Well even though your weren't that good back then and cant shoot often, your lucky to have a "range" in your backyard. No need to drive to get there :)
if you try something older like a lee enfield or mosin nagent it would be a great tool for learning. thats what I started out with .303 iron sights and still my favorite rifle. it good for deer out to 200yrd with iron sights it's kinda like shooting a bow. but markmanship is hard earned with a shit ton of time. what ever you do don't give up or get discougred fucking earn that shit. FOCUS it's like standing in front of a major league picther you have to be pumped every time, concentration is key
@mrsuperterd agreed, it took me 600 rounds (and lots of handloading to find the mix my rifle liked) to get a 2 moa group with my last rifle, but it was a p.o.s. so im buying one of these, ive been shooting for 11 years and have lots of experience with iron sights, so much more challanging than my 8-32 varmint scope
@snowyphil65 if you really want a rilfe I'd say go with a tc icon it will be that last rifle you buy in whatever cal. you choose it's hands down better than the 700 they come in houge stocks wich people upgrade thier 700 with also r-5 rifleing beats the tikka and weatherbys in the same price range I know buddy traded in his T3 for one and now wants to get ride of his weatherby for an icon warloard but he has more money than brians and don't like to read much haha could have saved him some money.
@mrsuperterd yea ive heard lots of good things about the tc rifles, but i havnt looked at any, whichever rifle i buy is going to be used primarily for varmint shooting, i dont really want to spend an arm an a leg since im in college but want a .308 so i can hunt everything from prarie dogs to deer without worrying about blowing all my money on ammo, ill check out the icons next time im at cabela's or another gun shop, i have heard that the sps rifles come with cheap stocks that bend on a rest
@Exetrithe thank you very much kind youtuber. Ive actually decided that im going to sell the gun because I dont really enjoy shooting it anymore. im more into pistols now.
@ExtraEzon thank you for the actual helpful information and not just bitchin. im tired of people leaving comments that just try and argue and say i suck.
thank you very much. glad to see somebody actually helping me instead of calling me fat or saying i suck lol. im about ready to remove comments altogether if it keeps up. you shoot much?
nice. i just started my first job yesterday, so once i start getting my paycheck i'll be trying to go shooting often as well. now i get to go once every few months if im lucky. and that would be great if you bring a camera, id love to see some vids. especially since its an a4 clone. let me know when you get them up!!
@ExtraEzon you should really be shooting 168 grain match ammo. those 700's love the boat tail hollowpoint round and are tremendously accurate. i use hornaday tap in my .308 and shoot 1 inch groupings at 100 yards. yes, the very same rifle you are shooting.
.308 is more predictable then the 30-06 at longer ranged but the 30-06 is a flatter shooting round then the .308 if using the same grain because the 30-06 is faster
Military use the .308 because 1: its a short action round and 2: its drop table is more predictable when using a mil dot scope
And besides the ability to shoot heavy grain bullets an better speeds the 30-06 does not offer much of an improvment over the .308.
@lexmark136 well first off, I dont hunt, and im new to high powered rifles. My optics also arent that great, so suck it. and @MegaBonks, im tired of stupid fucks like you leavin comments like that, and btw, im the fat one, and i dont care what you have to say moron.
@Jarhead484 your retarded 308 is not a hi powered rifle a 30-06 is bigger and i shoot that perfectly fine and i have a shitty optics it's the shooter fat ass
Your dense The .30-06 round has more power (barely) and theoretically longer range, but more precision ammunition is made for the .308 Winchester rifle. The .308 also has less recoil and barrel life will be longer, and as a short-action rifle it is less expensive and more common.. .308 is a high power rilfe and stop going to videos and commenting ..you have probably never held a gun.
Your dense bud. It does not have "way more power" only alittle more. Check some ballistics tables and do your research before you comment on this kind of stuff.
30-06 is barely stronger than the .308, check some ballistics tables dumbass. and also, firstdutch, actully the 30-06 is a wee bit bigger. .308 is 7.62x51mm and the 30-06 is 7.62x54mm if i remember correctly.
@Jarhead484 wow your stupid the .308 and 30-06 shoot the same .30 caliber bullet but the .308 i less affective than the 30-06 you get your facts right dumbass
@Jarhead484 the 30-06 and .308 shoot the same bullet but defferent different case sizes that 51mm and 54mm is the size of the case 7.62 on both of the calibers is the size of the bullet but the little difference in velocity and energy makes a big defference in the long run the 30-06 shoots flatter, faster, and stronger so you look a ballistics dumbass and i have my facts right you do but you don't farhead484 is the retard
@RobertDN181995 hm so if the 30-06 is so amazing, why didnt we keep that as our military's primary round hmm?? thats because the .308 performs better, and flatter, at long distances than does the 30-06.
@Jarhead484 first of all the .308 is cheaper and the only reason that the .308 shoots so well is wat the millitary does to the bullet if you compare a civilian .308 bullet to the millitaries .308 bullet there is a difference and the 30-06 shoots faster flatter and stronger you ignerant fuck
@RobertDN181995 well i'm going to be the mature one and quit talking, because i know i'm right and you're wrong. i dont have time to argue with somebody on the internet that cant even spell right.
@Jarhead484 your going to be that much of baby cause i cant spell right all fucking well and your definitly rong now ask some who knows what he is talking about and they will say the same thing dumbass
I'm just gonna jump right in here and correct the case sizing the .308 is 7.62x51 but the 30-06 it actually a 7.62x63. The 7.62x54R is a Russian round fired from guns like the Mosin Nagant, Dragonov, the SVT-40, and PSL.
LOL, I don't think the camera actually moved that much from the "shock" of the rifle, I think it was from the "jump" of the camera man. Hehe. Get the guy a tripod!!! :)
Have you actually sighted the rifle in for 50 yards? Next time I recommend putting a few rounds through to warm up the barrell then turn on the video camera!
i shot off few rounds of 30.06, i love it but its expensive to go target shotting, and a bit powerful for what i am going to do with it either, so i can't decide to go with .308 or .243, i might go with a .308...
definately get his rifle. as far as the caliber, i had difficulty choosing too. i went with the .308 for more power and recoil. but if you dont like spending alot on ammo, i would just go with .223.
How are your groups at 100 yards with that rifle? My Remington 700 VLS chambered in .223 Remington prints consistent sub half MOA groups at 100 yards with my reloaded match ammo. If your having trouble with your rifles accuracy just PM me, I have lots of experience with long distance shooting and would love to help you out!
well if im trying hard, i can pull about 3/4" groups at 100 yds. i havent had the chance to shoot past 100 yds yet though. ill think of some questions that i know i need answers to lol.
3/4" groups isn't too bad. That rifle is definitely capable of sub half MOA groups at 100 yards though, what kind of bullets are you running through it ?
well the ones that i shot that group with was um just some 147 grain FMJ ammo from winchester. i recently got some Winchester CXP ammo as well, but havent done accuracy tests with it.
Well even though your weren't that good back then and cant shoot often, your lucky to have a "range" in your backyard. No need to drive to get there :)

The military uses the .308 because 1: its a short action round and 2: it has a more predictable drop table and 3: its lighter then the 30-06
The 30-06 is long action an it does shoot flatter and faster then the .308 and the 30-06 can also fire heavier grain bullets aswell.
remember the military uses mil-dot scopes on some of their sniper rifles an the .308 works well with the dots on the reticle.
If i had to choose a sniper round it would be the .308 but the 30-06 does have more energy

@Jarhead484 I try to go shooting twice a month.
Next time I go out maybe ill bring the camera
I have a AR15 that I built into a m16A4 clone. Im going to be replacing the trigger in it soon with a geissele SSA.
Once I get that squared away ill be heading to the range to test it out.

now here is a question to ask your self if the .308 is so amazing why is the millitary leaving it for the .338 lapua?
RobertDN181995 1 year ago
@RobertDN181995 because the .338 is a better round. shoots farther, flatter, and has alot more power.

no sir he was not. you can feel the shock about 4 feet behind the rifle. and the burst from snow was when a bullet hit right below the jug.
