neighbor. Well, kind of. I live in Port Orchard, but have been to the Puyallup many times.

Very informational. Thank you. I am considering getting one to custom build roll bars, chassis, and accessories for my RC trail truck. Is a MIG welder the right one for steel rod and bar of no more than a .25"?

  • @snowmaninhell2000 Yes, but the welder in this video is not a mig welder, its strictly flux core welder.

  • could u weld exhaust pipe

  • @rebelpride238 Never welded before in my life. just picked this sucker up today. With the help of a friend an angle grinder w/ cutoff wheel, successfully welded a glasspack muffler on my truck. make no mistake, the welds were ugly as all hell. and did burn through in the process at one point. but after getting the hang of things, did close up the holes and can't break the welds.

  • is this welder strong enough to build a trailer to haul a bobcat in?

  • @houstonfool I would not build a big trailer with this welder, u could with harbor freights 140 amp mig welder

  • Great video, thanks for taking the time to post it!

  • i was thinkin about buyin one of these, do u think that it would be go for body work like on a car or bike?

  • @jn1992able yes it would, light stuff

  • what can I use for a metal cover for my 2x6 wood welding table? thin to thick metal recomendations.

    thanks good vid.

  • could you weld a roll cage and subframe connectors with this welder?????

  • @1lupa1 What kind of roll cage on what, and a subframe for what?

  • I've been looking at this model to use for restoring my '64 Falcon. I will be welding in new floor pans and rear quarter panels. Will this welder do it?

  • @bondking501 yeah as long as its not anything structural or loading bearing.

  • Could I build a motorcycle frame with this?

  • @CommanderKairu You could, but I wouldnt recomend it. Only because it probably wouldnt pass a DOT inspenction, if they looked at the welds. But you can try, but I will take no repsonsibilty if the frame fails while riding. I have to say that so I dont get sued.

  • thanks !its cool

  • i have the same welder i always here the cheap aint the best way to go but my thing is if u practice long enough u coul make any welder do wat u need it to do plus if dont have the money to get one with a great name i say use the cheap to get u close enough to buy a better

  • One last question at home depot they has 2 or three different lincoln .035 flux wire does your wire say anything on it..i see some is silver and some is copper color... I will be welding thin mild steal tubing...thanks

  • @3255959 The wire that you want it Lincoln Electric Gassless Flux Core Innersheild .035 Wire.

  • @offroadingmachine007 Thanks for your help

  • @3255959 No, problem!

  • @offroadingmachine007 is this harder than stick welding i have i may buy this but cutoffsaw and oxyactylene torch set are my priorites

  • @6013welder No, this is much easier to learn on..

  • @offroadingmachine007 my stick welds are strong but dont look as nice as those but i didnot have money at the time and i got the 70 amp stick welder new it was half price from 100 so it was 50 andi had a 20 % coupon so i got it for 40

  • Nice job, i am looking at this welder to use to weld thin steel tubing... I am sure on max setting it would burn through... But on min setting do you think would work... if not can you recomend a better flux wire welder with several setting so i could use just the right amount of heat? thanks

  • @3255959 It really depends on the thinkness of the steel. On minimum the thinest it could probably weld is probably around 24 guage witch is .0239 of an inch. Witch is classified as a sheet, and is not yet thick eboug to qualify as a plate. So your probably not going to find tubing that thin. So i think that this welder would be perfect for what you want. And as far as i know, there is not a cheap flux core welder out there. If i was you and had the money id buy the Miller 180HD Mig welder. 600$

  • @offroadingmachine007 thanks for your help

  • @3255959 To continue my comment. That Miller was around 600$ the last time that i looked. That would be perfect, because that welder could potentialy weld some really thick material with stacking welds but the requires some real skill. But i think in your situation this welder would be perfect. Ive welded an entier go kart frame with this welder, and its been working perfect, it makes some really strong welds.

  • i have the princesss auto version of the same welder and it does best with the lincoln wire i use the 30 thou wire right now from lincoln and i have done body work, made frams, stand for my tool with angle iron, fixed one of my vices with it, the thing kicks ass, i also have mine pluged into a 15 amp circuit and it still does a nice job either way, getting good looking welds takes pratice

  • Go HF!

  • i just bought this welder like 30 minutes ago! im glad to see this video=]

  • Im looking to buy this welder and it is great that people like you post this kind of information. Very helpful. Thank you

  • can tell me more about the 20% coupon kinda hard I live out in the sticks in west texas.

  • @TheSnickerdog I just subcribed to Petersons 4 Wheel And Off Road and there just happens to be coupons in there and i use them.

  • @TheSnickerdog Go to harborfreights website you can print off 20% off coupons that work in the store but not online(which makes no sense), they also have coupons for a free l.e.d flashlight. Also the sunday paper has them or most other magazines like car and driver, car craft etc...

  • can you tell me more about the 20% off coupon and do really think it a good welder I live out in the stick in west texas kinda hard to find these coupon ...

  • i just bought 1 2day and used the original wire, it sucks, ive never welded before n i bought to make some fix rust holes in my 85 k5 blazer, wut wire do u recomend

  • @JIGUERRAP .035 lincoln inersheild, it says that in the video

  • I also bought this welder about a week ago. I LOVE IT! paid like $87.00 bucks for it, and its paid itself off in a weekend. Nice video. would recommend joining the harbor freight club if you buy from them alot. you get waaay better deals all the time.

  • Nice! Im 14 and just browsing over some decent small welders, I`ll only weld like 1/8" thick stell, so I think It should do the job...and you said Its a good beginner welder...Thanks!

  • what magazine did you get that 20% off coupon?

  • @rr868 petersons wheel drive and off road

  • Thanks for informative video

  • Thanks for the video and reply. ...From your reply, I can see how you ended up with one of each machine. I'll have to do some more research before deciding on one.

  • @johntrev No problem, any more questions just leave a comment or send a message.

  • I'm looking to get a Harbor Freight welder, likely either this 90 amp flux wire welder (usu. $150, now at $99), or the 120 amp arc welder (usu. $120, now at $89). SInce you have both, I'm wondering how they compare and which you would suggest.

Is the flux wire welder a little easier for a beginner? I'm pretty handy, but have never done any welding. I'd be using the welder to throw together some ratrod style bicycles, and some 1" tubing garden benches.

  • @johntrev The wire feed welder would be much easier to learn on. But the stick welder is not as easy to learn on, but makes a much stronger weld.

  • i have the same welder 115 volt just doesn't have the overheat light you are right with the welding wire i bought some Lincoln wire from home depot and welded with it and it welded great beads and flowed great and good depth and i new i was going to run out so bought some wire from a welding supply shop some other brand wire and the welds/beads are junk compared to the Lincoln wire i ll be buying some Lincoln wire tomorrow from home depot or lowe's thanks for you video

  • I just purchased this welder; It makes a strong weld--a little UN neat in apperance. For the money its definitley a good little unit. Did not seal up an Air Condition Compressor very good at all and I really didn't expect it to. I would certainly recommend it for small jobs and if your short on available cash.

  • The Harbor Freight website says this unit is rated for 115V, 15A. The instructions--from memory--show different numbers. Among other things, the welder pulls 25A at peak usage. That's pretty nerve wracking since I'd be plugging into typical 15A household sockets with stiff, 35 year old, copper wall wiring. Are you welding off a 15A breaker? I've been debating installing a 30A breaker, new power cord, and one of those weird 30A sockets in hopes of avoiding a fire. Thoughts?

  • @jeffsheldon Ive been running a 15 amp breaker and everythings working fine, but you could install a 30 amp if you want.

  • hey what shade level do you select when you weld.

  • @motorhead45102 normally 10, its not to dark, and not to light.

  • i just bought this welder, so far it sucks and only lays bird turds.. you said its because the wire it comes with sucks.. and to get some lincoln flux wire from home depot. My welder came with .030" you said to use .035" wire did you just change the tip or where any other modifications needed? thanks let me know soon in case i have to take this back to hf

  • @billy420c get the better wire befor taking it back, and if its still doing that try a different welding style, change the patter you use. ive found that back and forth works the best.

  • @offroadingmachine007 I fooled with it some more and I found that back and forth works the best, i can get a nice bead with it now but there is a LOT of spatter and you can't get a nice stack of dimes bead going. My machine says to only use .030" wire, i think you'd have to use a different roller and tip for .035". Oh well for 90 bucks it sticks 2 pieces of metal together.

  • i just bought this im about to take it back I think.. it only lays bird turds, you said its because of the wire, what wire exactly did u use? you said .035" my machine came with .030" did u just change the tip or were any other modifications needed?

  • I live in an older home, do you think the amps needed will support the welder if I get one? Do the instructuions say? Thanks for posting this, I want to get one and make a bike

  • Great video! Thanks for being honest about the pros & cons, you've clearly convinced me to buy the HF brand. Can't beat the price and if I'm terrible at this hobby I can always sell it on craigslist and buy a couple cases of beer.

  • it is great i picked one up to day and its great im 13 and have 600$ in the bank and dont want to blow it on a welder so i bought on for 89.00$ and it is great

  • Question i just got the same welder and helmet, wondering how do you use the helmet? (Have auto darkening helmet like yours.)

  • Thanks for video. I am going to buy one next week.

  • I have this same welder and it's been working flawlessly since I got it

  • I heard Puyallup and i was like wtf!? I'm in Tacoma. Got the same welder, wire blows, welds are good with lincoln wire. Ever need an extra set of hands let me know!

  • the problem with this country everybody forgot to do a lot with less !

  • is it good enough to build a dirtbike light rack?

  • HELLO

CAN THIS 90AMP WELDER WELD THE NEW BRACKETS ON MY 18 FOOT STEEL BOAT TRAILER

  • @memberson Ummm, brackets for what, are they the rollers that the boat sits on or what?

  • @offroadingmachine007 you think you could weld autobody sheet metal with this welder ? like rust repair stuff like that

  • @delfino2187 it should with no problems

  • @offroadingmachine007 cool , harbor freight has a lot of cool stuff ,

  • @memberson post some more welding videos

  • I picked one up today and your right the wire that came with it sucks. It was hard to get a beed....but did get some nice little balls.....Have to get some wire...to see if that helps. Thanks for that info.

  • @metelbod Yeah, go to the closest Home Depot and pick up some Lincoln wire, but a warning, it will not fit the 12.5 pound spool, i do not know if it will hold a 10 pound. I recomend the Lincoln tips as well, there just a better tip than the HBF tips.

  • @offroadingmachine007 I did get the wire and new tips from Lows and it is 100% better. Thanks for the Tip.

  • Comment removed

  • Washington Huh,,,,,, Cool, Puyallup Fair is Amazing. Love swap meets too.

  • is there an option to hook it up to a co2 or argon bottle i have a 70 amp stick welder from princess auto i am really good welding with it my welds are very strong should i recommend this to friend who is starting out or should i recommend a stick welder he knows nothing about welding whatsoever pm me or reply plz

  • @spitzification14 no, i just got the straight flux core wire feed welder. the same company does cary the same welder and that one does except an oxygen sheilding gas. but as for starting out, it depends on what he wants to weld, if he just wants to learn how to weld than this welder would be perfect. if he wants to learn stick welding than he should perchase the harbor freight small stick welder, the one that is like only eight pounds. its around 150$

  • @offroadingmachine007 he said he wants to learn with a wire welder or an oxyactylene but his mom said no to bringing home any type of pressurized gas cylinder and he completely sucks at stick welding ( he tried it in my back yard and at school ) our welding instructor told him to try his luck in a wire welder but since i have a stick welder and i am really good at using it and i can teach him wire welding too since i am good at that too but i prefer stick

  • @spitzification14 okay, gas welding is really hard, theres no one in my welding class that can do it except for me and a couple redneck budys. but if he does ever get an acetylene torch kit then make sure he knows how to turn on the tanks, set the pressures and how to safely turn on and off the torch. but anyways, wire feed welding is definetly the best way for him to learn how to weld.

  • @offroadingmachine007 i almost got a flash back ont the oxyctylene at school i am way to impatiant to learn it lol way too slow but i use it to cut and i kind of hate it but my buddy rules a oxyfuel but his mom said no so he will buy a flux core because he needs it to weld outside

  • That's helpful, thanks

  • I have the same welder and I was wondering about the wire that comes with it. I didn't think I was that bad of a welder. I just might get some of that Lincoln wire when I get a chance. Nice vid.

  • @paisteboy Definetly should get the Lincoln wire, it works sooo much better, the welds are stronger and the splater is alot less.

  • I'm thinking of picking this up today to weld exhaust piping for my Turbo Eclipse. The tubing is mild steel.

What do you think the best speed setting would be for this type of job? What about the high/low setting? What determines the speed anyway?

    Good vid.

  • @jjrock5 Well, i did weld the exhaust on my 79 Chevy K20, and it worked perfectly. I was running .030 wire, at 4 speed, with it on low, and it burned through a few times, but i just stiched it together. The best way for you to weld that would be to weld alittle then weight a few minutes, leting it cool down, then do some more and then weight. You get the general idea.

  • @offroadingmachine007

    Thanks for the tips.

  • @jjrock5 No problem.

  • @ebentraywick It would work perfectly for that, its only about 35 pounds instead of like 60-90 for other ones. and it works just fine.
