  • i think innocentul and MaBu888 should just give each other their emails so they can email each other about all of that... stuff.... instead of using youtube to annoy everyone.

  • @psychicbyinternet The countertenor's name is Davide Troìa. He's from Naples, Italy, as the rest of the group. He is a teacher and a musical director as well.

  • I wonder who the countertenor was?

  • This conductor should take over the Sistine Choir and tame that unruly choir and whip them into shape. The RC church needs an exemplary ensemble to show the world. In its present form, the Sistine Choir, however venerable, does not do that in any way.

Thanks for this really excellent performance.

I played the organ part in a performance of this piece in 1996 in New Haven, CT., USA.

Does this Ensemble Vocale di Napoli ever tour the USA? They should.

  • How pitiful it is that instead of appreciating Arvo Part's music on its own accord, people devote their energy to petty insults against each other's religious beliefs. THIS IS THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY LEARN TO BE TOLERANT. Intolerance has time and time again plunged us into religious wars. So people GROW UP!

  • oh, dear listers, I am a non-believer and I BELIEVe such music defends itself without any reference to any deity; so, I think your arguments are quite pointless. Just listen and enjoy.

  • This is a very mesmerizing piece, difficult (even exhausting) to sing (I've performed this), and trance-inducing for the audience. However, I think it's too much for an audience or choir, for that matter, to absorb or stay focused on. I think the piece requires much clearer (i.e. less vibrato) voices to make those interlocking lines work.

  • i mix the online free book called natures eternal religion with a a lil sufisim mosttly the poets only none of the semite influeinced yada yada....

  • As rooted as it is in Christianity, the philosophy of Pärt's music is actually a lot like Zen...it's about simplicity, purity, stripping away what isn't necessary...his music isn't a lecture, it's a conversation. And if you ask me, it's some of the most powerful, meaningful, and beautiful music of the past half-century. Passio, while not my favorite of his, is the logical conclusion of his early tintinabuli approach of composition.

  • That is, as opposed to the more emotional and colorful music he's written for the past 10-15 years, which is equally as stunning, if a little overlooked.

  • Hello, the attributes you assign to Zen are actually quite Christian. Particularly if you read something about Christian Mysticism you will find that out.

  • You're right that those qualities also have a role in Christianity, and although I'm a Buddhist, I am familiar with the writings of the Christian mystics. I wasn't trying to sever Mr. Pärt from his beliefs. I was just saying that I, as a Buddhist, also appreciate those qualities in his music.

  • @innocentul Thanks a bunch. You want people to come to Christ so you insult them.

Jesus never did that, and he also never made false claims about people's attitudes to girls. You don't know this person, and yet you believe them to be proud and overassertive. LOVE your neighbour.

You're putting other Christians to shame

Furthermore, protestantism and catholicism are not extremes, no more than orthodoxy is extreme. We are not missing anything in our churches.

    Pride is a deadly sin.

  • @WeirdAndGeeky u have no idea what orthodoxy is.. but who believes in buddha is proclaiming him self god! that is pride man! i am a sinner, and i repent of my pride! pleace study for a min Saint Silouane the athonite, and compare the orthodox God with your catholic, protestant God.. untill you don't you talk without looking to the entire picture..they don't even come close, they are entierly diferent! sorry for my english! wanna be wise?study the ortthodoxy!eastern orthodoxy ofcource!forgive me!

  • @innocentul

Who believes Buddha invokes only the most high One Infinite Creator.

  • @innocentul

Buddhism is a path of transcending the mind with its limited and limiting nature, and going into the heart and beyond the heartmind, ultimately. Beyond, isa very dynamic word.

The path of Buddha and of Christ, never was about domination or interference in the paths of other beings besides self. Buddha is a dynamic name for the one infinite prime creator of all that is.

  • @MaBu888 just.. let it .. i'll just share a tear for you, cause you are in a state were the darknesse (satan)is imitating the real Light ,and it's offering these "way of wisdom" to you.ignore it or you will parrish ! a mind poisoned with yoga is very hard to be cured.. you need to cry a lot so that you'll ever recover.. You just dream of power and you simply can't understand that is so wrong! is the highest sin! Buddha is in the center of hell ,child!buddha and Christ are not in the same team!

  • @innocentul

You are very arrogant in your tone.

You seem to have condemned all people who haven't read the Bible or haven't believed in it. I say this: it is an incomplete book abbreviated and modified by the Roman catholic church. You, as anyone else religious, manage to condemn everyone who is not in your denomination (Greek Catholic).

  • @MaBu888 My,friend,i am orthodox, but you don't know what that is, don't you?ofcourse you don't!it is not your falt.let it be.be how God want's you to be(and you'll become orthodox!)it means in translation, straight dogma, not to left not to right but the middle, the perfect harmony, but much more i can't tell you cause you have a bug in your sistem ,and untill you delete these virus and empty your head from everithing, you can't become orthodox, and you will think buddhism and orthodox are same.

  • @innocentul

I don't think buddhism and orthodox are the same. The larger issue here is whether or not one believes god is outside of the true self. There is no outside. The universe is inside god - this is how I see orthodox (not just Christianity) , but orthodox is not about devaluing the free will of others. You don't need to belong to any artificial construct to go into heaven. The purification is with that which the mind cannot comprehend.

  • @innocentul

You aren't in the state of consciousness to represent to yourself what I have meant.

  • @innocentul

More was said here than the words you read.

  • @innocentul

My choices are not up to you. I must inform you that I practice no religion, not even buddhism. But I do practice spirituality without dogmas. I simply defend the divine core/cord in all religions, despite the millions of years of corruption spewed by space faring Anunnaki (fallen angels).

  • @MaBu888 and you will think they are simillar cause the buddhism is satan creation of imitating but only enough to atract people, combining good and wrong togetter. The same temptation since ever, the most old one! do these and you will become god! that's buddhism.. and orthodoxy is to become nothing-that's what we are, so that God can give you His life and become One with Him,united ,that's what an orthodox man is.The diferent between orthodoxy and buddhism east and west or the earth and the sky

  • @innocentul

You gravely misrepresent the god-connected current of buddhism. This current does not relate to the replacement of what truly IS (beyond any concept such as collective or individual or personal or transpersonal), by someone BECOMING god, but by one realizing who one already is (is not god but is nameless), and THEREFORE one traversing humbleness (key to Understanding), and through lightedness. The assumption of godforms is NOT the intention to replace anyone or anything that IS.

  • @MaBu888 You really wanna have knollege? just read the life of Saint Anthony and i can't express in words what you will find there! But just do it! It will take you one hour! You will be sos, so, so surprised.. But in a good way..It will worm your heart, and yes you will learn to discern the lights, the fake one, the pride one of the REAL ONE that comes to a man after that man becomes sohumble that he will simply digest the hall hell in his heart-exacly the other way-of becoming powerfull, get it?

  • @innocentul

"man becomes sohumble that he will simply digest the hall hell in his heart-exacly the other way-of becoming powerfull, get it?"

This is exactly the method done in many forms of Buddhism. All ego identification is transmuted into pure consciousness without sin/karma.

  • @innocentul

    Knowledge is inferior to wisdom.

"man becomes sohumble that he will simply digest the hall hell in his heart-exacly the other way-of becoming powerfull, get it?"

The Buddhist way is of humbleness. So great humbleness that THOUGHTS THEMSELVES GO AWAY FOR A TIME AND THE HEART SPEAKS ITS WISDOM IN SILENCE, as it is in all religions.

  • @MaBu888 Sorry-read the life of Saint Anthony the great, not just anthony-that's another one ..

  • @Ashiman12 you got it so wrong! he is an pure 100 % orthodox! these is orthodoxy, something you western world are missing with your catholic and protestant extremes.. read a orthodox Saint and you will feel exacly if not much more, the same thing! read Saint Silouane, only a frase and it will destroy all your false image about the world that you have with zen and buddha .. in my language buddha means toilet ,an outside toilet very smelly.. orthodoxy? Heaven, Noe's arch, the bride of Christ

  • @innocentul people like you shouldnt speak

  • Composers have imitated late Stravinsky while dropping his serialism. That's a pity, in my view. It was the serialism that made Threni and Canticum Sacrum really ingenious. Part is nice, but I feel that something is missing.

  • Thank you Bolender, I like it when people explain the reasons of why they like something or not.

  • nothing can compare to the PASSIO recorded by Hilliard ensemble!!!! that one is so perfect!

  • as for the sound quality, i think some youtube videos are just like that.

what i would like to question is the recording itself... you can hear somebody moving and breathing very close to the microphone, and in the third minute you can even hear them clear their throat! if this is a professional job then shame on whoever arranged it. this kind of crap ruins perfectly good music.

  • I doubt it is given that this is only the first 8 minutes of a roughly 75 minute long piece

  • the first minute is epic the rest sucks in my opinion

  • Wonderful.

  • FAIL, this video should be more public! Such beautiful music! T_T

Ah, but the recording could be greater, maybe my speakers suck...
