Great car. The best in class if you are looking for the highest standards in technology, reliability, ride, luxury, comfort and refinement. However, there are no bad cars in this class. Choose whichever brand makes you happy. Try the Audi for a sportier approach, the Jag for style and character or the Maserati for individuality (but you must be tolerant of its foibles). The Merc and BMW are outshone by the Lexus in their strongest areas IMO, but are still very fine cars.

Its nice, but there really is no comparison to a loaded S550 or the new 750li. I recently purchased a 2010 LX570 and, while it is quite, relatively comfortable, and great off road, its no Range Rover. The interior "wood" scratches really easily and most of the wood looks like shit now after just 10k miles. The interior looks bulky and cheap. The main reason I bought it was reliability and resale (both far better than any merc/bmw) The LS (like all Lexus models) suffers from the same short falls.

Actually to all you German owner's in a little while ur going to have SERIOUS problems with your cars (Talking to BMW and MB). My cousin has a 7 series and it always has problems. BTW MB doesnt make trucks they make SUV's. Also a Lexus is the most dependable of the three. In my opinion they also feel better than the others. Even look better (except the BMW M6)

There's no real way of telling how many looks a car gets over another. Quality is the only arguement that Lexus fans can use against German cars. But the days of terrible Mercedes build quality (1999 - 2005) are slowly dissipating. CR says so with their data.

Not to mention the new Hybrid engine being fitted to the car for the first time.

The new 2008/2009 Mercedes' are getting rave reviews claiming that the old days of terrible build quality are over. You want to talk satisfaction? A friend of mine owns a 2007 Lexus RX350 and says that he has to book service checks 2 months before, and that Lexus didn't even offer him a courtesy car. He calls it a complete hassle. I can see why, too. Inexperience leads to customer disatisfaction.

My friend drives a 2007 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition, and it has electronic issues. His radio would suddenly freeze, and the buttons became useless. He had to pull over and turn off the ignition to fix it.

I drive a 2008 MB C300, and I've had no problems. Just the occasional light bulb replacement and checkups.

Toyota knew that they could only beat Mercedes with lower prices. Too bad the S-Class still far outsells the LS, despite these electronic problems you claim it has.

The BMW and Mercedes are not the "competitors" for this car, although they are always pitted against it. Lexus is a pure luxury brand while Mercedes and BMW quite plainly advertise themselves as sport luxury. The most direct pure luxury American competitor to Lexus is Cadillac, and they are moving more into sport luxury. This leaves Rolls Royce and Bentley which Lexus has beat hands down.

Also the AWD comes with a 357 HP engine instead of 380 HP that comes with the RWD.

Obviously AWD consumes more fuel if you care about gas consumption, though I think I would care less about how much gas it consumes if I paid $65K+ on the car!

I have a 08 LS460. It's worth every dime paid. One of the best investments I've, and possibly will have, ever made. Though gas isn't an issue as I'm from Saudi Arabia where gas prices are fixed at 60c/gallon for 95 octane gas and 45c/gallon for 91 octane.

for as far as i know lexus should take a look at volvo as it has to do on savety.. on that level is volvo the best... al as far as i know on the most points lexus is since its birth the best car on earth ( not the fastest car not the most beautyfull yet and not the most versitile like mercedes, toyota and other brands )but the best luxury car that was and still is way before his time.point blanc, hands down!!

It is not about Europe or Japan, it is about building amazing cars. Lexus does it. If the S class or 7 series was like an LS, I would surely praise it. Auto park, lane assist, lasers!!, and 1000 more features that Mercedes and BMW does not have. The interior is detailed and beautiful. Evidently the LS is the best car, plus 10k less. It has the name and the game.
