  • Texas is sure F...D up.

  • So Disnefy history? Cause that will prepare people for the real world? What?

I dont understand why she wants to filter the information given to the kids to only reflect america in a positive light? Isnt that by definition opposed to the idea of education?

  • I agree with her! At all costs avoid all references to genocide, ethnic cleansing of the continent, economy built on bond slavery, mass rape of black slave women, the annexing of anything annexable--Hawaii, Puerto Rico etc--the use of nuclear weapons against civilian urban populations, attacking other countries for Imperial gain but passing it off as some sort of "crusade"--ie vietnam, Iraq, supporting and actively assisting some of the vilest dictators on the planet. Yeah--too rough for kids!

  • What a cunt.

  • "Rift raft"? -________________-

  • And this is why most Texans are abysmally stupid, overly confident sheep with no desire to better humanity. I know, I live here, and I can't tell you how many times I've started a conversation with someone, anticipating intellectual discourse, only to be sadly disappointed.

By the way, I was self taught most of my life, and didn't attend school at all after age 13- yet I tend to know more about basic science, medicine, history, physics, and English than most Texans I've ever met. Red flag?

  • What about Thomas Jefferson??? Screw the morons in Texass. They want ID taught in schools too. What a bunch of low lifes. If they dont like history, they rewrite it. If they dont like science, they invent their own.

  • Our country is exceptionally retarded. This bitch is exceptionally ugly.

  • USA = Exceptional? Perhaps this dimwit needs to look at US test scores in math/science in comparison to other developed countries. Exceptional all right - exceptionally bad. And our general knowledge of history is pitiful as well, mainly because of the bland, uncontroversial, "cheerleader" textbooks - and the moronically ideological school boards who adopt them.

  • we learn from them, you know how we didnt listen to other countrys in pearl harbor? here came 9/11,..btw watch 9/11 loose change, great selection

  • Wow. She just, wasn't even subtle about it.

  • bitch.

  • she has no idea how much harm she's doing rather than good

  • The school board should have people who know what they are talking about. Say there are ten people in charge of deciding history standards. Have 4 of those people be historians/history professors, 4 be history teachers, and the other two can be whoever.

  • Out of the rough draft, umm, what rough draft? You mean REALITY?

  • you don't take negatives out of history, PERIOD! Has no one on the Texas board of education ever read 1984? You accept history for what it is, deal with, learn from your mistakes and make sure it never happens again. You don't just rewrite history to suit your needs and ideals! God damn fucking uneducated rednecks.

  • Removing the mistakes of the past from the history books would be an unforgivable crime against the people who suffered from those mistakes.

    "Why do we fall, Bruce?"

"Bitch, I don't fall! I sit down forcefully!"

  • The Texas board of Education ITSELF IS a negative in U.S. history.

  • how about we make public education unbiased lets just put history out on the table and lets not make it skewed by looking at it from one perspective

  • I can't believe these idiots get to decide what I learn.

  • This is just sickening.

  • american exceptionalism is bullshit. end of fucking story. this is an orwellian attempt by conservatives to rewrite history.

  • George Washington was right; we should never have turned to political parties to begin with. We already have news networks advancing their own political agendas through their chosen journalistic styles. We've got senators and congressman from both parties twisting the truth in unimaginable ways to try and mislead the public. And now even schoolbooks are no longer immune to the influences of partisan biases. Awesome. The extreme elements from both sides of the aisle deserve each other.

  • fffffffuuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkk ooooffffffffffffff

  • I love it how Americans truely think they are 'expectional'. The majority are 'expectionally dumb and fat'. I dont even class America as a developed country. It doesnt have a universal health care system and is still discussing do we teach science as fact or just stick with the 'truthfull' creationism.

  • FUCK OUR COUNTRY, its no different then the other places in this world, it is still HELL HERE!

  • I'm glad that the legacy of the brave, intelligent, and sober Joseph McCarthy is being redeemed. But let's not forget the completely rational Cotton Mather. His accusations were verified by the release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

  • History is usually written by the winner . "Education is what remains , after you forget everything they taught you in school" Albert Eienstien

  • The land was ripped off from the Indians ,thats glamorized by hollywood and not explained correctly in school. The Slave Trade was not correctly addressed in school when I went. The Robber Barons, Japanese Internment, American Imperialism,etc... There is a lot of good things about American History but also a lot of bad. Teach The Whole Truth ! Be Honest. Assholes.

  • Why not tell the God damn truth for a change.

  • They even mentioned propaganda! So let's edit history to really show to these youngsters the American exceptionalism that makes us so great!

    LOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Ok the Liberty Bell is nothing to be proud of, I mean for ****'s sake do we celebrate failure in this country? ... Don't answer that... But yeah the bell cracked on it's first ring, it was shoddily made, it'd be a joke like Yakee Doodle if it weren't so obscure.

I mean next thing you know they'll be celebrating our crushing defeat at the Alamo... Oh wait...

Well at least we celebrate Thomas Jefferson as a key proponent of the American Enlightenment. Oh wait, they're wanting to take that out.

  • This is just Taliban-Christian ignorance.

Whats the difference between a madrass vs a Texas school?

  • @Rata4You

    "Madrass" starts with M.

  • I agree that the US is exceptional, that is, the Christians in the USA are exceptionally ignorant.

Also, compared with other countries, US citizens are also exceptionally wasteful.

The woman in the video has hit the nail on the head.

  • I agree, the USA is an exceptional, amazing country, like my country, the UK. But, like my country, you shouldn't forget the negative aspects. It's called learningfor fear of repeating those mistakes. The USA is not a perfect sphere of goodliness free from critisism, nor is any other nation, and history should always reflect what ahppened: postmodern interpretationism has no place in high school history.

  • People from other states, please take note of this, we are not all this fucking retarded.

  • well prove it by changing it because this will affect 80% of students thoughout the US due to text book changes to appease texas...

  • @Rolynpwns

Out of genuine curiosity -- did you vote at all for school board members in whatever district you live in?

  • Stupid fucking Texas State Board.

  • It seems more and more like the fringes of both the political left and right are getting powerful enough to do very real damage to the fabric of our society.

  • @robman419

Let me know when another state's school board tries to "remove the positives" from U.S. history entirely. This is very one sided propaganda.

  • @flamingmonkey923

On this very specific issue I do not see the political left fringe posing a threat at all. Many other issues however I cannot say the same about. True universal healthcare for one.

  • I don't know whether to laugh my ass off or to facepalm in complete and utter disgust.

  • The second one :/

  • It's 1984. "Ungood. Doubleplusgood."

  • If u dont teach negatives u wont know the better way and guess what if u dont know the better way you wont know right from wrong repeat mistakes this is stupid so third world

  • Isolationism is what the US had before WW2.

    Propaganda was used in WW2

THESE ARE THING THAT HAPPEN . What in the hell, should we not talk about the bad thing this nation as done, hell propaganda and isolationism are not even really BAD. In the terms that she is making them out to be .

  • What they consider a negative is anything that isn't a positive for Republicans. McCarthy was a hero. Never mind that his wild accusations destroyed the lives of many innocent people.

  • We should just have a goddam federal school board that isn't elected and is full of fucking University professor. I'm willing to bet most of them have never taught a class in their life!!! We need historians, scientists, and people with legitimate knowledge to be running these boards instead of former male cheerleaders.

  • @testing88534 ..point well taken...why don't we question the background education and qualifications on these board members who have definative power over our childrens educational well being...We need to investigate who is electing these members and forcing these religious and political ideas...History should be tought how it was written..not how we wanted it to be...peace and one love...

  • Parts of American history are 'negative' and some of it is downright dark. Deal with it. Or are you going to stop teaching about slavery too? How about the genocide of aboriginals, too negative for you?

  • Generation idiots paving the way for the net ones to become idiots.

  • Let's not learn from our mistakes god forbid we try and fix our country

  • those words SHOULD rightfully be used cause they are TRUE!!!! not all things in any country's history is positive!! COME ON TEXAS - get an EDUCATION!!

  • keep history to historians! Make your kids dig people never just read one book.

  • How the heck does hiding the truth from the next generation benefit them? Isn't that a form of propoganda in itself? Geez... I don't even think I wanna let my kids study in the US if such a thing does happen...

  • What is scary is Texas more or less controls what kids all over America learn! How so? you ask. Easy. Texas is a major major purchaser of textbooks. Well, companies want to sell books such as "US HISTORY FOR 8TH GRADERS" so in order to get the big purchase from Texas, they will cater and bow down to what Texas wants. That means the whole country gets to "learn" what Texans want them to learn. Even if you live a thousand plus miles away.

  • Yes. I too often find myself wondering what life would be like if only more people in this country believed in American exceptionalism.

  • SEE?? This is why our highest offices (at all levels of government) should be filled only with learned scholars who have PhD's in CONSTITUTIONAL LAW, history, economics, sociology, the hard sciences, philosophy, and literature, or even theology.

Instead we've got a government full ignorant fools or arrogant corporate tools who sit stoned faced as their campaign contributors openly pillage our nation's wealth, sodomize any protesters, and mop up the mess with what's left of the constitution.

  • She wants to rewrite lessons in the book on how the US used propaganda because she thinks it gives a negative portrayal of this country...

Rewriting a fucking textbook because you don't agree with something it says IS PROPAGANDA!

  • Censorship in schools are just as reprehensible as other forms of censorship.

  • PROPAGANDA = SELECTED TRUTHS

  • This goes to the very essence that highlights the difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives only want to view America as perfect and flawless. Critism of America is considered as Hate of America. Liberals do acknowledge flaws, and want to use that as a path towards improvment. The healthcae debate is a prime example. Conservatives say we have the best healthcare in the world while liberals acknowledge that we don't and wich is why we want reform.

  • Wow, drank much of the propaganda Kool-Aid have we?

The only difference between "conservatives" and "liberals" (or more appropriately, given the tone of your comment, Republicans and Democrats) is how they view the government. Conservatives view it as beyond reproach while liberals view it as nothing but reproachable. Both think they are 100% correct in their beliefs, which is, in my opinion, 100% wrong.

  • Why don't we look at the health care debate. Republicans do say that we have the best health care in the world. This is a fact. When one looks at the objective measures of health care systems, one finds that America comes out at the top. Screening levels for cancers, CV conditions, and other chronic conditions: at or near the top in the world (even for the uninsured). Survival rates for cancers and CV conditions: at the top or near the top.

  • @bowenj10

But we near the bottom in comparison to other Industrialize nations when it comes to birthrates and life expectancy. We also have to endure disproporationately high bankruptcies in order to gain access to decent quality medicine.

The American medical system operates more like a serfdom.

  • When factors that are exogenous to health care are accounted for in calculations used to determine life expectancies, the rankings change dramatically. Unfortunately for you, the people who you're getting your information from (because I know that you don't know what you're talking about) don't like to talk about that fact. When people start using good economic analysis (versus bad economic analysis), your Republicrat talking points flounder in a sea of intellectual dishonesty and ignorance.

  • Hmmm, I wonder why my other comment didn't appear.

Anyways, some factors exogenous (do you even know what that word means?) to health care include murders, suicides, teen pregnancies, auto fatalities, obesity, and smoking - all of which exist at higher rates in the US than in almost all industrialized nations (except smoking, due to the simultaneous fall in rates here and rise in rates elsewhere). Other factors that greatly affect LE stats include prevalence of mass transit and diversity.

  • "Anyways, some factors exogenous (do you even know what that word means?)"

Get over yourself man, no one on here is impressed. Other than that, I could care less about your Limbaugh talk radio points. You're just an apologist for rampant corporatism which is no different than big govt.

Any entity that's allowed to grow out of control of the common person is an entity not to be trusted. These corporations encourage unhealthy lifestyles, & fools like you unfortunately refuse to see it.

  • Me: The sky is blue.

You: I don't care about your stupid Limbaugh talking points. You're just an apologist for rampant corporatism which is no different than big government.

Any entity that's allowed to grow out of control of the common person is an entity not to be trusted. That sun encourages unhealthy lifestyles, & fools like you unfortunately refuse to see it.

  • The fact is, you're just a fool who doesn't know anything about economics or statistics. Any statistics professor worth his salt will tell you that using the life expectancy statistics from the WHO, the CDC, or the CIA to gauge the quality of any health care system is at least a display of ignorance and at worst intellectually-dishonest for the reasons I listed above. You and your ilk who blindly follow the talking bobble heads on the TV are simply fools (and they know it).

  • Insurance companies - which sell insurance - encourage unhealthy lifestyles? Say it isn't so Captain Obvious!

The fact is, insurance and subsidies of ANY kind encourage unhealthy behaviors. When people are given an incentive to make decisions that they might otherwise not have made, they tend to do it because humans are rational beings (just like how millions of morons saw ads for cheap money (made possible by the Fed) and pounced, buying up bigger homes than they needed or could afford).

  • Insurance companies don't have to worry about unhealthy lifestyles; they simply weed out the people with pre-existing illness & genetic disorders. Try again, Sam.

Yeah maybe a lot of morons did buy homes that they couldn't afford but then again a lot of greedy companies prepackaged crappy sub-prime mortgages help them. Dude, you're just a political hack who hangs onto every piece of propaganda that Limbaugh, Hannity & the rest of the corporate apologists stuff down your throat.

    Boring...

  • I can give some examples of coporations encouraging unhealthy behaviors & conrtibuting to a poisonous environment:

    1. Automotive industry killing off the streetcar

    2. Housing Industry building sprawled out neighborhoods

    3. McDonald's & various other fastfood industries supersizing food & using transfats(Funny that it was Govt & pressure from health activist that force these corps to stop using transfat)

    4. Coal plants refusing to use smokestack to reduce air pollution

  • ..."smokestack scrubbers" I meant to say.

I can list many more vicious ways that corporations contribute to hazardous conditions for human beings, but hopefully you get my drift. But then again, maybe you won't.

Why are there so many men like you willing to drink the corporatism kool-aid I will never understand. I guess it will have to take you and/or your love ones suffering for pawns like you to open your eyes.

  • WHO rankings, life expectancy stats, infant mortality stat, prices, and coverage rates are NOT objective measures of health care systems. All have been blasted apart time and time again. The WHO rankings were VERY subjective (the US was docked points for the existence of HSAs). The life expectancy and infant mortality stats are distorted because of the methodology. Prices are distorted by Medicare and Medicaid and government regs and taxes and the Fed. Coverage rates are wildly inflated.

  • YES! WE NEED TO SPREAD AND MAKE THE ROOTS OF NATIONALISM PRESENT IN PUNLIC SCHOOLS!

    wOw...

  • This is the same stuff the Egyptians did. They would lose wars and claim victory in text, their economy would struggle and they would claim to be the most thriving civilization in the world. We all know how that ended up.

  • Lasted longer than we will.

  • Booo! Down with US Exceptionalism!

If you live in America and don't see Imperialism, you must have your head up your ass.

  • All I'm hearing is "Screw history, I want my boys to be fanatic patriots." We did go through isolationist periods, we did use propaganda. There is no reason to remove the negatives just because you feel it's not turning your kid into a good patriot. That's not the purpose of the educational systems...

  • OMG

id hate to be her kids right now, thats one stupid opinion!

  • Texas is insane

  • I LIVE IN TEXAS!!!.... YET I AGREE WITH YOU.... IS THAT SAD OR WHAT??? whats even more sad is that texas allows people like this to be on its board of education!!! Texas is BY FAR the worst education system i have even been in and iwas a military kid and went to school all over my country and texas like i said BY FAR the worst!!!!

  • It's sad to hear that.

I hate these dumb people (tx board of ed.) making it harder for society to progress.

  • Well I wonder if they are still telling the kids that George Washington chopped down that cherry tree. How about thanksgiving how the Indians saved the starving pilgrims, Only to make them healthy, then in return have the same people you saved there lives, take your land and the lives of all your friends and family, I bet if the Indians would have known the results, They would have never baked those Pumkin Pies, And Turkeys,

  • So, you believe in lying to kids. Same shit different day. We torture, murder, extort, hate non-white, lie, cheat, manipulate poison, take orders from "corporate persons" and thats just the country's government. This does not include the decision making abilities of the ignorant media (and public school)educated masses

  • by Columbus day she means genocide day, right? Good riddance. Celebrating Columbus day is like celebrating Hitler--he may have even been indirectly responsible for more deaths--we all know he didn't see the Natives as equal beings, nor did he "discover America"...America had already been "discovered", by both the Vikings and the natives residing there.

I'm not surprised however--this is the "board of education" that advocates teaching creationism in the classroom.

  • History should reflect the truth! To insist on dumbing down future generations is absurd.

  • American Exceptionalism is a fucking myth.

  • LIE! A FUCKING LIE! "Myth" is far too kind. This lady is just plain dilutional.

  • But history isn't just straight facts. Opinion and bias are naturally part of it, because history is always told by the people in power.

I think it's idiotic to censor the history, but I think maybe she has a point about including more good things as well as bad things in the history lessons. Make them more rounded, not just take out the things she doesn't like.

  • They started by raping science until it cried out for God... Now they want to change history so it's all butterflies and lollipops. Narrow minds should never make these, or any decisions about other peoples education. Send your kids to private schools or teach them yourself if you want them to have biased views on science and history.

  • Wow a war on history. You have to show the good and the bad otherwise its propaganda. Next they are going to delete segregation and Hiroshima the books. How about delete Watergate because it make republicans look bad.

You know who did that? Stalin, Hitler, Mao to name a few. My parents grew up in eastern Europe they thought communism had existed for the last 500 years until the western radio broadcasts started informing them of the truth. Is that what you really want in America?

  • disgusting.

  • These revisionist, bible-thumping dominionists will not be satisfied until they have completely dumbed down a generation of Americans to the point that they can no longer compete with kids from Gambia.

And don't think this is just about Texas - Texas sets the curriculum for quite a few states.

  • hey guys, Nazi's are the work of satan, right? and what was the outcome of the vietnam war?

  • Jane Fonda lined up the American troops and shot them. Then she bombed them. Then she shot them again.

  • As a student in Texas, I have to say this is nothing remarkable. This state is a joke, especially its educational system. Many teachers refuse to teach evolution and the former head of the board of education didn't even believe in it. This is a state full of stupid backwards rednecks stuck 200 years ago and I can't say this is surprising to me at all.

  • Manhunter - Not only did Don McLeroy not believe in evolution, he's on record as being a young earther. And don't think his replacement, Gail Lowe is a bit better. In some ways she's worse. She's more politically savvy, much, much sneakier and every bit a creationist.

  • Exactly right. The religious nuts here have been forcing their indoctrination for years and look where it's got the state. Someone needs to explain to them science/facts vs feelings and emotional dreams/fantasy.

  • You live in a country that want to believe in hope and change. oprah faries and The Secret.

Then you have the really wacked that are comforted with thoughts of jesus bombing anyone that isn't a blue-eyed christian.. Poor brown children on the other side of the world must be violently murdered in the streets to keep Sarah Palins special needs baby safe.

Then you get the Baucus plan rammed down your throat as bipartisan reform.

The sleep of reason produces monsters. Nothing new.

  • This country is a joke -- your great state is just a little bit louder.

As a student now you are probably all to aware how "no child left behind" dismantled cirriculum so you get to study more on how to pass standardized tests and less history anyway. I guess it would help if the little bit of history you did get was factual.

  • Hey Fox News you wanna know what indoctrination of our children looks like?

    Here's a 1m29s of it.

This is a campaign to remove responsibility from our leaders and their choices. If the Conservatives can't get history on their side they're going to rewrite it.

It's the ultimate affront to the responsibilities our founders expected our leaders to claim.

America has done many great thing and a litany of horrors. It bears repeating: Those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.

  • I can't help but think of Winston Smith, going through and editing past documents to make them more appealing and nationalistic.

  • WTF!!! How about we give our kids an honest picture of what America is like. If we did some good shit, teach them the good shit, if we did some bad shit, teach them that as well. Whitewashing history doesn't do them any favors.

  • "I walk the corner to the rubble

That used to be the library

Line up to the mind cemetery now

What we don't know keeps the contracts alive and movin'

They don't gotta burn the books they just remove 'em"

    -Rage Against the Machine

  • new school curriculum: the united states was created in 1776 and nothing bad has ever happened to it until Obama became president. In the words of Al: "This is a crock of shit!"

  • If you're going to prepare your children for the world by not explaining what the world is like your children are going to be ill equipped to deal with it.

I mean, might as well not teach jewish children about the holocaust or teach Russian children about the Soviet era...

history is what it is. it's not there for your benefit or to stroke your sense of patriotism. it's there so people are educated and understand where they come from and so they also understand what the pitfalls are.

  • What happened to humility in this country? There is enough arrogance and ignorance in this country to raise the Titanic. These revisionist history efforts are insane.

  • Wow.

And she actually prepared those remarks.

  • Exceptionalism = Lying to yourself to make you feel good about your accomplishments = no thanks. Instead we should be as brutally honest with each other as possible, and if you feel embarrassed or ashamed about something in our history: GOOD. Let it inspire you to do a better job! Our country is special because we are a self-correcting one. we confront issues (eventually) and overcome them.

  • Amen!

  • Oh the irony, She wants to remove references to propaganda from history class, thus turning history class into progaganda.

  • WTF!!!

  • This wasn't the change I wanted!

I don't plan on having kids, but by some chance I do, there's no way in hell I'm sending them to a public school.

  • I want to know how others responded to this!

  • America is a Great Force of Good/Evil. "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it?" (Unknown Author) What Happened to Full Disclosure?

  • This is why these people want the schools in local control, so they teach their kids what they want, and indoctrinate them with their world view,

  • So does this shit apply to private schools too? Or are they just trying to change what is taught at public schools?

  • what.

    an.

    idiot.

  • Texas board of education is also opposed to evolution being taught to kids. The US education system is NOT working. I think it's the next most important thing to be overhauled after the healthcare system. Religious nutjobs like this woman too easily exploit the system the way it is now and their religion gains but the USA suffers.

  • Where the hell do you live dude? I know that here in S.C. , the buckle of the bible belt, a student can't pray in school, can't proselytize, the bible is outta the class, as are the ten commandments, and most teachers are atheist. So what are you even talking about?

  • What happens if they try to pray?

  • Her resume includes "secretary of the dictator of north korea"

When you nit pick the truth and only leave in the things you want to be heard you end up with a classic case of propaganda. This lady wants to do what north korean dictator does.

  • She is the ectoplasm of Hitler

  • His name is Kim Ill Jong and don't be bad mouthing the Great Leader. He's awesome and is coming to save us all from the nasty, evil capitalist imperialists and the unbelievably high standard of living that we enjoy so that we can eat our cats and dogs and starve to death like our brave brothers and sisters in Korea.

  • What the hell is wrong with people? She objects to the use of the word "propaganda" being used in history classes, but then wants the curriculum in the history classes to be nothing BUT propaganda! How batshit crazy can some people be? America is not all wine and roses. We did ALOT of bad shit to get to where we are today, and people need to learn to accept the bad with the good so they have a realistic picture of the world, and its history.

  • She wants indoctrination, but not by a President who says, "do your homework".

  • i would have LAUGHED in that retarded womans face.

  • I'de like to see the rebuttal

  • Sie ist ein Nazi, ganz klar

  • Nein, sie ist ein Arschloch.

  • My God! Its Michelle Bachman's twin sister.

  • Thanks TPM for another brilliant get. Whatever happened to the day in 100 seconds?

  • I think texas is very likely to secede and if they do, more will follow (like vermont) And we will wind up having another civil war and have to beat the sh!t out of them or vice versa. In the end, we will be about like the later part of "Gone with the wind" and eventually we'll get over it and become patriotic again.

Or china will take back the debt we owe them by invading with a 1-million-man-army and destroy us all. This will bring the same results as above but we'll be speaking chinese

  • She's a nazi.

  • i say don't let texas secede. let's kick thier asses out of the union. these people are braindead...

  • This woman sounds like she is on the education board of the USSR or Nazi Germany.

  • Germany also taught how great and "unique" they were back in the 30's

  • The truth is that lies are ALREADY being told in history classes through all of the US.

Read the book "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong" by James Loewen. It's awesome.

  • This is America's problem in the first place. Can we get a giant jigsaw, cut Texas out from the rest of the lower 48 and just float it out into the Gulf of Mexico now?

  • You madame are uniquely stupid. You love America like a five year old loves her mommy. I love this country like a grown up I acknowledge our failures and successes and wish it to improve in the future. We were isolationist and imperial we have done wrong today by engaging in wars that were only to fill certain coffers. Children should know that the country they live in does not get straight A's that most of the report card is needs improvement and that they can work on those improvements.

  • Dear Ford.

  • Gus Caesar

  • That's pretty disgusting.

  • what a bitch!! she wants to rewrite history books for our children.

  • "Take out the negatives"

So in other words.... how can we not teach our children critical thinking or facts of any kind when dealing with our country's history.

Please leave the Union Texas. You're a fucking embarrassment.

  • She worded it poorly, but her underlying sentiment is dead on. The negatives shouldn't be ommitted because they are negative; they should be ommitted because they are not true. Whatever (few, small) ACTUAL negatives there are, should remain.

  • I think the kids should learn the truth, Not the BS such as Reagan was the best Pres. ever or GWB single handed faught terrorism and kept us safe, Both the biggest lies ever told,

  • now i understand Texas so much better. They are brainwashed from the beginning

  • all american kids are brainwashed, what matters is if you agree with it or not

  • Wow the stupid hurts

  • While I think there is something to be said about teaching civic pride (and this includes acknowledging the world's debt to western civilization, not simply where it has gone afoul), this borders on a falsification of history.

Balance is what is needed. Neither re-packaged propaganda, nor self loathing nonsense that would have people be oblivious to the fact that the U.S.' failings (and those of "western man" in general) are common to all of humanity.

  • Kids HAVE to learn American exceptionalism in school?? WHY? God, I'm so sick of this blind superpatriotism on the Right. What's so bad about just being a patriot? Just love your country and work to better it and fight for it. Don't pretend like it's better than all else. Yes, America is unique in many ways, good and bad, but we're not "exceptional." We're just a nation among nations. You don't have to think we're number 1 in order to be patriotic. No other nation does.

  • you need to grow up because exceptionalism is taught nearly everywhere in various different forms

  • whoo Excellence in your comment
