  • farteen, lol

  • I drove through Gary, Indiana on my way to Georgia a few years ago for my cousins funeral, and I saw the sign and broke out into song! ^_^ ♪♥♫

  • crotch is farteen? haha

  • Oh Also, I think I like Being in Love better than My white knight. I find myself fast forwarding through My white knight (which is something I don't like doing when Kristen is singing)

  • I think I like all the original actors better than the one in this one. I love Kristen Chenoweth (Wicked, Candide, Chralie Brown, loved her in all of them) , but Shirly Jones is still my favorite Marian. And I would chose Preston over Broderick any day for Harold Hill. Broderick's more gentle character does not portray the stereotypical traveling salesmen. That being said I love Broderick many of his other roles. Preston couldn't have played Brodericks role in the Producers for example.

  • i thought they did Gary Indiana outside

  • what an ending note Kristin!

  • Thxs so much

  • Bravo Kristin Chenoweth! What a voice you have!

  • Such a shame how horribly Gary,Indiana turned out...

  • Haha I like how he pretends they aren't Irish :) lol

  • I love how Harold adds O' in front of all those cornet players and I like this Winthrop better because his lisp looks more natral.

  • at the end of this song, the note for "die" is higher in the stage music. I think the key was changed a little bit even though she can sing off the piano!!!

  • @julzikins11209 almost the entire song's key was changed for her...and it's odd because I'm pretty sure she could have hit all of the original notes. Maybe the director wanted the song to be less shrieky.

  • Her voice on My White Night is simply amazing

  • I'm a speech therapist, so I just love little Winthrop. It's true that many children with a lisp avoid saying words with s sounds in them because they're made fun of. I think Marion is just trying to look out for him.

  • @luv2writeksa no. The idea is the kid doesnt like talking because he has a lisp. Just like you dont like showing your face because your ugly. =p

  • I sang this song for a contest. I love the high notes :)

  • no offense to her but.. irish brogue FAIL

  • @actressqtxoxo I COMPLETELY agree. It's ridiculous... so painfully obvious that she had no dialect coaching for this role.

  • anyone else think Marion is being an enabler for her brother not talking at about 6"38 or so? "i wrote it all down. you wont have to talk to anyone." seriously?

  • I love how in the beginning when Kirsten's character says," A man followed me home today." and the mom goes, "OOHH! Who?" If I had said that my mother would have called the police! I guess because of the different times.

  • I couldn't be any plainer if I was a quaker on his day off!

  • This voice isn't Nearly as powerful as the Great Jamie Espiritu of Bear Creek High

  • ......O`Reily .....lol hahahahahahahahahaha!!!

  • @StarzGaze31 that was a joke btw...

  • At around 1:41 does she say "her" instead of he?

  • @Mscottonblossom no. she says him.

  • MEOW!!! FISTY MAREIN!!!

  • i love this plllayyyy

  • God, I freaking love Kristin Chenoweth.

  • haha women like quiet men cuz they think theyre listening ;P (my history told us tat 1- and yea ima chik)

  • Both my friends can hold out the note at the end of My White Knight...I can hold it out, I just can't hit it. the chorus teacher's brutally honest four year old said, "Mommy, is she supposed to be shrieking like that?"

  • I love Kristin! She has a powerful voice for such a tiny person

  • My parents are friends w/ a couple whose names are Gary and Deena. My parents can never talk about them without be singing this song in my mind! LOL

  • in our skool play i am marian!! we get the kiss to and the boy i kiss is my BF!!!! and we just started dating so we havent kissed yet!! here comes the KISS!!!

  • i wanted to be marian at first...until i found out she was a librarian. so now i wanna be zaneeta

  • i like Ron Howard singing it. It was so cute!

  • I remember when I played Marian Paroo in music man, ah, yes it was my favorite play from then on. (Maybe just becuz I had the best role... besides Hill lol)

  • geez cheno...cold!! hhaa

  • I'm glad they put this version of "Gary Indiana" in this version. It was added for the movie, and I think it made more sense when Winthrop sang it later on. Plus it was sweet to have Widda Paroo singing with Harold Hill, so we get a sense of her intoxication by him.

  • I managed to get Marian in my theater group, and it was GREAT!!!

  • I love Debra Monk!

  • "crawtch: faurteen" hahaha i love mrs.paroo (sp?)

  • 0:26 "O'Mendez"

    lol

  • @sputnikthesatellite i don't understand the joke

  • @TammyisFly123 Mendez is a Spanish last name, I thought it was funny that he was putting an "O'" in front of it to make it sound Irish. :P

  • I think this movie is kind of cool! But i never really know until i read the book

  • I'm glad they used this song, rather than 'Being in Love' from the movie...which is awfully boring.

  • crottch 14?

    that is impressive

    lol lol

  • Ooh Kristin is amazing! And those last few notes sent a chill up my spine! Haha yey. Ooh but any other Cheno fans her book is coming out in 23 days!

  • OMG what??? what is the book actually i dont care... its to do with her so il buy it

  • Haha its sort of an autobiography..."life, Love and Faith in Stages" it comes out on the 14th of April haha i have been counting down ever since i founs out about it! its about 15 days to go i think...Cheno rules!

  • woah thats my brothers birthday...haha random sry

  • for some reason, the timing is really off :(

    its all good though.

  • It's actually rather impressive how they made Kristin Chenoweth even moderately unattractive, since she's actually such a beautiful woman.

  • Is that the same ms.Paroo from the original

  • ...no.

  • Wintrop sings it too.

    Later in the movie.

Well atleast he is supposed to.

I'm in Music Man at my school and Wintrop sings it later in the musical.

But he are using the scrips from the 70's version.

But I'm pretty sure Winthrop sings it too.

  • He does. The first Gary, Indianna is sung by Hill and Mrs. Paroo in the Broadway version. Winthrop doesn't sing it until act 2, just before "shipoopi"

This movie follows the musical script a little more than the original one did.

  • In the play.....

...there is only one 'Gary, Indiana'--sung by Winthrop in Act 2, AFTER 'Shipoopi', which opens Act 2. That's how the Original Broadway was. They changed it for the 2000 revival, but I just finished a production of it and we used the OBScript [save for some small changes--'Jeazel Petes!'-->'Jelly kly!']. So there ya go. XD

  • Oh, yeah I was talking about the revival in 2000 lol. Sorry for the confusion!!

  • her voice is amazing at 7:17!!she has such a beautiful voice!!

  • Kristin Chenoweth is just spectacular! I love her, she is amazing!!!!

  • I ADORE THIS MUSICAL! I love Mathew Broderick! But I loved it even moer live, ther'e's jsut such a chemistry in a live musical, but still love it here...

  • "Oclark. O-mendez. O-Klein." LOOOOOL

  • i live pretty close to Gary, Indiana

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!

  • LOL- Have you been to Gary, Indiana? If you have well you already got this joke!

  • definitly!

  • i dont get it...there is a joke

  • yep. On a trip to IN I spent eight hours driving around looking for it.

  • wow! chalk me up for one vote for robert preston and shirley jones. love broderick, but RP is too impossible to follow. if i grew up with this version =\

  • i think RP was better than Broderick but Christian Chennewith was better than Shirley Jones for sure

  • its spelt Kristin Chenoweth :)

    and yes she was spectacular

  • I got marian paroo at my school! I was sooooooo excited!

  • God I remember seeing him in Torch Song Trilogy back in the late 1970s. He was so young them and in a fictional love relationship with Harvey Firestein(sp). God he's a good actor but he's definately trying to broaden his horizon; musically. He's good. I like him.

  • I've seen the old Music Man a couple of times, but I never could get into it. Some of the songs were sung in such a boring way and the Music Man was just so incredibly obnoxious! I like this version way better! Especially the way the song "My White Knight" was done! Holy cow, MOUNTAINS of improvement! It was such a dull song sung by Shirley Jones (nothing against Shirley- she's one of my favorite actresses), but Kristen Chenoweth really made the song worth listening to!

  • this is strang.....my school play has Winthrop singing gary indiana! weird

  • Winthrop does sing "Gary Indiana" later in the musical

  • don't get me wrong i LOVE!! kristin....

but i think she's overacting in this...

    still I LOVE HER VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha, so think about this. I saw this version first and then the original, and I've got to say I like this version better. So your right babypolkadot.

  • whoa....Its very off. Lol doesn't really matter altleast the sound is good and the voices are amazing!

  • That's my song right there. Thank you lizzyanne15. You are completely right. They are both amazing actors, but the way they chose to play the role is their decision, and if you've ever acted at all you would know that. Just because you get used to the way one person portrays the role doesn't mean that no one else can do it just as well or better.

  • haha, so think about this. I saw this version first and then the original, and I've got to say I like this version better. So your right babypolkadot.

  • Guys you don't understand Harold Hill and Marian Paroo are just characters. Its up to the actor to decide what the character is.

  • @NicGeoffProductions only up to a certain point is it the actors choice. arnold schwarzenegger couldn't have played the terminator as a pot head or the kindergarden cop and as a prankster could he?

  • @NicGeoffProductions Actually, its the director who decides how the character is to be played. Casting director decides who play what character, the actor simply plays the character that they tell him/her to.

  • @godswordsheal No, the director tells them a basic idea and lets them go with it from there. They may ask you to redo stuff but they give you the basic idea of what their looking for and then let you make the character your own.

  • @Kristina4evr Making the character your own and making the character are different ideas. I'm saying the actor can only work within what the director/producers all agree about the character, the actor cannot make his/her own character.....

  • Okay. Shirley Jones is extremely talented. BUT so is Kristen Chenoweth. You shouldn't compare the two. They are two completely different singers/performers and are both equally amazing in their own right.

  • it would be better is the sound was right

  • omg i luv this movie and this version my white knight is such a cool song i ove the line who is not ashamed of a few nice things im gonna be marian in the junior version im so excited!

  • me 2!!!!!

  • Cheno is awsome. I love this movie thanks for posting:)

  • To the person who uploaded The Music Man to Youtube: You, my friend, deserve an award.

I can't tell you how much I love this version. <3<3

  • This version is alright, but the original was way better.

  • I AGREE

  • ahhhh it's the hat of doom the purple one is pretty bad too...hahaha but I love it..Kristin Chenoweth is a better Marian... Shirly Jones was alright...but.. Kristin's better...

  • Okay, who's a better Winthrop? Ron Howard (Opie on Andy Griffith) or Cameron?

  • Cameron leaves Ronnie Howard in the dust. He was terrific!!

  • I know! I was kinda bored, that's why I asked. Thanks for replying though. But Ron was cute in Happy Days (I'm slightly addicted to TV Land...) and he's a great director too!

  • oh, i love Ron Howard but his performance in Music Man was no where near as good as Cameron!!!

  • True, true. Okay, what about Harold Hill/Gregory? Broderick or Preston? And (I'm cringing here) Marian? Shirley Jones or Kristin Chenoweth?

  • Well, I have to say that while Preston is a legend in this role, I kind of like Broderick's quieter, more charming approach. He doesn't have the boisterous bellow of Preston, but his voice is sweet and very easy on the ears.

I actually loved Shirley Jones but never bought into the love between her and Hill's character. The Broderick/Chenoweth chemistry seemed more real, but I think Disney set out to showcase the love story in the remake.

  • Amen! Finally, someone who agrees!

  • I actually did not see Preston's performance until after I saw this remake and for some of the songs his voice and personality was better suited for the Hill role, but I totally thought Broderick was charming and more believeable. He gets a bad rap from critics and fans who can't get past the Ferris Bueller thing. I think he is very underrated.

  • ron howard

  • yup well said !!!!!

  • I feel your pain, sister.

  • No one is cuter than Matthew!!

  • I knoooooww D:

    I love him!!!

    Too bad he's married,

    And i'm 16 :[
