Why didn't the Germans use their surface navy to bombard Leningrad? They had the tirpitz completed in early 1941 and kept it in the Norwegian fjords for almost 4 years until it was sunk and never even used it. The 8x15 guns would have flattened the city from a safe distance.

Stalin was not only a great military commander, but also a wise politician. In late 1930s he actully offered an alliance to Britain and France. Unfortunately, Britain and France refused to ally with Stalin, because they didn't trust him... Had it not been for their stupidity, the WWII could have been avoided.
Stalin had no real incentive in provoking a war with Germany. After all, a formal alliance with Western powers would already put him in a position to control Eastern Europe. All Stalin's political objectives would have been met.
It's far more likely that raising a powerful anti-German block would have scared Germany into total submission. Numerous documents unearthed after the war have shown that German commanders including Hitler feared the prospect of fighting on two fronts.
Stalin can rightfully be blamed for the massive defeats early in the war and the great purges which hurt the RKKA officer corps so badly. It is important to remember that he built the USSRs industry up and made it many times more powerful than Germany's which later proved to be a real war winner. Another thing worth pointing out is that the great purge killed both good and bad officers. A number of good officers lived through the purge such as Zhukov,Vatutin, Konev and Chuikov among others.

My grandpa also was a victim, first of russian, than german and than russian again. Today both get a special pension because of that, but not paid by Russia with its hundreds of billions profit from oil, gas and other raw materials... paid by polish goverment. East-Europe "won" the war, but in fact it lost, as Russia did. I mean 25 years after the war, the russian winners did already live again worse than the losers and because of them countries like Poland, Romania and so on too...

Why didn't the Germans use their surface navy to bombard Leningrad? They had the tirpitz completed in early 1941 and kept it in the Norwegian fjords for almost 4 years until it was sunk and never even used it. The 8x15 guns would have flattened the city from a safe distance.

I love they way they say the soviets "only" had 8000 tanks ready for action of which 1200 were in the leningrad front. The germans only had 3000 tanks for the whole invasion!! many of the german tanks for inferior panzer 3's. The russians had about 1200 t34's a tank which made every german tank redundant.

I think, if Hitler fully concentrated on england in 1940/41, Stalin would have crossed at least the borders to romania and captured romanian oil fields. He had 20000 fast light and medium abtanks and about 1500 T34/KV1 tanks (offensive forces) in June 1941 close to the western borders in non-defesive positions. Why?

Stalin had no real incentive in provoking a war with Germany. After all, a formal alliance with Western powers would already put him in a position to control Eastern Europe. All Stalin's political objectives would have been met.
It's far more likely that raising a powerful anti-German block would have scared Germany into total submission. Numerous documents unearthed after the war have shown that German commanders including Hitler feared the prospect of fighting on two fronts.

Stalin can rightfully be blamed for the massive defeats early in the war and the great purges which hurt the RKKA officer corps so badly. It is important to remember that he built the USSRs industry up and made it many times more powerful than Germany's which later proved to be a real war winner. Another thing worth pointing out is that the great purge killed both good and bad officers. A number of good officers lived through the purge such as Zhukov,Vatutin, Konev and Chuikov among others.
