my tumbi and tabla arrived today. one thing i noticed though is that with my tumbi, the string is raised really high, and at the pitch it's supposed to be, it's too tight to push completely down on the thingy if u get my drift, and it kills the sound. so unless you have some tips, i'm just gunna have to stick to playing with for thimbles on my fingers haha! oh nd btw, im subbing.

yeah it may need to be restrung so that it is lower (lower is needed so you can push it down all the way).

I used to play tumbi, and if you wanna lower the string un wind it a bit, so it can be moved easily and put it closer the wood. Tighten it back up and tune it. Should be alot easier to touch down. Any questions just ask. :)

hah that's the fun of it... i didn't find it too difficult to learn, i was playing well within a month, but then my string snapped...... rofl. I got too excited while tightening it... I was like, "hey let's make the sound even more crisp", and then SNAP.

@ilovetoeatrice its probably cuz you dont press with your finger nail, but rather the bottom of your finger (the skin) therfore making a low sound, instead of producing a sharp/ crisp sound. :)
