  • One small correction to the poster. I'm a movie soundtrack buff so I had to say that this song was originally used in the movie The Insider (1999).

Nonetheless thanks for posting. Santaolla's work is fantastic.

  • TOPGEAR GOT ME HERE !!!

  • Cactus at the end looks like it's giving us the finger

  • Ha olhe !

    compositor!

    everton lima

  • fuckin road agents

  • I wish I lived in a place like deadwood. hardly any laws, just do your thing day by day.

  • This song played during a 24 scene too with Jack Bauer doing his thing, it was really tight.

  • @alexjr28 holy crap i thought i was the only one that knew that! LOL. good ear. props to you sir!

  • I just stumbled on this video randomly......and now I can't stop listening. Simply amazing composition.

  • When i hear it, i think of Death, Loneliness, and a never ending desert :D

  • @assphinktersaiswhat So when you hear of it you think about.... life?

  • @MrIzo56 Tiz a rather depressing way of looking at it but yeah, sure :P

  • I love this piece of music. My first trapeze solo was to it and I still get goose bumps when I hear it. Amazing piece of music :)

  • @ur2hotgurl Bloody tedious, isn't it? I'm all for people speaking their minds, but not *everything* is about politics, not *everything* is left vs right. I'm tired of it, it's ruining everything.

  • iguazu is a city of the Misiones Province in Argentina, famous for the falls (with the same name) CATARATAS DE IGUAZU.. and the ground or soil is red..

  • It also sounds in "The Insider" by Michael Mann

  • hermosa...

  • i love the world and all life thats in it

  • @ur2hotgurl Hate is good, keeps the world spinning. You know what i hate? Well, let me tell ya,........

  • @ur2hotgurl don't question it. it will only lead to more arguing.

  • There is no such thing as a real american. Unless you have red skin.....

  • @KevLancaster1 did you know the majority of english people are descended from saxons, danes, and the french? and that french, in turn, are mostly descended from germans? are englishmen not real englishmen? is there no such thing as a real south american? every western country on earth was founded by invaders. what's the arbitrary number of years an invading people has to live in a country before they're "really from that country?" 500? 1000?

  • peace from mississippi.

  • such a moving piece of music

  • @ur2hotgurl hhahahahaha squabbling lmaoo nice

  • imagine the irony if any of these guys from the old west could imagine us 150 years later sitting at our computers, having this wacky device they don't understand show us images of them and pictures of the west and this beautiful guitar music.. it's better now in some ways but progress is a double edged sword

  • One of the most beautiful, thought provoking pieces of music I've ever had the pleasure to listen too. Incredible.

  • Beautiful...

  • Awesome song :) :) :)

  • fantastic video and information, simple but nothing short of brilliant

  • The song; Iguazu from Santaolalla, is a original song from the Santaolalla album; "Ronroco" (1998) and used in various films and series; 24, The Insider, Babel, Deadwood, is great song !!

  • breathe life in...

  • Finally found this music! Forgot it was off Babel, I remember it more from The Insider. Better film too

  • This music elevates my soul

  • @ur2hotgurl that's why i love youtube dude

  • 2:08.....amazing music....

  • Mesmerizing and hypnotic

  • "Pain is universal .... but so is hope." Tagline of the movie Babel, which in some magical way, is what this melody says to me..

  • @ur2hotgurl who could have said that better? its truly deplorable.

  • Fantastic music...

  • viva latinoamerica carajo!!

  • "Amores Perros" is probably the best of Iñárritu's 'Death Trilogy'. But Babel has "Rinko Kikuchi"! :)

  • where can i get this music for free please someone!!

  • Bardzo piękny utwór :)))

  • This was the soundtrack of "the insider" before it became the soundtrack of "babel".

  • @halfcolombian72 Deadwood too

  • @halfcolombian72 and the DEADWOOD DVD

  • wooohow.. this is the wonderful soundtrack of Babel...

  • Eventually all these beautiful landscapes will be owned by Walmart. Welcome to fucking America.

  • @darkmachete ..china owns wal-mart..

  • @darkmachete No kidding man. Money, thats the only word in the dictionaries of this corporate bastards and the people that buy their stuff.

  • @darkmachete Its the same in England. The recession is tearing the heart out of local business and huge multinationals and property developers with massive reserves of cash are loving it cos they can buy all these poor fuckers failed business properties for peanuts. The Typical british pubs are all going bust and being bought and turned into apartments or Tesco stores. Terrible

  • @KevLancaster1 I'm starting to see more and more that "free market" means that the powers are free to exploit the dumb masses.

  • Ol' Geronimo looks like he's gonna take that rifle an shove it up yer hoo hah!

  • I thought it had a more dramatic feel to it in THE INSIDER with russell crowe

  • It's something really special about this song, it's so mystical, and yet so beautiful at the same time.

  • Has This American Life ever used this song? I know I've heard it but I've never seen any of the movies mentioned in the comments.

  • its the soundtrack of "the insider" before babel

  • @xLUCASANx

yes but Amores Perros was before the Insider

  • this was also in the first season of 24 a little bit

  • This is quite beautiful. Thank you.

  • Excellent. Been searching for this song for years!

  • really suited deadwood when i first heard

  • its in the insider too, great song

  • @dontreallycare1

yeah I loved that scene in the insider

  • Ahh I first head this on the pilot of 24, have searched for it for ages! When the different set of chords come in, this is just so beautiful...

  • Great movie, great music composion.

    5 stars

  • I became aware of this beautiful piece of music because of 'Deadwood'.

People will always fuck each other up,it's in thier nature..and if you see Johnny Burns..tell him he is NOW in trouble....anything less would send the wrong message to the whores...

  • There is no need to fight Yes it did appear in Babel first Yes it was on The Insider It is a Charango Not a Mandolin Type in "Gustavo Santaolalla On Wikipedia O.K.?
  • This is from The Insider.

    Dead Can Dance.

  • Charango from Perú

  • es como agonizar

  • the instrument is called charango, and it's tuning is different than the guitar.

  • how well put ....evokes images of desolate landscapes and hard faces of the 19th century American west...

  • this was used in the insider, thats why i was shocked to see babel up for original score- very strange the academy missed this....

by the way, it's not a mandolin ONLY, it's mainly a charanda, a peruvian guitar-like instrument.

  • trop belle

  • Ehh yes

  • First used in The Insider (Michael Mann - what else to say)

  • Ehh no.

  • Wrong, dipshitz.

  • Fantastic video, really! Good job, thanks for posting, 5 stars.

  • MUY BIEN!!!!

  • I think this was used in Babel or maybe even Jar Head?

  • Also used in HBO's Deadwood, after Bill Hicock's death.

  • This was also used briefly in a season 1 episode of "24"

  • Guitarra Acustica & charango

  • Wow

  • charango!!

  • Is this banjo?

  • No acoustic guitar I think.

  • Mandolin.

  • A mandolin. I originally thought it was a banjo.

  • insider-soundtrack

  • Welcome to 5 years ago.

  • Its originally from "The Insider" OST too... which was out before Babel.

  • i love this track :P

  • it's like ... "babel" soundtrack

  • amazing music

i heard it on a sky news advert about

    the future of afghanistarn

really touches you in a way

  • santaolalla, wow, what a great magnifecent musician,he knows how to deliver...loss of words, simply beautiful

  • Anybody know who the guy at 3:23 is (was)? Guy is a dead ringer for Robert Downey Jr - same eyes etc. Freaky.

  • Comment removed

  • You re right! amazing!!!!

  • @xenophonia How could you not even guess it is Buffalo Bill prettty obvious man

  • great, always when it was played in the deadwood season!

  • Wasn't this used in The Motorcycle Diaries? Or does a lot of Santaoalla's music from the film evoke the same feelings?

  • No it isn't from the motorcycle diaries XD, but yes, it sounds very similar.

  • Makes me want to go for a long drive

  • does anybody know the name of the song that always gets played in the show when shits about to hit the fan? its a fantastic little blurp.

  • Funny. You just cheered me up!!! Thanks!!!

  • Quannah Parker =D

A big indian chief of XIX century.

  • your interpretation is a nice one. As for me, it evokes a feeling of desperate solitude. Not of a desolate place, but a place full of people where not a second glance is given to passer-bys. A place where people neither talk nor interact even though they must function together. Santaolalla piece is spot on with the film.

  • same music in "insider"

  • god I love this song makes me think of the poor children who live on the street in the filipines.

  • file....

  • pes ta re pes ta...

  • this melody make me sentimental feelings

    ....sory 4 bad english.

  • this song is so badass

  • Hahaha... ok, if you said that..., however i like the Iñarritus's trilogy... maddening.

  • sombody understood fravian23... i have no idea..., well..., is an opinion, i think so...

  • fravian23 is saying that a stupid jurnalist in greece said that babel is gorgeous but the soundtrack wasn't so good. i agree with fravian23 who thinks that the music for the movie is a masterpiece. great movie great music. greatings from greece

  • I'm sorry about my greeklish but i prefer to write my comments in my language..because there's some greeks who don't speak english..and clearly have no prob with yours language...

  • Don't worry dude, if is your language it's ok. Just, I 've never read or seen greek language... it's the first time i think so.

But, it's curious because my first language it's spanish... haha... youtube is like "Babel"... take care bro. Orgullasemente de Mexico, Yo soy. in fact, pretty good madenning Movie. Desesperante, me gusta la trilogia de Inarritu, hay que esperar las siguientes propuestas... have a wonderful day fravian23.

  • Gustavo Santaolalla , i have heard the best soundtracks in the world by you.

    Thanks for the good music

  • great video, i loved it....

  • fab song; fab clip

  • Beautiful in everyway, perfect listening for this Easter holiday and reflecting on God giving his only son to this world in Jesus, who was crucified and was risen again...

  • well you're a nut then aren't you...

  • Lunatic? I'm not going to argue here, but before you go calling one Christian a lunatic, you must realize there are about 2 billion of them on this earth. You run into plenty of them every day, but because this guy says it on the internet, hes a lunatic.

  • A little over-zealous.

  • if only we could "run into them." Might make things a little more fun. :-p

  • it would brighten up my day thats for sure

  • dont fight,, be nice to each other

  • beautiful and mesmerizing

  • Iguassu is the name of a river here in Brazil, the name of my city is Foz do Iguaçu (Iguassu), and we have the Iguassu Waterfalls.

  • Very evocative; a perfect pairing of music and imagery. Good work.

  • The video and the music are in perfect match.

    Love it.

  • 1:19

That was my relative Charlie Utter (Right) At Wild Bill Hickocks grave. He was a very faithful companion of Wild Bills.

  • great movie,great song.

  • this is a masterpiece!!

  • I think this is unbelievable, great piece of music

  • ZeroGFilms is right, this song does portay a lot of lucid images of the desert hills, desolate flat plains and every social geographic ethnicities living in these pictures...and hey, maybe Gustavo Santaolalla wanted this effect like in the movie when the lady, sorry I don't remember her name, is deserted in the empty but beautiful sands of the desert with the two kids Babel is an awesome movie! Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Santaolalla, two great genius', come together and produce a brilliance

  • Being an Arizonian, I see these images almost everyday. The song does have that Tombstone-ish feel to it. Photos of Native Americans on their treks across the desert and cowboys all come to mind when I hear this song. You've nipped the feelings it conveys in the bud. Not a bad movie either, Babel.

Mr. Santaolalla is by far one of the greatest composers of our time.

  • Its also in the series Deadwood...amazing series!!

  • 2:08 - I can feel all the existing feelings at once when this part come in, goosebumps

  • I loved the movie "Babel" this piece was in;beautiful and sad;gave me chills during the movie and still;soulful

  • Except us yankee Americans, right? Your a racist piece of shit.

  • 1:32

  • Brilliant film, brilliant soundtrack. Just absolutely brilliant. :D

  • at 1:34 starts to become so beautiful is peaceful. wow this man is an angel

  • guys.. expierence the whole movie Babel. Santaolalla wons twice Oscar award.. hi's an argentinian musician. Iguazu is a big river at north argentinian area.. border with Brasil and Paraguay..(Iguazu Falls) maybe it was his inspiration for this hudge song. Iguazu means Big Water in guaranian spicking.
