David Ruprecht seemed unnecessarily distraught over the team's failure to grab the $5,000 prize by the bell. The last time this happened, he was perfectly fine.
So if they have their hands on the money and/or the final item when the clock hits :00 (i.e. at that exact second), does it count? I'm sure it would have here.
@gameshowguy2000 Their hands have to be on the $5,000 prize by the time the clock expires. It seemed too close to call here. The producers probably should have checked the tape.
@gameshowguy2000 My guess as to why they didn't review the tape is that, when the Bonus Round was developed for this version of the show, the producers probably NEVER expected something like this to happen. Prior to this episode, the close loss scenario had only happened once before.
@FutureNewsAnchor They probably did after the fact, and because the decision stood, they did not edit it out. Although it's too bad they didn't award another $200 for having the hands on the third product.
@gameshowguy2000 I'm assuming they do check the tape, because there are some episodes where the clock stays on :01 for quite a while (like one of the intros from 2002) because the judges determined the hand touched the money when the hand went in to grab the product. If that were true in this case, they'd probably edit out David's groans, superimpose the winning siren, and go back to recreate the closing with David congratulating them.
@sunnygurl09 No, it has to be on the money regardless whether or not you find the item!!!!! And to quote the words of the late Art James, "Rules is Rules".
One episode of "Millionaire" featured a contestant on SMS whose special extras in the big sweep were the Yogurt Shoppe and the Manager's Special, which was, on that episode of Sweep, some sort of Campbell product.
What Ive always wondered is at the beginning of the show there's a studio audience that the contestants are picked from which is right in front of the produce section. But during the Big Sweep the studio audience is gone, just a big wall is there. At 2:51 we now see an audience again.
@jeepthing98 From what I have always understood was there was a live audience for the front game. However, audience applause tracks and camera shots of clapping were used to create an illusion that an audience was present throughout the entire game.
@jeepthing98 The shots of the crowd were added in post, to create the illusion that they were still there, even though they were removed before the Big Sweep. They likely removed the audience so that nobody in the crowd would get hurt during the Sweep.

@FutureNewsAnchor It's because they honestly thought they won when they didn't.

The rule should be that you have to have your hands on the money OR the item by the final bell!
Thumbs up if you agree.

Did they at least check the tapes to remedy the dispute?
CaptainOvide 1 year ago
Yeah no doubt about it when the bell sounds he doesn't have his hand on the money. Also way to cut off the credits.

@xsmootx4 No, I did not leave the credits out purposely. They weren't involved with the episode

@mtiller2006 Ah, if they weren't with the tape or got taped over, that's understandable.

One of the most heartbreaking moments in the shows history!

@Bu8956 And it has happened many times before. That's why the siren lets them know that they won the $5,000.
