I absolutly adore the dubbed version!!! Mostly because of Eric and Jerry, because they are also in Fruits Basket (its hard to beleive that Kyo has the same voice as Russia, and we all know that Erick has such a wide range of voices) .3.
I love how in the Jap. version when Italy is screaming "I'll do anything!" and keeps screaming that and then in the dub he says, "Please I'll do anything! Well, anything within reason. I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!!"
Personally I like the dub more because of the accents. Nothing wrong with the sub. It's just as awesome. .... Ok I love both so never mind.
I like the japanese...definitely the japanese. I'm used with watching animes in japanese and I don't understand anything in english dub (excepting for America. he speaks very clearly unlike the others)
But still, the english one is funnier cause they say funnier lines xDD;;;;
Except Japan. The english voice doeesn't suits him at all but thats just my opinion :/
I prefer the Japanese voices just because I'm used to watching subbed, but I still think the dubbed version is really good. Except Austria. He doesn't sound right.
I love the original version and the dub. took me a while to get used to some of the dub voices , like Russia's, Finland's, and Spain's ( prefur Spain's sub voice, but I deal with it). I'm rather looking forward to how the the next seasons turn out.
This is one of the few exceptions I make to actually see these episodes in english. The script was creative and actually had an awesome touch of "personality" fit to the modern english language. An awesome sense of humor that I actually find more hilarious than just reading the translated subtitles :D (even though I am fan of original japanese voice dubs.) As already stated, through their accents, it fits a lot better :)
I really liked that everyone had moe voices in the JP version (cuz hey, girls need fan service too), but I agree that the goofy voices, accents & off-the-wall writing makes the English version funnier overall. So I fan the JP characters but watch the English version for its comedy. Though since UK is made of sexiness, no voice but Noriaki Sugiyama's will do for him. ;-P
That said, France in English is perfect! Great voice & accent, and he KEPT both the personality & moe-ness of the JP version!
I don't see why people get so worked up about if the English or Japanese voices are better. Personally I do like the English version better but I'm not going to throw a fit when someone doesn't agree with me. Geesh
i think that the english dub is a little funnier because (i think) they putted more words of the countries language (for example germany, he says some german stuff when he's shouting at somebody or something like that ^^) in the conversations ;)
I like how the Japanese dub and English subs are more true to the original script (I assume?), yet the English dubs add even more to laugh about with some of their satirical stabs and varying accents.
its really whatever version you watch first. like my sister watched fruits basket in english first but when she heard the japanese it was terrible to her. i usually like the japanese but funimation does and awesome job dubbing, i like both :)
Normally I hate dubs b/c it sounds horrible and you can't take anything seriously, but for Hetalia, I absolutely love them xD Its a series watched purely for comedy, so there is no need for 'cool' voices or what not, the funny accents just make it that much more funny xD Plus, the english version does put in more history in their script in a really funny way - sometimes the jokes are almost hidden, but if you do get it, it's so hilarious - I felt the script was much better for Hetalia's purpose.
I'm not a fan of the english dub. They didn't fit and the fake accents are horrible! Sooo annoying! Aaaand Italy sounds like spongebob. Sorry for my english~
Something I admired about the dub is that it didn't give a fuck about making everyone sound 'smexy.' It focused more on making the voices FIT. I also prefer the writing in the Dub because it's a lot more intricate. Who cares if they didn't sound all kawaaaaiii desssuuuu? It was pulled off a lot better there was more comedy and more historical references.
OH GOD NO. I'm super thrilled that everyone seems to love the dub, but it made me cringe the whole time. After hearing the whole series in Japanese, I feel like the dub makes them lose all their charm. All those horribly fake accents are just awful! But I normally detest dubs anyway, so I'm really biased.
English dub of america sounds american but he sounds extremely irritating and america is one of those hyper type of characters and if you are gonna give him a voice that sounds too laid back and he can talk fast but he cannot give that hyper feeling.
Sub for all of them~ They made Italy sound like mario...and Iggy has a squeaky voice in the dub, but his voice is sexy in the sub. America sounds like an ass in the dubbed, and in the sub he just seems cute and clueless. I like Russia's da, and China's aru in the Japanese. And TBH I can't understand half their accents in the English (and I HATE the sounds of American accents, which I can stil hear even when they do the accents...no offence to Americans XD considering I am half American...)
@animelove125 Those aren't really "words". They're really just indicative of their respective accents. Well, at least aru is. Though, after listening to his character songs, the aru does make China sound a bit cuter in the dub. Well, that and not having a voice that sounds like a stereotype from 1950.
i've been listening to Tod Haberkorn doing requests for fangirls, and i've gotten so used to hearing Italy's light, ditzy English voice, it's so weird to hear his Japanese one. O.o
I'll have to admit, the Funimation Hetalia dubs are not as horrific as most other dubs out there.
That being said, I still prefer sub. The dubs are slightly different from the subs, and it makes me think they're alternating the meaning, which I don't like.
@peacekitty34 I love this. They "slightly" alter the wording from Japanese, and it makes you think they're altering the meaning. What meaning is there to be altered? An average episode of Hetalia runs about five minutes and contains... historical in jokes. Those are still there. The only serious plot developments I've come across in the first two seasons are the segments with America's flashbacks and Switzerland finding... Liechtenstein and those were all handled well.
@peacekitty34 Sure, there are sentence changes, some word changes, but those are to be expected. Japanese is not English. There are dramatic differences in sentence structure and expressions. For instance, replacing England's "baka" (which I have seen translated as any word under the sun to refer to someone as an idiot) with "wanker". Or having Canada call England and France "hosers" (Slang for "white trash" or something similar). The meanings are still essentially the same.
@peacekitty34 Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say you have to like the dubs. If they're not your cup of tea, don't watch them. I'm not gonna cry about it. But just saying that dubs are "tampering with the meaning" of the whole series just by changing a few words around seems a bit... shortsighted.
@peacekitty34 And hell, I'll even agree that China and Russia (mostly China) sound better subbed. Simply as a matter of principle (China's accent is much too thick).
the meanings are different from the Japanese.. i like sub better, probably because i'm bilingual and i'm fans of alot of the Japanese seiyuus (voice actors).
@wavyhair27 Pray tell, how exactly are the "meanings different"? I went through a few of the comparisons here and didn't see much difference, aside from perhaps Germany's references to Nazi Germany. Which I suppose could be seen as a bit offensive.
@shinobi67 well, the english dub adds extra things or leaves some out. especially for America. during his meeting with England, France and Russia, all he says is for everyone to be his back-up/support, but he just called all of them something different.
@wavyhair27 Are you talking about the bit where he makes a reference to "The Charge of the Light Brigade"? Because that's probably one of my favorite dubbed scenes. Really, the voices and dialogue changes aren't that terrible. The only voice that really irks me is China's.
@shinobi67 hmmm... i guess it would have been better to say that they have different meanings, but they're funny in their own way. because they are, i'm just used to Japanese.
@wavyhair27 Yeah, fair enough. After listening to one track for an extended period of time I suppose it would be hard to get used to the other track. Thing is, I actually really got interested in Hetalia (due to the historical injokes at first) right before going to Acen. So I was able to buy the first two seasons at Funimation's booth. I had watched the first few episodes subbed, but decided to give the dub voices a shot and fell in love. Drunk England is hilarious.
@RepiblikSesel There wasn't any room. I actually don't really care for either of China's voices. In fact, China pisses me off a bit in general because he looks like a woman. I also find his "aru" to be a bit racist.
For some reason, all japenese voice actors sound the same. There's only like...10 variations.
Italy: Dub
Germany:...both? I'm leaning more towards dub but they're both OK
Japan: Dub. No contest at all
America: Are you for real right now? DUB ALL THE WAY!
Brit: They're very different voices so...both.
France: Dub
You know what, forget what I said. DUB FOR ALL! I just LOVE the accsents. It's too frikkin funny. CONGRATS USA!

Hetalia dubbed is really good and fitting (although Japan´s accent sounds weird to me), but nothing beats the original.
Italia: One of the best seiyuus - Namikawa Daisuke!
Germany: Oh, so deep voice.
Japan: The most soothing.
America: Sounds like a... well freak that he in some way is.
Britain: Just unique
France: Voice of a pervert!
Russia: Cutie!!
China: He has to have woman voice! That´s what makes him special.

It's just not the same without the accents. Dub all the way!

I'm not a fan of the english dub. They didn't fit and the fake accents are horrible! Sooo annoying! Aaaand Italy sounds like spongebob. Sorry for my english~

I like both versions, Original is going to be always the best, but the Dub made me laugh so hard that I almost fell off my chair

Texthewolf 5 months ago 29

Gillman10able 5 months ago
Sub for all of them~ They made Italy sound like mario...and Iggy has a squeaky voice in the dub, but his voice is sexy in the sub. America sounds like an ass in the dubbed, and in the sub he just seems cute and clueless. I like Russia's da, and China's aru in the Japanese. And TBH I can't understand half their accents in the English (and I HATE the sounds of American accents, which I can stil hear even when they do the accents...no offence to Americans XD considering I am half American...)

i love dub !!
the only thing i don't like about it is Poland's voice :P , idk why though ,
that and that they don't make them say there little signature words like aru (for china ) or da (for russia )
animelove125 5 months ago in playlist More videos from Kirjava6
@animelove125 Those aren't really "words". They're really just indicative of their respective accents. Well, at least aru is. Though, after listening to his character songs, the aru does make China sound a bit cuter in the dub. Well, that and not having a voice that sounds like a stereotype from 1950.

Japan: From when he has an Italian accent?
America:Pretty Good!

France:Snob
Russia:*Lost his cuteness* ;A;
China:Something between man and woman

i've been listening to Tod Haberkorn doing requests for fangirls, and i've gotten so used to hearing Italy's light, ditzy English voice, it's so weird to hear his Japanese one. O.o

I like all of the english voices better except for china, I just love how they keep on making China say Aru after every sentence.

@yotsubafanfan I second that.

I love both, but I do like China's Japanese voice over his english but... They're both so awesome
jadem9987 6 months ago
I'll have to admit, the Funimation Hetalia dubs are not as horrific as most other dubs out there.
That being said, I still prefer sub. The dubs are slightly different from the subs, and it makes me think they're alternating the meaning, which I don't like.
peacekitty34 6 months ago 3
@peacekitty34 I love this. They "slightly" alter the wording from Japanese, and it makes you think they're altering the meaning. What meaning is there to be altered? An average episode of Hetalia runs about five minutes and contains... historical in jokes. Those are still there. The only serious plot developments I've come across in the first two seasons are the segments with America's flashbacks and Switzerland finding... Liechtenstein and those were all handled well.
shinobi67 6 months ago
@peacekitty34 Sure, there are sentence changes, some word changes, but those are to be expected. Japanese is not English. There are dramatic differences in sentence structure and expressions. For instance, replacing England's "baka" (which I have seen translated as any word under the sun to refer to someone as an idiot) with "wanker". Or having Canada call England and France "hosers" (Slang for "white trash" or something similar). The meanings are still essentially the same.
shinobi67 6 months ago
@peacekitty34 Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say you have to like the dubs. If they're not your cup of tea, don't watch them. I'm not gonna cry about it. But just saying that dubs are "tampering with the meaning" of the whole series just by changing a few words around seems a bit... shortsighted.
shinobi67 6 months ago
@peacekitty34 And hell, I'll even agree that China and Russia (mostly China) sound better subbed. Simply as a matter of principle (China's accent is much too thick).
shinobi67 6 months ago
the meanings are different from the Japanese.. i like sub better, probably because i'm bilingual and i'm fans of alot of the Japanese seiyuus (voice actors).
wavyhair27 6 months ago
@wavyhair27 Pray tell, how exactly are the "meanings different"? I went through a few of the comparisons here and didn't see much difference, aside from perhaps Germany's references to Nazi Germany. Which I suppose could be seen as a bit offensive.
shinobi67 6 months ago
@shinobi67 well, the english dub adds extra things or leaves some out. especially for America. during his meeting with England, France and Russia, all he says is for everyone to be his back-up/support, but he just called all of them something different.
wavyhair27 5 months ago
@wavyhair27 Are you talking about the bit where he makes a reference to "The Charge of the Light Brigade"? Because that's probably one of my favorite dubbed scenes. Really, the voices and dialogue changes aren't that terrible. The only voice that really irks me is China's.
shinobi67 5 months ago
@shinobi67 hmmm... i guess it would have been better to say that they have different meanings, but they're funny in their own way. because they are, i'm just used to Japanese.
wavyhair27 5 months ago
@wavyhair27 Yeah, fair enough. After listening to one track for an extended period of time I suppose it would be hard to get used to the other track. Thing is, I actually really got interested in Hetalia (due to the historical injokes at first) right before going to Acen. So I was able to buy the first two seasons at Funimation's booth. I had watched the first few episodes subbed, but decided to give the dub voices a shot and fell in love. Drunk England is hilarious.

Italy:Dub. Accent is so cute, but Japanese is good too.
Germany: Both, they both fit him so well.
Japan: Both. Both are so refined! Japanese is hot, Engrish is adorable!
America: Dub. Japanese voice is a bit annoying, and his English voice sounds more heroic XD
England: Dub, I'm a bit uncomfortable with the fact that his Japanese voice sounds like Sasuke Uchiha, plus the dub has the epic accent! ^^
France: Dub. The laugh is so much better.
Russia:Both. Sub is innocent, Dub is Evil

@RepiblikSesel There wasn't any room. I actually don't really care for either of China's voices. In fact, China pisses me off a bit in general because he looks like a woman. I also find his "aru" to be a bit racist.

Germany: Dub, the accents is awesome.
Japan: Dub, that voice is so dreamy.......
America: Well, I like it when he laughs in the sub, but his voice is funnier in the dub.
England: BOTH!!! Both are equally sexy and hot, I can't choose.
France: Dub, his accents and his creepy, pervy laugh.
Russia: Both. Although I perfer his accents in the dub.
China: Sub. His accents in the dub is weird, we Chinese don't talk like that.
Conclusion: DUB PWNS. =D

The overall winners for me are:
Italy: Dub, simply for the accent. Some of his lines are excellent too.
Germany: Dub, same reason. The voices are... really quite similar, so the accent clinches it.
Japan: Dub.
America: Dub dudes.
England: Dub, isn't that right Flying Mint Bunny?
France: Dub ~hon hon hon~
Russia and China: A bit iffy here. I love both, but they're sort of at a deadlock.
Sub purists may not apply. I am well armed.
