Do you recommend a particular tool to do a side folding stock conversion with a Izhmash 100 series stock? I need to get the new rivets in but I'm not sure what kind of tool to get to do it.
I completely demolished a rear trunion on a romy kit once. I couldn't avoid it. The rivets would not come out, hell or high water, period. I ordered a replacement and the rivets practically fell out of the damned thing for me.
@vcaldeira You didn't see the end where I used the vise and a workbench to tap out what was left of the long rivets? I do that on a block of wood because I don't want to mar the parts
I drill holes into the rivets but I do not go all the way through. Then I put a punch into the hole and punch them out. This works for the long rivets as well. Once the long rivet has been punched in enough I switch to a larger punch that is bigger than the hole and easily punch the entire thing out. Just another way of doing it. Great videos!
Why don't you just drill off the heads with a drill press and punch them out.. Could have done all this in two minutes. You risk elongating the holes by tapping the sides.. Just some friendly advice.
Once the rivets are drilled out the rivet is going to cave in a little, there is not enough strength in the rivet, nor am I tapping hard enough to elongate the hole. I've actually seen trunnions cracked at build parties from people try to tap them out whole. The rivets expand in the bore very tightly when they are upset.

You need a vise and workbench... otherwise you
will be struggling with getting those rivets.

Check out the rest of the videos. It should become apparent.

how would you go about removing the front trunnion rivets without removing the barrel? Just drill them out? This question is for a screw build.

I wish I'd come across your videos last month. Lotz of great info here though. Heck, you took 7 minutes on this step. I spent an afternoon...

I make it look hard :D. They usually aren't this bad.

what size punch did you use on the rear trunion? Mine is being very stubborn and doesn't want to let go of the rivets.

3/16. Drill them with a 9/64 bit first.
