It would be smarter to take over the democrat party. The candidates and agenda of that party is controlled by the socialists who only comprise 10% of the voters. If half of the independents joined the democrat party, and voted as a block to select non-socialist primary candidates, the lock the socialists have on the party would be destroyed.
