i like how in the 2nd one they explain that you can eat sweets but not a lot.but yet the 2nd one is unrealistic and just weird.example: they shove ALL the food in they're shirts.the first one was pretty normal.i think they just should have changed what they said about not being able to eat sweets not the party.
Now that I can have sweets in moderation (rather than forbidden to have them at all), I no longer crave and pig out on sweets, but I will eat them if I feel a low blood sugar reaction or to keep my sugar from dropping too low.
When I was first diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (Dec, 1991), I was told the same thing...to avoid sugar, much like the original "No Sugar, Sugar" episode. But, that backfired in a big way. When I was forbidden to have sweets, I craved them and sneaked them behind their backs. That led to ridiculous blood sugars and extremely poor controlled diabetes. Finally, I was allowed to have sweets in moderation and, for the most part, that seems to have helped me.
2nd one started to get a little too preachy when Oliver starts saying he doesn't want them to think he's broken. it would have been better in my oppinion if he had instead pointed out they were acting exactly the way he thought they would. to me it seemed like dysney didn't want the main character to be called out on the way she acte- waaait a minute, I think i answered my own question. well thats my own unprofessional oppinion, so peace out!
SHUT UP ABOUT THE FREAKIN LINE im a type1 diabetes and im not pissed off because quote on quote I DONT CARE!!!!!!!! it is a freakin childs sitcom it dosent matter what they say if they say somthing the kids dont beleive it personally i let my little cousion see it and she didnt care. SO SHUT UP BECAUSE ITS NOT DISNEYS FAULT PARENTS ARE BEING OVERSENSITIVE!!!
I like the second one better, but I've heard they only made this episode because Nick Jonas has Type 1 Diabetes and in the episodes after this, they never mention Oliver's Diabetes, plus I think Nick is a better role model and spokesperson for Diabetes cuz he actually has it and hes hot :)
I like the second one. My aunt has type one diabetes. and if they really wanted to know how to shoot this episode why didn't they just talk to Nick Jonas. He Has type one diabetes and this did air way after he released the news. I think they coulld have saved themselfs a lot of money and time if they had Talked to him and his family
I prefer accurate information so I'd have to go with second, although they should have refilmed the whole episode instead of just the final scene because of the age difference.
what is it with people thinking that diabetics cant do anything normal people do. Ive been a type1 diabetic for 10 years nearly and i won a silver medal in the Irish national swimming championships last June. And while they say that you cant get it from eating sugar they didnt say how you can get it and they also didnt tell the difference between type 1 and type2
@ciaradswim I know I am only 11 but already I have won 16 different Football tournaments with my type 1 diabetes. They used to say when I tried out and I said i had diabetes "Why aren't you fat?" and so automaticaly people think you are sugar obsessed or fat BUT THAT ISNT TRUE!!
I remember seeing both of them on tv.? I especially remeber te part on the 1st one where oliver saids"I want it, but i can't have it." I like BOTH of them. I really don't see the problem with the first one. I don't know much about diabeties but even if I did, it still wouldn't matter because since a lot of little kids watch this, they don't really pay attention to the education stuff much, and pre-teens and teenagers will forget about the misinformation, so shame on dinsey for wasting an episode
I may have a dirty mind, but it seems that the original episode was cut because the whole thing seemed like the way to do an episode about coming out of the closet without upsetting Disney Channel's Standards and Practices.
@kimberlymtaylor I liked the second on better. The first one had not even the right information and would of made children get the wrong idea. I'm glad the fixed it up and put it in the third season with a better understanding
Yeaaaaah, that first one. Yeech. As a type one diabetic, I'm not really 'offended' as much as I am really, really upset when stuff this misinformed gets put on television. That little kids watch, no less.
I have type 1 diabetes, so in my opinion I find the original offensive. But thats just me. I'm really not even a fan of this show my friend just told me about it so I thought I'd check it out xD
the first one would have fit into the whole storyline better. and if you blank out the "no sugar" and see it as an exaggeration of the topic (this IS a sitcom), the first version was pretty good. unfortunately, kids don't see it as an exaggeration, they see it as truth. the episode as it ended up to be doesnt make much sense in season 3, though im glad they took up the diabetes story again.
@shamandra first of all they cancelled eat because some parents complained. It didn't had anything to do with it. Secondly, they never dropped the diabetes story.
@TechProductionsSA take a wild guess why parents complained. ;) and by dropping the story i meant that they didnt show it in season 2 where it was supposed to be but decided to pick up on it in season 3.
@shamandra I know why they complained. The line "I want it so bad, but I can't have it" is very offensive. And so are the other cutout/edited scenes. I was saying that they remade the episodes because parents complained, no because the kids complained
@TechProductionsSA sorry if i didnt made myself clear (you know, not enough space) but that is actually what i meant. the parents complaining because of the kids probably getting it the wrong way. :/ that line is offensive and im glad disney listened to the parents and remade the episode. i just said that storywise the new one doesnt make sense in season 3. :)
I think the second one is better because the information in the show is correct, but i don't think that it really fits in with the season 3 storyline. Even though it would have taken longer to complete the season (and taken even longer to record season 3) They should have just done the re writing and re recording then so that it would make sense
That was very interesting. Thanks for that. When I read up on it on Wikipedia when they changed it, I was quite curious about it. I like the second one better. Tracy falling for Mike Standley was awkward..... Also, it is good they aren't ignorant now. They should always get their facts straight before airing something. My only concern is the time difference between the first half of the second one and the second half considering they like instantly got older after that little time skip.
They really should've done the research the first time around, what with the large amount of juvenile diabetics that would watch this (like moi). I'm glad they finally got the info right, but I think it was one time too late. So, yes, I like the second one a lot better than the first, because of its' accuracy.
He has a magical meter! He didn't even have to prick his finger ;D haha, I like the 2nd version better. It annoys me when people tell me what I can and can not eat, but they don't know any better. I know one thing, my sweet 16 is going to look like hers! Candy! <3
It wasnt the smartest idea; it's aimed at the individual. Disney should know after years of production, having to squeeze an episode in causes alot of hassle. Though to be fair, whatever the consequences, it doesnt make a difference for me and at the end of the day, it doesnt have an effect on the diabetic.
I was thinking that the old version was gonna be better, but now that i saw the new one... OMG!, i'm really surprised!
But i don't like that they quit the part when the ''Sweet Sixteen Girl'' fall down, and when Miley says that is like her third Sweet Sixteen party or something like that...
This episode makes me cry, because my father died of type one diabetes and my children will most likely have it because it usualy skips a generation (it's genetic) , but it also makes me happy to see instead of pushing the usual BS "Ohh you have to be pretty and shop and like boys to be a normal girl" propaganda they tried to educate children on diabetes and even let the children who have been diaognosed with it feel like they aren't alone in the world. I liked the second one better :)
The first one isn't inappropriate, it just doesn't tell the truth, i'm diabetic and i can eat everything i want :D, altought, i like the facts things at the end of the episode, i think it could touch some people, I just have a question, today i saw on family channel the second episode, but a few monts ago, i saw the first one on tv, soo... they showed it right? By the way, the comparition was great :)
Good Job! Both of my sons have diabetes they are ages 10 and 14. We watched this together the night it aired. I am glad they decided to change the content because the No Sugar, Sugar episode made diabetic Oliver look like a sugar starved freak and played on the myth of diabetes=no sugar. The Uptight episode clarified the myth and was much more informative, which is what advocates for diabetes(myself) want to do. Educate is the key. We definitely vote for the Uptight episode as the best one.
im glad they re shot that scene cause type 1 diabetics CAN have sweets depending on their blood sugar level especially if it's low (why do you think Nick always drinks diet coke haha) but they just have to eat a balanced diet not only the sugar
i thought both episodes were pretty good. yeah the second episode was definitely more informative and appropriate, but the first one had more of the hannah montana humor in it. i actually didn't think the first one was that inappropriate.
It wasn't that it was inappropriate it just didnt portray type 1 diabetes in a way that was properly informative for the young children watching the show. I mean how would you feel if you were a 9 year old kid and this was the first you ever heard of diabetes (or worse had it) an the first episode aired, how would you feel?
Thanks for posting the two so we could compare. I was really curious what the differences were. I like the second one a lot better and not just because it was more informative. I like the interaction between Lily and Tracy and for some reason I just really like the party better at night. It looks prettier.
@saucedo123172 In the original ending of No Sugar Sugar, she got cotton candy stuck on it, so she had to get a new wig (and since it was the season finale, it first appeared in Season 3).
i'm a type 1 diabetic and i reallllllly really enjoyed the 2nd one! the first one was okay (his reaction is many diabetics reaction's at first) but it was totally wrong! i'm very glad disney fixed it!! and a brownie is okay but it's to fatty. you'll still feel awful for a long time=( but the tropical mist deorderant was so hilarious!
yeah I heard about the reason why it was pulled originally. I like what they did the second time around. it made it less confusing and prehistoric notions of type 1 diabetes. although typically having a brownie isn't a good idea for a low blood sugar because eventually the next day your blood sugar will be through the roof.. if it's the only thing around then by all means go for it.
I hate when they do these type of things. It's so weird to know this episode was shown two different ways. They should have just thought through the first time they made the episode. It's so unusual to know this was supposed to be the season 2 finale and then they kept the beginning of the episode the same, in which they all looked younger, including jackson, you can completely tell from his hair. The fact that Oliver isn't with Lily, and that this episode came out after they started going out.
That was cool; thanks for posting this. I had always heard about the "lost diabetes episode" but never saw it anywhere. I heard rumors that Miley wanted the old episode pulled because of Nick Jonas' diabetes. Yeah, ok.
Anyway, the second one is definitely better. I'm glad they didn't put false information out there.
