About a year ago, I had to move some old books from my closet to the shed. The books spent about a week on my bedroom floor before I could find enough boxes to pack them all in. Long story short, I had bites all over my body, thought it was a rash, couldn't sleep from the itch, got tested for syphilis just in case etc. etc. Then, I just vacuumed the room in detail and left the window open for 3 days (it was winter). They froze and now they're gone :)

I just beat the shit out of the little devils in my place. I used silica beads you can get some other stuff that non toxic as well that does the same thing. Silica is the stuff you find when you buy electronics in little packets. It kills the bed bug in hours by drying it out. I also used a steamer and my shop vac on the beds. Not a carpet steamer. Then spread the silica on the floors and use a candle to create the co2 so they would go to that and not another room.
