Hey, is it possible to make form of a face and put silicone in that form? For example, when you have a sculpture of a head, and you sculpt another face over it, maybe a Goblin face. So when it is dry, you make a form with this sculpt and put the silicone later into this form?
@Seach94 Yes you can use silicon if your looking for a realistic texture, however it will be pricey. First fill it with expandable foam then cover it with silicon this will save a lot of money!
Hello, due to what anaarthur81 said about the alginate, this coment is based about, what if i wanted to used alginate and then pour plaster in the mold itself, then when its totally dry I will be placing Oil Based Clay on the plaster and start sculpting, would it be okay using alginate? Thank you.
@Sh8amer sing alginate will be fine, but remember it will become a waste mould which means once you pour your plaster into the alginate mould it will begin to shrink and become deformed which means only one cast can be casted from an align ate mould. If you plan on sculpting a creature (or what not) I would recormend using Monster Clay, which can be ordered online....
@Sh8amer ...This is a clay you can melt and pour into the alginate mould and then once you have the cast in the monster clay you can add more monster clay to sculpt the face however you may want it.
Then with the finished product in monster clay you could make a laxtex mould to make a face mask!! This can be complicated perhaps I should make a video on this!!
Hi! I love your work and everything related to fx. I have some questions, why did you do the mold with silicone and not alginate? does it give you more precision or you want to cast several molds? also, where do you get your products? I'm from Argentina so I would have to order online do you know a particular site? I would like to see all kinds of molds and the whole process of making a prosthetic with inexpensive products if you can. Thank you so much!
@anaarthur81@anaarthur81 Skye says: I used silicon because I'm able to make multiple molds, it also captures better details of the skin such as eye brows and skin texture. I get most of my supplies from my university. Other than that I order the supplies online at sculpturesuppliescanada(dot)CA. its the only site I've ordered from. I'm sure there would be one like this for you where they would have every type of moulding supplies.
@anaarthur81 I dont use alginate because its a waste mold - u can only make one mold from it, it is cheaper but that's because of the quality of details it picks up. If you ever make a silicon mould of any body part it HAS to be skin safe silicon, or else the model could get a serious rash, burn, and be locked in the mold.
I hope this helps & I'll make other body moulds with cheaper materials...is there any body part in particular? What type of product would u benefit from seeing?
@nkudashkina Thank you so much for replying and all the information you gave me, I appreciate it. Feel free to do whatever you please I know I will learn from anything you do. I would love to see how you sculpt your prothesis and all the prothesis-making steps. You can do different videos for one project, starting with the cast, filling the cast, sculpting, an everything in between until you put it on the model paint it, etc. I would LOVE to see that, if it's not too much to ask, thanks!!
