@Hilarousmoments the video skips really fast from taking off to landing sometime around the time you have on your comment. the pilots are still gaining altitude thus needing the flaps to be active still. Also the same flaps are needed to help create a little lift for the landing segment of the trip
wow its very nice me likey flight from atlanta to honolulu fast fast only 8 minutes very fast plane no slowing down big motors with fast pilot i likey very much
The americans goes, "less is more"and "sleek is beautiful" "It´s the design that counts" "appearance is everything" bla bla bla. The Europeans; Who gives a shit!?! Either you pull the weight or you don´t. Either you carry the most numbers of passengers in the air or you don´t. How you look while doing it... who cares!?! BIGGER IS BETTER and MORE IS MORE.
The airbus sometimes appears to be a bit overweight in its aesthetic appearance..when compared to the 747. I was hoping that boeing would have designed a new larger aircraft with the same slender aerodymanic multideck cabin to compete with airbus...instead the came up with the very spacious 787..Hey 787,747, airbus a380 all good for the airline industry in my oppinion.
Ya know, I think the 747 is still the Queen of the Skys. I mean, the A380 is big and all, but its pretty ugly. The 747 is just COOL. It looks unbelievably cool, and its fun to ride on, i've ridden on both, and the 747 is just the coolest airplane in the world. :)
Too bad this service didn't last long. Delta switched to the A330 for ATL-HNL. My niece did get a chance to ride the 747-400 from Atlanta to Honolulu in the Upper Deck. She thoroughly enjoyed the service and the seat!
@weatherboi I believe it is blocked at 8.5 hours but can take longer based on Headwinds. I remember a long time ago it taking something like 10 hours on an L1011-500 when they used those for the non-stop ATL-HNL
Yeah... seemed like overkill just for a simple short hop....that being the gas hog 747...yah think? It's best duty now as a freighter and the very very long routes filled with people and better profit enterprise of as a freighter.
why fly such a monster? is that not what a more econonical to operate777 or lightly loaded 767 ER for the 4,500 miles ? Seems like a waste of money and machinery?
@505stealth They don't operate the 744 on this route at the moment, but they did because at the time the route was very high density, passenger levels have dipped a bit though.
@505stealth They use a A330-300 on this route now. They use the 744's on routes to the asian markets, and high density routes on trans atlantic, like JFK - Tel Aviv
WELL done!! In 40+ years of flying, the 747 is the one major plane I still have not had a ride on. Haven't ridden on the A330/340/380, either but, I'd pass a ride on ANY of those aircraft for one in the 747.
@BoeingAviator211 Perhaps with the merger United will improve their inspections. Personally I have never flew on Delta and maybe someday I will have the privilege to.
@BoeingAviator211 I agree with what you said about mergers. There were so many airlines years ago. Now, not so many. Personally, I have a fondness for both United and Continental. I took Continental to my birthplace of Fiji years ago from San Francisco. And I took United visit my family in Australia. 9/11 happened while I was vacation, and when I flew back I was amazed at how, despite the emotions at the time, the flight crew was very professional with me, especially since I am Indian.
@BoeingAviator211 You don't like the current Continental livery? Personally, I don't. It's too bland. I liked the former Coninental colors with the meatball logo.
@bieasy I agree way more beautiful except for the old movie screens. otherwise will miss the 747-400's.. delta just painted the old NWA's.. why they cancel the 747 service atl-hnl? it was 10 hours flight time.
@buffey It is there main hub so dont really expect to see anything else but Delta lol, especially now with all the planes they acquire too from NW its crazy. Even leaving in NY close to JFK its crazy how many delta planes i still here too they do seem to be taking over. I think they have about every commercial aircraft in their fleet now besides the a340 and a380.
Sorry, but these former Northwest 747's were not the first 747's in Delta's fleet. Delta inaugurated 747 service in 1970 and flew them for a few years before retiring them in favor the Lockheed Tristar (L-1011). The L-1011 was also chosen over the DC-10, which also was in Delta's fleet for a time.
As a retired Continental Airlines employee (39 years), I have great respect for both DL & NW and flew them both a lot. But, Delta's service was superior. My vote also goes for NON-UNION!!!
@sandiegotrojandawg Had the privledge of flying on one of Delta's original 747's waaaay back in 1971 LAX-ATL.., then returned on a Pan Am 747, I understand they had a partnership agreement at one point. I remember when they repainted the Western DC-10's in Delta colors after their takeover in 86'-87'. I always loved the L-1011 spoolup sound...it was a low rumble and then just almost disappeared at rollout....... mmmmmm!!!!
Delta Air Lines/Northwest service sucks so bad. That 747 is horrible and they have nothing compare to United Airlines service. UAL 747-400 and all remodeled with the International Premium Travel Experience product and brighter newer interiors.

@bryanb16th You've got to be kidding me right, you eally think that ATL-HNL is like a short hop? Yes it is considered within the 50 US states, however, it is an International flight in flying time, it takes 9Hrs and 40Mins ATL-HNL, same as ATL-FCO or ATL-FRA, so in theory, this is a domestic flight, for an International route, so a wide body is perfect for this type of flight...
maybe you can corrected if I am wrong but I heard that Delta airlines is getting Panasonic eFX AVOD in coach for domestic and international use is that true? I hope it is because I am traveling to florida for cruise in may and my flight is almost three hours.
The first time my girlfriend ever went on a plane it was on a 747:400, from London to Mexico City. She loved it. I hated it. I used to love flying, but am now terrified. And it was a rather long flight.
I used to do a lot of plane watching from the east end of the north runways in the 80s - we only had one 747, a KLM scheduled in/out of Atlanta! Nice to see them in Atlanta skies again - not only these Deltas but also several cargo carriers.

I used to do a lot of plane watching from the east end of the north runways in the 80s - we only had one 747, a KLM scheduled in/out of Atlanta! Nice to see them in Atlanta skies again - not only these Deltas but also several cargo carriers.

I want to fly on a Delta 747 as that is one aircraft I have never been on. What destinations from ATL does it fly to?

@billfish6244 The 747 flies from Narita japan or to honloulou

Seriously, the 747s look peculiarly similar to the new United paint schemes.
