  • From around 5 minutes on is our opener for our marching show this year. Just a much more intensified version however lol.

  • This song was originally composed for my high school!!!

  • @sailormew2000 my marching show is dedicated to the same thing, or we go to the same school... I don't know

  • I got to meet John Mackey today and see some of his songs done by a great wind ensemble. I also got to hear a lot about his inspiration for composing and things like that. It was such a great experience! Did you know he doesn't play any instruments? :) Except a bit of piano which he claims he is not very good at!

  • Southmoore High School Marching Band, "Remembrance"

  • Our entire marching band show was based on this piece, which was based on the U2 song "Where the Streets Have No Name"

Random info, but it's so amazing how music can have such a strong impact on so many.

  • This entire piece is so beautiful! i never cried for a song before this one

  • this is too pretty

  • Beautiful solo clarinet!

  • my highschool and me played this song

  • my band played this and the saxes sound soooo bad in our concert

  • my band played this and the saxes sound soooo bad

  • Saw the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble play this, and I cried twice.

  • @Limbach17 ME TOO.

  • @Limbach17 same...amazing.

  • definitely premiered this piece, beautifulll, check out hymn to a blue hour

  • Awww I miss this so much. Our woodwind feature in our opener for marching band was based on this. So beautiful

  • @HerSacredScars do you go to Hart High School? or somewhere else?

  • @koolperson818 Yea, I do. And I love it

  • @HerSacredScars what instrument do you play?

  • @koolperson818 Clarinet

  • @HerSacredScars what year are you in high school? btw, i play clarinet, too.

  • @koolperson818 I'm a freshman lol

  • man,i miss this song,we played this for our opener in marching&we had the solos too!

  • @yondaime1182 yea ima miss it to...

  • My marching band is playing this as their opener and end of closer, brings tears to my eyes during the show

  • @dprej mine too :D

  • the alameda county high school honor band played this for the concert this year. i was in the jr high honor band and it was AMAZING to listen to this in person. i was filled with so much emotion. i was amazed at the amount of creativity and amount of moving lines happening at the same time in this piece. BRAVO!

  • This is such a beautiful piece. I loved every second of rehearsaing an performing it. Our band took this piece to National Concert Band Festival and damn it was epic. I feel like I can't believe somebody wrote something so beautiful.

    I love this piece.

  • @trumpetman923 i couldn't agree more with you! i have to say that this ihas been my all time favorite piece! john Mackey has serious talent. i have played two other songs from him that are also lots of fun! undertow and asphalt cocktail.! but these werent slow and pretty, they were fast and furious! it was so much fun playing them! but Aurora Awakes was heaven like!!! i LOVED IT SO SO MUCH!!!!!

  • @chaguirre1

What's even crazier is that John Mackey doesn't even play an instrument! He learned how to write by countless numbers of scores into a computer type thing. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong about how he learned but I know he never learned how to play an instrument. So if you ever look at a Mackey piece and see some ridiculous note or rhythm for your instrument it's because he doesn't know that's not in your instrument's ability.

  • @trumpetman923 OMG Are you serious? that explains alot!!!in asphalt cocktail, teir were some trills that he expected clarinets to be able to play!!they were just impossible to do them withouth squeaking! man this guy is freakin Amazing!! i love all his pieces!!!

Nice, we had your band director come and work with us when we worked on that piece. I go to west potomac. He's a pretty cool guy.

  • @trumpetman923 yea hes awesome haha hope the piece went well for yaa

  • i agree with leaf ninja. epic. but also beautiful.

  • i played this piece at the texas all state band 2010 but we had a horrible performance. we sounded good at rehearsal but at the concert we sucked! i was terribly dissapointed but you did a wonderful job. loved the sax vibrato!!

  • @chaguirre1 i played tuba, and the performance wasn't all bad. lots of emotion....the other pieces though.....eeeww..

  • @starofthewesttuba

i dont think you guys did bad! i listened to all your pieces and i just thought they were wondeful! my texas all state concert however did go bad! :(

  • @chaguirre1 i was in your group :P

  • @starofthewesttuba you made the texas symphonic all state band? and you didn't think we sucked?!? lol

  • @chaguirre1 well we did for some of it. we were a great band, i blame our sour performance on the director. he didn't pay much attention to everyone as a whole, and he picked some shitty music minus this piece

  • @starofthewesttuba YYEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! i hated the director! my parents did'nt like our performances either! the carolina song was okay but the techno crap just ruined it! shoutout just sounded messy as a whole! the divertimento was our best piece but it was so boring and cliche! i didn't like it! and omg the improve thing done by the students just sounded like noise! it was all disorganized! i didn't enjoy the concert! and the director didn't even know how to conduct!!! he got me so so mad!

  • i played this piece at the texas all state band 2010 but we had a horrible performance. we sounded good at rehearsal but at the concert we sucked! i was terribly dissapointed but you did a wonderful job. loved the sax vibrato!!
