I can't believe all you young guys like this band so much. I was there when it all happened. Some friends of mine got into Joy Division so much it was scary: they got a very dark, hopeless vision of life, but they snapped out of it eventually, & thank God for that! Certainly one of the best bands ever. Investigate those who inspired Ian Curtis: The Doors, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground, Bowie in the 70s. This is stuff that changes lives. The power of Rock&Roll!
I'm 10 years old and I've loved this band. I mean it doesn't matter how long you've liked them.
My dad has always been a fan of joy division so he introduced me to their music once and it was a whole new sound of feeling that i had never heard before. I actually felt something hard in music for the first time listening to them
ive liked them for over 10 years now im only 21 but its not until the past 4 or 5 years i have realy liked them and my life is now almost based around what ian curtis wrote, i have yet to see the film control,i believe they have chosen control as the perfect track,it is amazing.wouldnt you just love to have been there and realy have seen him.
See, I got into them even later than that. I'm only 19; I wasn't even born until 8 years after Ian Curtis' death. Does that mean I'm not allowed to like their music? It's not necessarily a bad thing that more people are listening to them now. Although I live in America, so I still don't know anyone who has even heard of the band or the movie. It does kind of annoy me when people I hate like the same bands as me, so I can see how it might be annoying to others.
why do I know I wont like this film? too many fannies are listening to my favourite band and its pissing me off! Stick to coldplay and travis you cunts!!!!!!!!
actually i know what you mean... its the 'in' thing at the moment so you get all these trendy twats pretending to like Joy Division. I read a review by a supposed 'music journalist' who had apparently never heard of Joy Division, and described them as a shit copy of the editors!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!! whats the world coming to....?
Yeah it must be annoying if people pretend to like them because it's the cool thing to do, but I grew up listening to them through my parents and considering I'm 18, I probably liked them for less time than you have, but you can't say that everyone who hasn't liked a band as long as you isn't a true fan because I am. If someone that'd liked them longer than you turned round and said "you're not a fan, you haven't liked them for this amount of time" you'd tell them to jog right on.
I know what you're saying, but I was a fan of Joy Division here in the States while they were still playing and recording. A friend of mine had tickets to see them in Chicago. But then the bad news came and the tour was cancelled. I still enjoy the music though. Thanks Ian and you lot.
i know exactly what you mean. there'll be a huge revival of everyone jumping on the bandwagon claiming they've always loved them. it's so frustrating.
Why should you care who listens to what? It's still great music either way. Yeah, I'm not a fan of bandwagon jumpers either, but you shouldn't base your enjoyment of something on what others do.
I think the film looks great, and I can't wait to see it when I get home.
I found out about Joy Division through New Order, when I was 17. This was around '98 and everyone I knew had no clue who they were. I haven't been a fan as long as others have, or was I alive when they were around, yet I feel that I'm one of the original fans.
the Manchester showing at iMax gave away free signed copies of the soundtrack on vinyl... only 600 copies available and only at Manchester. Luckily i got one.... i will add it to the JD collection, Hokky and Steve Morris were there so a great night
it looked like nottingham at times...anyway why do you have tell people what youve done- youve lost control... brill film but i couldnt watch it again- Ian Curtis , Tony Wilson RIP
they film most of the scenes in Nottingham as most of 70s Manchester has long gone. 77 Barton Street where Ian lived was the actual house though as Ive been there many times
The most a trailer can apparently be is 2 minutes 30 seconds.

I hope they give Martin Hannett credit for his very great and defining production work....without him JD would be another Punk band....
