  • "At least I never married one!!!!"

    ROTFLMAO!

  • "IT WAS NOT A NUT HOUSE"! "It was a living facility for the mentally challenged".

  • Crazy how they tossed around the word "Fag" back in those days!

  • Helen looked better without the wig...

  • ted casablanca is not a fag! lol

  • Neely FTW!

  • That's a switch from the fags you're usually stuck with!

  • i'll go out the way i came in

  • i want to plug neely over and over again

  • Shows how fashion actually meant something...and standing out on your own. Not following the trends like the rest of the idiots today.

  • "VALLEY OF THE DOLLS"(1967)~ Very nice film.

  • I wish people would stop calling this brilliant classy masterpiece of a film "camp and hilarious"..sure it does have some funny moments but its definately not camp....this film is one of the all time classics i love it !!!

  • Helen Lawson's suckin' down that booze like there's no tomorrow

  • You ought to know, honey. You came out of the nut house:).

  • GREAT FILM!!!

  • what are the purpose of the pills?

  • notice HELEN LAWSON'S face at 0:19 when they snap the picture. LOL when she sees NEELY! LOLOLOL

  • Isn't Susan Hayward just playing herself? I've read a lot of stuff about her and she wasn't a pleasant lady to be around.

  • They should have re-made this with Joan Collins as Helen Lawson and Susan Lucci as Neely. That would have been another camp classic.

  • Helen Lawson was based loosely on Ethel Merman whereas Neely OHara was loosely based on Judy Garland.

  • These are the BEST scenes & lines in the entire movie. Love, love, love them.

  • sharon tate was in this movie 2 years before manson family slatered her

  • Susan Hayward was the perfect choice for this role. She was excellent.

  • Well, camp fans, it doesn't get much better than this classic clip with one great line after another!! I would venture to say that The Catfight scene is No. 1 for-so-bad-its-good- scenes. Its remembered for all the wrong reasons!! Susan H. is marvelous.

  • I wonder if Elvis ever saw this movie?

  • I've always been fascinated by the "dolls" themselves. They all look like Good-n-Fruity's.

  • These roles should have been played by drag queens!

  • Susan Hayward is wonderful in her role. But I'm sure countless people wonder what it would have been like if Judy Garland had been able to complete her role as Helen Lawson. Judy, with her charisma & nervous energy, would have taken the role to a totally different level. THANKS for posting this campy but cool clip! :-)

  • this is a typical mens room scene on any saturday night in west hollywood!

  • She loos better w/o the wig

  • Among the thousand delights of this famous over the top scene (do we have 2 hours?), let me just pick one: When Neely comes into the lady's room, Helen is sitting with a cigarette sticking out of her mouth at a defiant angle--it stays there like a knife Helen wishes she could throw at Neely. I see the cigarette as a visual of "Don't F--- With Me Neely!!" Just a little detail--but a great one. A testament to the acting genius of Miss Susan Hayward--Brando and the rest have NOTHING on her.

  • luv this movie what a classic.....the whole world loves neely o'hara.

  • Neely: That's a switch from the fags your usually stuck with.

Helen: At least I never married one.

I concur, this is one of the best scene's in this movie.

  • oooh it looks all purdy and remastered, good job :)

  • Wow... This is really dated... It makes me HOWL with laughter!!!

  • this was number 9 on the worst movies ever made list

  • @Apink420 Wow, whoever made that list must not have seen many movies.

  • @Apink420 im sure that list came straight from SpikeTV

  • Here's the short list: The Women (ONLY the 1939 version), The Bad Seed (ONLY the 1956 version), All About Eve, The Gang's All Here (some claim this is best watched while high), and any Barbara Stanwyck movie. Write a short paper on each and get back to me. Cheers!

  • @snappychuck Seen em all!! The Women is camp, but its INTENTIONAL--so that really takes it off your list. BAd Seed is really bad, YES, its camp--but also much of it is just plain bad acting.. AAEll is also camp, but also a lot other things. VOTD's is really unintentional camp--the best kind. Missy's movies--well some but not all--ever see Xmas in Conn.--good comedy--bit campy but not fullblown. Incidnetally , I was in charge of a camp movie night here in santa fe--it was a howling success.

  • @windstorm1000 The campiness of this film was NOT intentional...it just turned out that way!

  • OMG ! Its a wig !!! HER HAIR IS AS PHONY AS SHE IS !!!

  • That Costume Helen is wearing really was a great suit for the 60's No wonder why Judy Kept the origial costumes..:)

  • This movie was so shitty that it's absolutly FANTASTIC!

  • 4:24

  • how about a remake of this with Lindsay (Neely) and Demi as Helen- picture that. I love this movie ..it just stinks so much that it's great.

  • I'm 45, and gay. For some reason I've never seen this! WTF?

  • @Gevalle808 When I first saw it, I had the same thing go through my mind. But it's now one of my favorites. :)

  • @Gevalle808 Dear Lord, what other films have you missed?

  • @snappychuck Who knows what else I've missed.

  • @Gevalle808 This is must viewing, Gevalle. A friend once described the movie as having a beginning and end but no middle!

  • Forgot the wig. Your hair looks fine

  • i'ii go out the way i came in!

  • Nice clip, cool scenes, thanks for posting.....

  • @jsf51953 Susan Hayward was perfect for this role. She was a very strong actress able to play those tough broads. in the Movies. Judy was a great star and Actress with great depth but her fans wouldn't have liked to see Judy being belittled in a scene even if its just acting. I bet Patty Duke would have gotten alot of backlash from Judy's fans if Judy played Helen and her wig ripped off.

  • Wouldn't you love to have all that furniture in the room??

  • Trash at its best. This was supposed to be about J Garland

  • REPORTER: "Miss Lawson, have you made many changes since Philadelphia?"

HELEN: "HO, HO, YES, quite a FEW!"

  • bravo susan

  • I'll go out the way I came in !!!!!!! spoken like a true star

  • The best on-screen showdown since "Gunfight at the OK Corral."

  • <--------Awesome Retro Movie trailers!

  • Nirvana! Perfection! Speechless.

  • Lindsay Lohan as Helen Lawson and Miley Cyrus as Neely O'Hara. lol

  • lol my fav scene n votd

  • it's the Lindsey Lohan story! All ovah again!

  • "so you come crawliiiing back to Broadway. Well, Broadway doesn't go for boooze and dope."

  • @DaCoach68 Whatever did we do before Celeberities has rehab to go to?

  • "so you come crawliiiing back to Broadway. Well, Broadway doesn't go for boooze and dope."

  • Still great camp after all these years!

  • Academy Award Winning Star Susan Hayward returned to her old studio 20th Century Fox to replace Judy Garland in this Mark Robson directed film. Miss Hayward a real movie star dominates the film. I thought the movie silly but also applaud Ms. Hayward for stealing the film. I thought she deserved an Oscar Nomination.

  • oh, I love the hug at the end of this. It always made me tear up when I saw it in the theater....

  • i like how helen lawson is judging neely o'hara for her drug problem as she's guzzling down a whole bottle of booze.

  • The Helen Lawson character was the only sympathetic performance in the unusual movie thanks to Susan Hawyard 's talent. If one looks closely and listens she is able to introduce subtle characteristics in the dialogue that reveal the multifaceted character of Lawson.

  • I am so glad Judy was fired from this trash. I'm glad her last film was a good one. RIP Judy.

  • @gwin1962 I agree..

  • They wanted her to wear a cap that made it look like she was ill and losing her hair and she refused. Had she have done so people would have had sympathy for the character. The Helen Lawson character they say is based on Ethel Merman.

  • @ 3:00...why didn't the attendant offer Helen........ HER wig.....? and if ANYONE ever deserved a BIG TIP... its that attendant, "Old Ironsides" Helen stiffsher!

  • Her natural hair was pretty and actually an improvement. She looked constipated in that wig.

  • just another of those vd oddities:

@ 4:17 when Helen gestures with her fist, the sound effects suggests she is shaking a pair of dice and is gonna throw them down a craps table.

i also love the SF topless joint woo-ing patrons with its unique "slice of bread" sign.

  • It was probably the sound of her bracelet rattling.

  • The highlight of the movie. Though by this scene, Sharon's character has already taken her life and this was the only redeeming thing after that. oh the bit part by Richard Dreyfuss as a stage hand. One of my favorite films of all time.

  • LOL I love it

    meow . . .

    CLASSIC!!!

I wanted to be just like Barbara Parkins on that train.

the New York Times review was the real phoney, bought and paid for by the hollywood haters who did't get their cut.

  • If anything, this scene is a reminder of how great Dionne Warwick was before cigarettes ruined her voice! I love listening to her early hits and this is certainly one of her best.

  • Judy Garland got fired from the movie because she was too messed up by '67. Patty Duke said that Susan Hayward was even meaner than Helen Lawson! She also said the only person who was loved by everyone and was professional was Sharon Tate. Except for the evil director, who delighted in verbally abusing Sharon for no reason. I hope he fries in Hell.

  • New York Times Review* This movie is more phoney than anything Lana Turner ever did...

  • Scene at 7:26 so touching!

  • lol u know, judy garland was originally supposed 2 play helen lawson?! I just cant picture that! Maybe she found out that neely was patterned after her? Also, the sharon tate role was based on starlet carole landis suicide n 1948. Sharon wished that her own death would be so easy...

  • Cobra vs. Mongoose!!!

  • In my opinion, Helen Lawson deserved what she got. She was so mean to Neely anyway. Ole bag!

  • Jasoncr76 i couldnt agree more. I feel so bad for Neely.

  • I'll go out the way I came in.......

  • SPARKLE NEELY SPARKLE!

  • a depressing movie it you ask me

  • I love that look on her face when she says "How do I get outta here?"

  • are they drag queens? lol

  • @dinarama1980 They act like drag queens, lol.

  • This "bad" film is still loved after forty years. How many films made today will be remembered forty years from now.

  • On the camp gay drag queen scale, that was 9.95!

  • 9.999999999999999999999999999999

  • I don't care what anyone says, the movie is excellent and everyone did a supherd job in their role. Sharon Tate gave a moving performance and I consider this her best.

  • Jacqueline Susann was ahead of her time. I love this movie too.

  • The greatest movie ever made! LOL

  • lol Nealy "doesn't have that hardcore like me", as she takes another drink.

    I love this flick.

  • One of the best scenes in cinematic history!

  • 1:23

I can watch this scene over and over and over and over... i'm gonna burn a hole in the DVD one of these days...

  • Susan Hayward is mesmerizing and moving in ANYTHING that she does! Here, in a part that occupies probably no more than 15 minutes of the entire movie, she steals the film from EVERYONE and provides the one moment of true class in an otherwise trashy classic. Brava, Susan! There will never be another actress with your style and ability!

  • Oh, come off it. Everybody comes off bad in this movie because it is bad. But that's why everyone loves it. It's hilarious.

  • I used to act like Patty here when I was 16! Jesus, so sorry!

  • Well Broadway dosent go for Booze and dope !

  • Since when? lol

  • I effin' love this scene! GET OUTTA MY WAY I'VE GOT A MAN WAITIN'!

  • Bellamy: Lyon, I thought you and Merrick were keeping her out of sight.

Helen: You should've kept her in a straight-jacket!

    Neely: Merrick's not that crazy.

Helen: You should know honey, you just came out of the nuthouse!

Helen: Now you get outta my way, cause I've gotta man waiting for me.

Neely: That's a switch from the fags you're usually stuck with!

Helen: At least I never married one!

    LMAO

This is the Best scene in the film.

  • Judy Garland was fired by 20th and for one I think it was in poor taste to even offer Judy a role in a movie that was parodying Her in the role of Neely. Susan Hayward once the Queen of the 20th Lot

was called in and did a superb job in the role of the tough as nails veteran star Helen Lawson, in fact the movie would have been better had Susan had the star billing and more of a part instead of a long cameo. Susan Hayward was the only real movie star and real actress of the bunch.

    RIP Susan

  • From what you say, why didn't Susan Hayward just do the whole movie by herself? She could have played every role, using doubles as she talked to her fake self. According to you, nobody else was needed. I can see the marquee now......"Susan Hayward as The Valley of The Dolls".

  • "so ya come crawling back to broad way....well broadway doesn't go for booze and dope!!" LMFAO every time

  • "How do you like that, it won't even go down the john!?"

  • Bette Midler as Helen...

  • thank goodness you posted this!!! I was about to wear a laser hole thru my DVD from constantly looping this scene... As Mame said to Nora, "you're an angel!"

  • she looks better without the wig.

  • Susan Hayward was great actress, she won her an Oscar for her role in the movie called " I want to Live !" a very strong moved movie...

  • Judy Garland was original choice but she turned down not want to play the part as old lady , so Susan Hayward took over the part.

  • @lukemack Madonna should play Helen Lawson

  • ".....if Hollywood did a re-make : Neely O' Hara> Drew Barrymore/ Jennifer North> Jessica Alba/ Ann Welles> Anne Hathaway/ Helen Lawson>Meryl Streep."

Yes, and with John Waters as the director -- how could it miss?

  • I SO AGREE!

  • lindsay lohan would be perfect.because she lived the life already

soo she would be great for it

  • OH...please. Modern Hollywood butchers everything - have you seen the adaptation of The Women?!?!?!

  • Dreadful.....

  • lol

  • CHEEZE at it finest. I love Susan Hayward, everything she did ended up being kinda camp.

"the only star of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson!"

  • When i was 13 yrs old i memorized the entire dialoque from this movie ...(jennifer) > "gee honey im sorry, that old witch should be boiled in oil ! " (neely)> "thanks jen....i had such big plans,i was going to take acting lessons and dancing lessons, now i dont even have a job, all i have is my dignity".....if Hollywood did a re-make : Neely O' Hara> Drew Barrymore/ Jennifer North> Jessica Alba/ Ann Welles> Anne Hathaway/ Helen Lawson>Meryl Streep...Sure Hit !!!

  • I love it - quelle HOOT!!!

  • I think she looks fine with her natural hair, it looks platinum blonde and she is very good looking, you have to remember this is when there were no enhancements so what you had when you were 60 was not ' touched up' with laser etc on the way

  • valley of the dolls is my fav book,i've read it 10 times at least! one of the bests!

  • a cult classic movie and one of the best scenes. goodbye pussycat. meow. you want it back? here it comes special delivery! priceless!

  • The director wanted Susan to wear a bald cap for this scene and she refused!

  • . . . so long granny ! i'll tell yah boyfriend not to wait ! >>> i cant get enough of this ! :-)

  • This movie, I am going to be fair, it was not made to be camp, but this is one of the most campy films of all time, In College we laugh, & much older laughing even more, this is one of those movies you go to & know all the words, saw it maybe 3 year ago in NYC where I live & we all just laughed, however the song is very beautiful by Dionne Warwick.

  • never seen the film but ive read the book twice and i thought it was really good!!

  • I love camp. :D

  • Ethel vs. Judy.

  • "I'll go out the way I came in", such class

  • I loved the gaudy, over the top movie and I had read the book. I saw it several times at release just to hear all these "memorable" lines. They are gems!Susan Hayward was the best choice after many considerations.

  • Susan Hayward replaced Judy Garland in this film and she had a few scenes, a cameo if you will, and she takes the screen by storm in the few scenes she has. Susan speaks one of her great lines of all time when she tells Patty Duke " I'll Go Out The Way I Came In"

This was Susan Hayward's first film at her old studio 20th Century Fox and the gave her a rousing greeting for her return with a studio Orchestra playing "If You Knew Susie the Way We Love Susie"

    RIP Great and Gracious Lady

  • What a raw slice of reality, rare for it's time! There is nothing camp or comic here-more akin to melodrama. Do see this film-a slap in the face at the glamorous world of entertainment circa mid '60's.

  • Haha! I love when Neely exclaims, "What about that? It won't even flush down the john!"

  • does anyone have the clip where Helen Lawson, say get her lawyer to tie some tin cans to her ass and run her out of town !!!

  • U mean you wouldn't like to suck on her nose?

  • her performance in The Miracle Worker is one of the best of all time. Certainly the best performance I've ever seen from a young person. She was a mess as she got older though.

  • BIG Hair!

  • I'M NEEEEELLLYYY O'HAAARRRAAAA!

  • First time I've seen this. The MAD Magazine satire in 1967 was so scathing that I didn't bother going...and 41 years later, I think they were right :)

  • This movie is outstanding on many levels. Buy it rent it do something, my goodness!

  • Can't. It's never been released on video in this country.

  • What a hoot!

  • "Neeley hasn't got that 'hard core' like me...!" (GULP...SLOSH! Hic!)! :-) I don't get it with Helen's wig! If her real hair fluffs out so perfectly in to basically the same style why didn't she just get a dye job?! };-)

Also, Annie's treck back to her homespun town..! How's she ever going to find someone to back-comb her up like that in the country?

    Love the clip!

  • at 2:08 is she saing "fags" or "bags"?

  • Patently 60s homophobic, the line is directly from nasty ole Jackie Susann's book; alas, Neely says "fag."

  • Thanks for clearing that up for me!

  • o noes! nawt tha F-werd! Honestly, it's just a word. No need to get so... offended about it.

  • No she said 'hags", as in "old hags".

  • It would've been fabulous if Judy Garland had done this movie, she was perfect for it.

  • Judy Garland was the first choice for the Helen lawson character however she was not well enough to perform.

  • "...Nothing can destroy her talent, but she'll destroy herself." sounds pretty prophetic of Britney spears. wow!

  • What talent??

  • XxpINK...xX...THAT WAS A QUOTE FROM THE MOVIE. I SHOULDA PUT THE TIME WHERE I FOUND THAT. IT WAS said in the movie and i thot it was pretty prophetic considering it was said in a movie way back in the 60's.

  • what talent does Britney Spears have? That applies to Judy Garland NOT Britney Spears. No one ever called Spears talented and now that she had a breakdown people are trying to compare her to Judy Garland? That pisses me off. She can't sing, can't act, she dances like a stripper, she's just nothing of substance. Atleast Garland had substance to her art.

  • ha Tigerlily21 calm down everything you said is TRUE No denyin dat. People are only comparing her to Britney because they are comparing THEN to NOW. Britney is all your generation has as far as a star goes. Back in da day Britney would have never stood a chance neither would any of the actors Hollywood has to offer theez days. The Hollywood Golden Era been gone since the 50's.

  • Or Lindsay Lohan. Or Miley Cyrus.

  • ohh man lindsay would be really good for this movie.disney would never let miley in this movie

  • my all time fave actress, and ive yet to see this movie :(

  • The movie was wonderful! Susan Hayward, Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, - all of them - were marvelous. Its all to true.

  • homeed...where's the rest of this? I want to see mo
