  • Finnish is a funny language! Let's all speak Finnish! XD you're so sistiiä :P

  • Nice job and what a cuteee voice *____*

    greetings from Brazil =)

  • @Sulkasiipi Olet tehnyt erittäin hyvää työtä! :D

You have made very good job! :D

  • Ei pahalla, mutta itse suosin sanakirja . org. Se perustuu suomen- ja englanninkieliseen Wikisanakirjaan, mutta mielestäni se on luotettavampi kuin esimerkiksi Google Kääntäjä. Ja se tukee monia kieliä. :)

No offence, but i prefer myself sanakirja . org. It is based on the Finnish and English Wiktionarys, but in my opinion it is more reliable than, for example, Google Translator. And it supports many languages. :)

  • google translate is better=google kääntäjä on parempi

  • Ä is like in ''cat'' and Ö is like in ''curl''

  • @Centaurian0190

Yeah, I don't think there's a short version of Ö in English. The sound in "cat" is just as ä in King's English, but always remember that Ö is just as short. "Ea" in "Earth" I've used, but it's just as short as "cat." And if you don't pronounce the words with the right vowels, you might get misunderstood. Long vowels and consonants are doubled in writing, so "tuli", "tuuli", and "tulli" are wholly different words with wholly different meanings. Fire, wind, toll.

  • @Simpson654 THERE'S ALSO THE FINNISH LETTER Y, THAT SOUNDS LIKE "EW" IN FLEW OR SOMETHING LIKE THIS, THE LONG Y IS "YY"

  • Tää o joku Astrid Thorsin tytär saatana.

  • oisko se where are we going TO?

  • "Se on ollut kammottavan groteski matka inhimilli sydden tuolle puolelle,ja sehan on hienoa se."

    ?????Does anybody know?

  • plase, what is different between 'mikä' and 'mitä'? Thanks a lot!

  • @kerilie

Mikä = What <- When referring to some physical subject or thing that has happened: What is this? Mikä tämä on?

Mitä = What <- Used in non-existing subjects as "What did you say?" "Mitä sanoit?"

  • Hei! Minun nimeni on Ben. Asun United States =D. My father is Finnish and I'm trying to learn his parents language! Thank you!

  • I'm from Finland and I am looking here for all "learn Finnish" videos :DD

    Jeah, Sulkasiipi, oot paras.

  • i like sulkasiipi

  • so if someone was to ask you "how are you?" (kuinka voit?)

how do you respond? like how would you say im good (or im well) or whatever would be common to say.

  • @themickerman

    you can say:

    (Minä) Voin hyvin

  • @mivanar kiitos!

  • @themickerman

Ihan okee <- With slang would I say ^-^''

Entä sie? <- How 'bout you?

  • @AdminGoogolplexian

    Thanks!

  • Hehe I love (rakasta?) watching these videos! They're actually helping. :) Kiitos!

  • Saatanan Saatana!

  • tök jö ez a video, el is vette jól a kedvem a finn megtanulásától, bár nekem valamennyivel egyszerűbb is lenne mivel rokonnyelv

  • awesome video.... it's very creative!

  • Im already in PAR 4. I love this language, so cool.

  • how old are you???^^

  • Hi like.,......kiitos!

  • Heeeeeeee!!! Post it!! Smile... Kuka minä olen? Minä olen Heike ja minä olen saksalainen.. is this good?????? And now,.. post it!!! Perkele!!! Laugh!!!!

  • M inä olen Heike ja minä olen saksalainen... is this good???? smile

  • Tämä on maailman ihanin kieli.

    Puhutaan suomea kaikki! :)

  • I thought When was Kun

  • @totallyspytrue It is , too. Like:

I like it when you dance = Pidän siitä kun tanssit

When are we leaving? = Milloin me lähdemme?

  • totallyspytrue - I learn finnish so if i gues well ˇˇkun ˇˇ isnt in question but in the reporting sentence... It is same like in czech language

    so... when=kun and when?=milloin

    i think...

  • You rock men,Thnks you finnish boy

  • i love your videos sulkasiipi. ive looked a little bit for other finnish stuff and its really hard to find.

my grandma speaks finnish and i wanted to ask her "how are you?" How do you say that?

  • How are you=Kuinka voit

  • Thanks!

  • Tuntuu oudolta kun muut kuin suomalaiset tulevat sanomaan että suomenkieli kuulostaa oudolta tai että suomalaiset sanovat että englanti kuulostaa oudolta kun itsestään tuntuu että kummatkin ovat kuin äidinkieliä itselleen. :D

  • oh,Finnish accent is just so cute ^^

  • I must say, I appreciate you teaching Finnish. I also must say, your voice is very cute.

  • 01.15 >> Vitun hienoa, ja sitä paitsi "when" tarkoittaa myös "kun" ;-) että *vink vink* vitun idiootti

  • welcome and thank you

    you can say tervetuloa

and thank you is kiitos or kiitti

  • (may i ask) what's the difference between kiitos and kiitti?

  • Kiitos is more like proper finnish that you use in books or when you hear older people say it,kiitti is more like a casual thanks.

  • kiitos = thank you

    kiitti = thanks

  • how do you say your welcome and thank you?

  • Thank you = Kiitos

    You're Welcome = Ole hyvä

  • I think "Why" is missing from the question words. Is it special or was this just a mistake?

  • Oh.... You're the only one who has noticed. That's a mistake. Why is MIKSI

  • @VinegarEater

"Kui (varte)", "mink tähre" in the south west, "miks, miksi, miten vai", etc. in the east. Anyway, people will settle for "miksi" all over Finland because it's the standard. Having lived only 250km away from my hometown in mid-Finland, they did not understand "kui" there. Well, they did understand it as a silly word for "why?" and when I asked "kui varte?" they held back their laughter and said that it's Turku dialect.

  • Yeah let's all speak Finnish!:)

  • äääksdeeee XD

  • thank you!!! :D

  • hey thank you for these videos, ive learned some cool things. Btw, how do you say "you're welcome?" when someone says kiitos??thank youuu

  • Olen hyvä!

  • "eipä kestä"

  • welcome = tervetuloa

you're welcome = is maybe "ei miitän

im not really sure about the last word(s) but some1 with a little bit better skillz can correct me if im wrong

  • thank you = kiitos

    you´re welcome = eipä kestä/ ole hyvä

  • Thank you is = Kiitos. paljon kiitoksia, kiitti or kiitoksia.

  • But what's the difference between eipä kestä and ole hyvä ? There is a circumstance for use eipä kestä and not ole hyvä (and inverse) ?

  • eipä kestä is like "no problem" and ole hyvä is "you're welcome"

  • When someone says kiitos, they say "ei kestä".

  • kiitos paljon sulkasiipi!!!

  • Thanks for the website. It's really useful :)

  • kuka minä olen ?repsxD

  • Oletko hävettää olla suomalainen, koska ihmiset eivät tiedä mitään maassa?

  • Love you girl!!..

    tihs is really fun...

but at the same time.. is helping me.. hehe... XD

  • I think "how" is KUINKA, but I'm learning too, so I'm not sure :P

  • how can be translated either MITEN, KUINKA or MILLÄ TAVALLA

  • And what is "how" in Finnish? I am just starting to learn but I love it already because your videos make it less scary!! Thanks so much.

  • How could be kuinka or miten :)

  • Kuka on icelandic are defecate :)

  • You are so adorable, I love these vids

  • puhutaan kaikki suomea!

  • Sulkasiipi sounds sooo funny :D!!

  • tämä on hyvä niille jotka eivät osaa Suomea. Luulen, että suomen kieli on eräs vaikeimmista kielistä maailmassa.

  • se on toisiks vaikein kieli maailmassa

    (PS pelaakko YGOO?)

  • Mikä on YGO?

  • YGO= yugioh (offtopic)

  • En pelaa

  • tai luetko sitä (more offtopic)

  • Oikeestaan kolmanneks. : D

  • siis nää on hyödyllisii videoita niille jotka haluu oppii suomee..

  • its so great job :D I like finnish language :D

Kuka has got different meaning in hungarian...so this funny to hear for me :D

  • eipäs olekaan lällällää

  • Nice! I'm teaching my brother Finnish from your lessons. But could you speak slower please :)

  • I just saw that there was a mistake. Thank goodness I skipped that one to practice!

I understand the "minne olemma", but what is the root form of "menossa"? mena, meno? do tell.

  • mennä - to go

    menossa - is going

meno ..ehhh ^^'' straight translation could be something like "the goeness" x'D

  • How do you know when to use..Mika or Mita and Missa and Mista? You also forgot Kuinka in your short question words and a host others...but your video really helped me learn something. I am xchange student in Finland. Thank you.

  • I live in Hawaii and I'm learning. My friend and I are going to learn it so we can talk about things secretly.

  • Haha, I'm doing that, too.

  • 1:26 haha "kaikki" means "little boat" in greek duh! XD

  • love it! Kittos!

  • haista hevosen takapuoli!!

  • no haista ite xD

  • Siinäpäs on taas täysin järkevä riita täysin järkevästä asiasta vai mitä?

  • you are the best, i love your language

  • I love finnish!

  • Ei tullut mieleen, että tämä on kirjakieltä mitä opetetaan?

  • ei kirjakielel enää pärjää suomes.

  • Damn it, all these people speaking perfect finnish is making me jealous!! x'D

    But I'm practising.. :p

  • In Finland when we ask How much time is we can say "Paljonko kello on?", bu we use also "Paljon kello on" "Mitä kello on" it's just slang that we finnish people use don't let it bother you. just like "I" in finnish is "Minä" but we use also "Mä"

  • the difference between how u sa a and ä is so little :S

  • I dont think so ... Example: Run. "u" is finnish "a" in there. Then fast. "a" is the finnish "ä" in there. Theres a BIG difference.

  • im trying really hard, but Finnish is a really hard language to pronounce. I really want to learn it though and this is so useful, thanks a lot!!!!

  • that´s a good idea!!

    sulkasiipi, kiitos!!

  • what is the difference at the end? in the first sentence it says "suomi" and in the second it says "suomea". finnish really is a funny language...(:

  • Suomi is basic form of Finland. Suomea is used when we refer to it... "I love Finland!" = "Minä rakastan Suomea!" but we have so many suffixes to words that its really hard to master them.

But don't worry... why understand it perfectly if you just say "Minä rakastan Suomi!"

  • ahh, so many cases! anyway, kiitos! :)

  • opps, i used my sister's account.

  • you are the gratest!!!:) :)

  • your just jealous. Bet you wish you spoke finnish

  • Kittos

  • *hugs* Kiitos

  • Pretty damn handy!

    Thanks!

  • eiko.......

Dude, Im begining to like finnish now......

    Im gonna hug you sulkasiipi

  • sun ääni on kyl aika magee ;-)

  • Are "paljoa kello on?" and "paljonko kello on?" the same?? I spent years saying "paljoa kello on?". Hahahaha

    Kiitos!!!

  • Paljonko kello on? and Paljon kello on?

    It is the same !

Paljo(a) kello on? We understand this but to get it right you have to change a to n.

  • Paljon kello on? Uhh, thats not actually right.. It means the same as "Clock is much" xDDD

  • It has a different meaning in Finnish, I think, so it's "Paljonko kello on".

  • Thats what I just aid -.-

  • You said "Paljonko kello on" isn't right. Scroll down and read the comment yourself. And besides, you thought it meant "Clock is much", which isn't right.

  • No I didnt , I saif "Paljon kello on" isnt right! XD You know, "Paljon kello on" means "Clock is much" which is really silly.. "Paljonko kello on" is right...

  • no it's just a saying which means what's the time. just like some english expressions such as "I'll pick you up at 7" have 2 meanings, but only one of them is logical, and correct.

  • I dont get your point... -.-

  • well that's too bad. all i'm trying to say is that "Paljon kello on?" means "What's the time?" even though it's literally translated "How much is the clock?" It's just the figure of speech, which sounds weird in foreigners' ears. assuming youre not finnish.

  • XDDD Ai etten oo vai?! Aatteli vaa et sehän ei oikeesti oo kieliopillista Suomee...

  • ai no jos oot suomalainen ni luulis et huomaisit ettei siin oo mitaa eroo sanooko "paljonko kello on" tai "paljon kello on".

  • No joo joo, mut siis eihän "Paljon kello on" oo mitää oikeeta suomee.. Se on kieliopillisesti Paljonko kello on, siis Paljon kello on tarkottaa niiku .. Paljon xD Sillee.. Paljonko on kysymys ja Paljon on vaa niiku tosi paljon.. vaikee selittää, mut anyway.. Vaik kumminki puhutaan Paljon kello on..

  • Kyllä menee pahasti metsään. "Paljon kello on?" on kieliopillisesti väärin. Kyllä se kysymyspartikkeli on pakko laittaa mukaan, jos haluaa oikein kirjoittaa. Ellei sitten halua käyttää jotain teinipissiskieltä.

  • Me Salolaiset sanomme "Kuim pal kello o?"

  • It has a different meaning. "Paljonko kello on?" is straight "How much is the clock?" but it got the same meaning as "What time is it?"

  • Yay, kiva kun joku opettaa suomea ulkomaalaisille, vaikka suomi onkin varsinainen aivontappaja hankaluutensa takia. 'D

    --

Yay, it's nice that someone teaches Finnish to foreign people, even if Finnish is a real brainkiller because of its complexity. 'D

    kiva = nice

    joku = someone

    opettaa = teach

I could teach Finnish via e-mail or msn messenger if someone is interested! BUT: you must speak English, I can't teach in german ect...

  • i am interested in this do you have a myspace or aim

  • When I was to FI in 1960, nobody knew English so I had my sanjakirja & FI learned from my mummo who left in 1902. I visited my penpal in Joensuu, she knew English. Her 2 friends didn't so I spoke my Finnish. They would laugh & giggle. When they left, I asked why they laughed. My friend said, "your Finnish is so quaint" so I'd been speaking pretty good 1902 Finnish.

  • Haha thats funny, I can understand Finnish when my mummo speak to me, I am tryin to pick up how to string sentences together and I am afraid of speaking like an old person.
