Not sure if it's the pressing or the cart, but I most definitely prefer the zyx. The highs are a notch higher with the DV-20X but I love the warmth of the r100h. If you have any doo wop I'd love to hear what would sound like on one of these carts. If not I'd be happy to send you a record or two for shits and giggles.
@Threemicsrecords My HD 650's sounded very good, very forgiving and warm sounding. The HD 800's are totally different. The bass is more extended without the 650's mid-bass bump, the mid-range is purer giving instruments room to breathe, and the highs are faster and cleaner then the 650's. You can hear deeper into the mix with everything sounding more real, like the skin of drums or the body of a guitar. I'm completely blown away every time I put them on. :)
@BSD2000 I guess they know what they're doing by asking so much money for them. It is crazy that I spent less money on used Revel M20 speakers then I could have if I bough HD800. As for headphones, for now I am really happy with my HD600 and Grado 225 and Shure IEM E5. BTW, are you working as a sound engineer, or it is your hobby?
any of those people who think this type of system does sound any better than marantz receiver and cheap turntable needs to listen to this-- even compressed over a youtube video and played over cheap computer speakers the sound is amazing!!
@BSD2000 I know what you mean, i've owned marantz, Gemini, Stanton, Technics 1200 and a Project prospective any nothing come close to my Rega. I guess its like anything else. personal taste. My next upgrade will probably be an outboard PSU. I do have a dual stainless steel pulley coming in. Just like the P7 and P9..
Wonderful!!! What happened to my REGA P25 buddy? LOL.. Congrats on that table!! Sounds amazing. I'm starting to edit my videos alittle better. I did have adobe cs3 but I'm learning slowly. I use virtualdub. I have this Record by the way. Maybe I'll do a response video. I think there is someone else with this Song on Utube. I think he had some waterfall effect going on. His sounds excellent also
@Migkiller1971 I use Adobe Premiere in the CS4 package to capture and edit my videos.
I seen the video you mentioned, posted by 'ConradJonson'. His video introduced me to Holly Cole and from then on, I knew had to have that album. Last month, I finally picked up a copy for myself. I have the Classic Records single 33rpm release, but I would love to find the 2LP/45rpm release at a decent price. :)
I plan on posting more songs from the album in the near future.
Wonderful! That is what my setup wants to be when it grows up! I see you have the Revox out, are you going to make an upload of it soon? I'd like to hear a recording comparison with DBX on/off.
@gilmour509 Thanks Evan! Yeah, I got the Revox out, but I ended up breaking it. It blew a fuse while I was recording a song for a new video. I replaced the fuse and something inside let the magic smoke out. :(
I know what the problem is and parts are on order. I should've replaced all the caps when I had the chance. The dbx 224 is a new addition. The Revox + dbx 224 unit is jaw dropping, I highly recommend finding a dbx NR for your R2R. I picked it up for $40 on Ebay. Well worth it.
@lshin80 The Zyx weighs 4.2g and the Dynavector is 9.3g - over twice as much. I'm not sure myself why the Zyx is not a good match, even after I added an extra 4.5g headshell weight. In the previous video I posted (Thelma Houston), I used the Zyx with the headshell weight, and it sounds good, but it's kind of dry and flat. It's interesting (but time consuming) to experiment to find the right synergy between components. So far, the VPI likes the Dynavector and the Rega loves the Zyx.
Very nice set up and superb sound.

How is a sound of your Headphones, I own HD600 and they sound great, I cannot imaging how good 800 might sound :)

It's strange that the ZYX doesn't perform well on this TT. Maybe the tonearm is too light for the cartridge?
Otherwise, fantastic equipment!! :)
