this film had a brilliant cast - saw it first in the cinema and went to see the stage show about a year later - and was so disappointed - the dancing was nowhere near as good as the film and neither was the singing
@bagpussvamp Thing to keep in mind is, movies are NOT reality, since the director and all the other mugwumps who have a hand in it, get their little hands on the film takes and . . . it just ain't reality, no more than what, the red carpet strut with the dresses, the political scene with the makeup and speechwriters . . . well, you get the idea. Stay true to what you know, and your thinkin' apparatus.
The people who made this film took one of the greatest musicals ever, groundbreaking, & a real piece of Musical Theatre history -and turned it into a piece of drek. That took some real concentration.
@maelgie- that is not fosse's daughter. fosse's daughter is cristine- not bebe. bebe later danced with michael jackson and was the dance captain on showgirls
@maelgie the funny thing is, that's Bob Fosse's daughter lol... you'd think that she'd be pretty good at dancing, what with Broadway legends for parents haha. Her character is supposed to not have her shit together, though - she's really scatterbrained and stuff in the original play.
Michelle Johnston - what can you say? She is fierce in everything she does.... "Staying Alive", "A Chorus Line", "Showgirls", the Tony Bennett special, "Chicago", "Dick Tracy", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"... I see her in movies and television all the time and she' s a big time choreographer I hear. WOW - Work it out miss thang!!!
you're definitelly not alone in this. This is the best scene I have ever seen in a movie. It makes me chill, it makes me wanna cry. It makes me feel like there is something missing in my life. Her moves, her face are so intense.. I want to watch it over n over again..
First, I'll say that I agree with "dogodogo78", This is one of the most intense scenes ever shot. Thank you Hollywood.
Hi thalialoca, you're not alone. It;s not uncommon for anyone to identify with a well shot and acted scence from a movie. That's what the writer was hoping for.
Our minds are so fraigle. Enjoy life. It's so damn short.
I thought about what you and "dogodogo78" and "luckysmartgirl2 " said. So I come to the conclusion that she somehow managed to transform and expand the moment of an orgasm to dance. Imagine a tecnic or an art which can deliver these feelings. That would be better than paradise. That would explain why this scene is so powerful. As she looks "innocent " "first orgasm" comes to mind. That is what GoGo Dancers and Striptease Dancers also try to evoke.
@Sarahlou2485 Darlin', you probably dance better than what, 98 percent of anybody you will meet in your lifetime.
Just keep watching and taking notes on the best, and use those POSITIVE affirmations, like -- Hey, I can do HALF of THAT!! . . . Hey, I can do 3/4 of that! . . . Hey! I can DO THAT! (practice, practice, practice, gets you to Carnegie Hall!
AGH!!!..My favorite part in the opening scene!!...LOVE IT...she's so strong. You can tell how much drive she has directly from her movement!..." Hit! Hit! Hit! Hit!"....Great!
if this is true, tell her what i liked the most about this part: her scared face as a little girl... and then suddenly she transformed into the most powerful woman!! nobody could stop her and she ate everyone!!! until music stopped again... WOW... i'm almost crying remembering all this and thinking that i'm not dancing anymore :(
I have been trying to find a high quality version of this clip and am SO happy I found it. I am SO into the character of Bebe (Beatrice Ann) Benson, she was totally the BEST dancer in the entire movie. Her character needed to be fleshed out a LOT more. I hear she was also damned good in Showgirls, if I may be allowed to use the words "good" and "Showgirls" in the same sentence....
. . . and I'd probly wanna to F*K her if she weighed more than 89 lbs/44 kilos.
