hey doc, i hurt my shoulder, i think its the rotator cuff, pain is coming from deep in the trap muscle, hurts when i bench press, when i have the arm out forward and try to lift up with a force holding it down, and the same when i have the arm bent 90 degrees against my trunk
@jkall37 Thanks for the question. I agree - by your description it sounds as if it is a rotator cuff type of injury however you also have to rule out neck related nerve issues as well. Be sure to have a chiropractic physician or physiotherapist evaluate you to see exactly what the cause is so you have a specific guideline as to how to proceed. Good luck.
Thanks for the video... Just wanted to confirm is this a good workout for people without any shoulder problems right now ....good prevention workout? thank you!
@raiseup151z Hi - thank your for watching our videos and for the question. Yes, these exercises are generally fine for anyone without shoulder problems. I generally use them with my patients as part of their corrective exercise and/or functional warm up before higher level patterns. I use them with my shoulder pain patients and individuals with dysfunction however that is after I know they are appropriate for them and they can perform them with no problems. Hope that helps.
hi Dr Evan Osar..i have an inflamed right shoulder tendon since 3 yrs but did not follow exercise from physio which is my fault thinking they were a waste of time but now i really want to get better...best exercises for me doc???..please.
@lionheart4214 Hi. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately I can not say what the best exercises are for you without begin able to evaluate you. Otherwise what I give you may actually hurt rather than help you. I would defer to your physical therapist as they have at least been able to look at you and see exactly what's going on with your shoulder. Sorry I can't be more specific. Good luck.
Depends on how unstable your joint is. It will take at least 3 months to get it pretty stable however that can depend on a lot of factors like how loose the capsule is, are there any labral or rotator cuff tears, and how much you have to do with it. Surgery should help stabilize it well. Prolotherapy has also shown positive result for loose joint capsules. Good luck and keep me posted.
2 months ago I got a major shoulder injury: a humerus fracture + rotator cuff ligament sprain. I started doing this hands-on-the-wall exercise some 10 days ago a couple of times per day, and this morning I realized that I was able to lift my arm to an upright position and slowly lowering it with practically NO IMPINGEMENT! I mean the humeral head now “ducks” under the acromion just in time to prevent the impingement from happening. I’d like to thank Dr. Osar for sharing. Blessings from Ukraine.
I just tried this and I seriously felt no pain. Where as the normal exercise I do, I feel like a squishy, and an awful popping sort of sound (even though its essentially the same motion!) thanks Dr. Osar!
I am still debating surgery or serious PT for my rotator cuff that makes my shoulder pop out of socket about once a year. I have honestly never done any PT, can it really help in place of surgery? It took 45 min to pop back in last week and was excrutiating pain.
@kshanafelt Thank you for the question. I would definitely have an evaluation by a trained therapist or chiropractic physician and if indicated, try P.T. first. Surgery can often be indicated for an over-stretched joint capsule however I would be real diligent about physical therapy prior to surgery to improve motor control of the rotator cuff. Good luck.
