  • Sad and depressing. But so ray Bradbury

  • SergeiSovietUnion1's comment is gone. What did it say?

  • American NMD program fail.

  • what the FUCK did I just watch?

  • Bradbury rocks!

  • This reminds me of a combination of Fallout and the Animatrix. One of the eeriest and darkest animations I've ever seen other than a couple of animes. Russians have some incredibly creative, if dark and creepy talent.

  • The cock has long since crowed

  • Toasty...mmm

  • Nice one, Charlie. Look what you done to yourself! Next time try using a bird trap, stupid robot -_-"

  • even though it has some awkwardly explained moments, I think the scene with the bird trying to fly into the idyllic landscape with green pastures is probably the most moving or emotional scene I've seen in an animated short in a long time.

  • English:

2:38 Why is that Record in English?

  • @pokykid01 Because it's set in California, genius. It's about the dangers of Capitalism after all.

  • @n3uromante

Non., its dangers of nuclear war! In this war will not be a winner!

  • @Rain777Dog But look at how they used to live. A dehumanizing dystopia. Religion is also mocked and I think it's implicit that the war was caused by capitalists. Of course I'm trying to guess what message the guys that made this were trying to spread.

  • @pokykid01 Because action occurs in America, it is quite logical.

  • TAKE THAT, JESUS!

  • Кто поет "the moon was yellow, and the night was young" ?

  • @Geometryalgebra

  • That doll must be made of asbestos.

  • the cock exploded hard.

  • i like the english version better as in relation to the story. this version is funny as fuck!!

E: "Not one would mind Neither bird nor tree If mankind perished utterly And Spring herself when she wake at down Would scarcely known that we were gone"
  • God this made me depressed ><

  • We watched this in English class today... soooo fucked. 'But I liked it, it was very good. A great story itself, as well.

  • So everyone died at night?

  • We watched this in my English class two years ago, and it is still as intensely frightening now as it was then.

Infinitely creepier than the story upon which it was based.

  • @HaiHowsYouMom WHAT THE FUCK?

  • This is a really good adaptation of the original story.

  • I enjoyed the Russian flavor of this animated story.

  • @SergeiSovietUnion1 This is not in defense of western cartoons, but this is based on a short story by a westerner. Just in case you didn't know.

  • @SergeiSovietUnion1 and besides what Unownshipper said being right you have to realize that this was made based on what Russians believe Americans are like. The two main problems that it has that is not what Americans truly, first is on thanks giving we don't treat new years like a national holiday like our July 4th. The other is we don't like the idea of a big machine that looks quite scary and has a scary voice as something to have around... we would find it quite upsetting really. (char. lim)

  • @SergeiSovietUnion1

It's really not fair to compare this, an animated short film, to a common cartoon. This probably had a far better budget, art department, and writing team than a typical afternoon cartoon. Besides, the 2 things have different goals: a cartoon seeks to provide distraction and amusement while this inspires the audience to reflect.

Lastly, the short story that this film is based on, "There Will Come Soft Rains," is a piece of Western Literature by American author Ray Bradbury.

  • Wall-i?

  • 1:13 is a fucking terminator armor

  • @SergeiSovietUnion1 even though this is an american story, that is based in an american city after it was destroyed by soviet russia, way to ignore the beauty of both the animation and the story, i think the whole idea was that there are certain things that cross cultural boundaries, the aftermath of a nuclear war is one of them.

  • @marcabfleetcommand Yeah, also, both the USA and USSR employed the Mutually Assured Destruction doctrine. No matter which country fired first (the short story doesn't put the blame on either side), the other side would automatically retaliate, wiping both countries, and all their allies off the map. Many short stories at the time made a point of not blaming a side, just pointing out how bat shit crazy the idea is, and the many ways this could go wrong (like cosmic rays fooling blast detectors).

  • They should really make a compillation of all this great russian animation with GOOD translation and let the people know this great master pieces. It's imposible to find fine copies and is a real shame.

  • soundcloud. com/ kitris/there-will-come-soft-rains

my song which was written under influence from this

  • in 10 years, this cartoon was creepy ... such cartoons showing children after time, after the news

  • DUDE this is based on the book "There will come soft rains" its in the future and the house runs everything like the maintenance and stuff. The people who own the house are dust because of a nuclear explosion that happened. The robot house thing doesnt know everyone is dead yet.... I read a excerpt thingy from this book.

  • anyone know the song that's playing? the one with the man singing?

  • @rozeemarijn

The moon was yellow, исполнитель Bing Crosby

  • @MistyKid18 thank you kindly!!!

  • i thought this was sad

  • Ohgod, It's so amazing. c:

  • What was the stuff in its eyes?

  • @ilovesidx Wiring, electrical parts.

  • this is creapy as hell... they played this to their kids???

  • @corak234 No, this was called in USSR - animation for adults and showed on TV only after 23.00 .

  • @corak234 No, this was called in USSR - animation for adults and showed on TV only after 23.00 .

  • does Borat know about this Uzbek film?

  • Thank you Ray Bradbury, for writing this short story to being with.

  • i think i reviewed this short story version when i was 11/12.

  • Anyone know who the singer is? "The moon is yellow" song..

  • @KAKAWCAKE

It`s Frank Sinatra - The Moon Was Yellow.

  • @MrStalky That surely isn't Frank Sinatra's version :D

  • This isn't a perfect adaptation of the story (I would've loved to see the silhouettes described in that, with the family caught mid-movement), but it captures the feel of it really well. Go Russian animators!

  • Someone please tell me what the fuck I just watched... Also, what were them things in the robots eyes? o.o

  • Soviet pseudo3D rules!!!

  • Soviet pseudo3D rules!!!

  • Ah, they made a movie about Fallout, cool.

  • @Vaicurious Thumbs down... Way down...

  • @Vaicurious actually this story inspired a house in i think germantown in fallout 3 where a robot tries to wake its family and recites the poem that gave the story its name, among other things.

  • @marcabfleetcommand I'm pretty sure that house is in Washington DC

  • Ha! H.R. Giger nervously smokes!

  • AMERICA~

    FUCK YEAH!

CUMMIN' AGAIN TO SAVE THE MUTHAFUCKIN DAY, YEAH!!

  • What the fuck did I just watch?

  • This is all kinds of creepy. Never new this story got animated. Not as good as I would have liked, but it is great nonetheless.

  • Wow... This isn't anything like the story.

In the story, the people were destroyed by a nuclear war. Their silohettes were still burned into the side of the house. The machines continued cleaning the house, making food, ectect. The house was then destroyed by a fire. Since the house had continued to draw baths and such, its emergency water supplie was not enough to put out the fire.

I also read the story in english >.<

  • @HolyPokenerd It's not supposed to be anything like the story. It's called a loose adaptation. I, for one, find it to be very creepy compared to the original.

  • @DodongoMark, @KAKAWCAKE

That's Bing Crosby. The song is called "The moon was yellow and the night was young".

  • "The cock has long since crowed."

  • Anyone know who the singer is?

  • I guess this is what might happen in the future with so much technological advancement that robots will surpass humans, destroy them and outlive them. Or there was a nuclear war ... that would explain the ashes. =S

  • @xPorcelainLolitax probably nuclear war, robots were made to serve us but they dont know that we die so they continue to do so

  • @xPorcelainLolitax it was about nuclear war.

  • Depressing.. although I wonder why only the humans turned to ashes, and nothing else inside the house? Or does that have significance to a message I'm not getting...

    anyway, this is brilliant.

  • @GreenBlackValentine

Things, even vinyl records and mechanisms survive ages, people don't.

  • Im just gonna try, but does anyone happen to know who would be the singer of the song when it gets to Mrs McClellan?

  • Poor birdy. Trying to go through the screen at the end there.

  • A russian tango

  • @SergeiSovietUnion1

They are children for a reason.

  • Sounds like the Wishgranter in S.T.A.L.K.E.R

  • @worldofroberto check out the tarkovsky movie stalker that inspired the game, its a mindfuck

  • Dead Space&Bioshock, huh?

  • Comment removed

  • it kinda makes you think about what would happen with man-made creations in the event of a nuclear war

  • I love this, it's so eerie.

  • This is one of the best films I've ever seen. Even though it's rather far from the original story that I loved since my childhood.

  • See guys? The idea of a Fallout universe visited the minds of soviet animators long before Interplay game studio was created.

  • @sergeontheloose its based on a poem by a Amercian writer

  • @sergeontheloose old news, the original fallout was inspired heavily by the game wasteland, and this story among many many others, fallout 3 was especially inspired by the book "the road" which was then made into a movie heavily inspired by fallout 3.

  • @HaiHowsYouMom How shallow :/

  • this is scary!! This will hapen to mankind if there is another war upon us and neither bird nor tree will care if mankind perished utterly...

  • awesome

  • This animation has haunted me for years! Now finally I can see it again in a adult mindset. It's ust as frightening and powerful as it was in my childhood.

  • Wasnt it alone all the time? All i've Seen was dust

  • @Trollyulian Ashes. From some sort of nuclear explosion.

  • @Trollyulian yes it was but ti was programmed to do all those actions on itself

  • I didnt get the robot exploding part

  • @elementdragon2

It committed suicide. Really. I think it realized that everything is gone and hit it`s reactor core on purpose of ending it`s eternal serving.

Even machines can`t stand being alone.

  • @dmitriyparfenov

I think after it blinded itself it was still trying to kill the bird, it heard the tweeting and tried to attack on sound alone. Killing itself in the process.

  • Soviet Russia never made Skynet, but if they did...

  • What the fuck?

  • Without a doubt the most depressing thing I have seen in my life.

  • @terminegger True. And without a doubt Bradbury is the most depressing SF writer I ever read.

  • The security system is extreme, man

  • My teacher showed us this video yesterday. it was so freaky.

  • @SyrusGX

    wth .

    what class was this ?

  • @BetterxDays English. We read the story "There Will Come Soft Rains"

  • Fuck that robot, Im staying in my room

  • fuckin awesome

  • My teacher showed this to us in my school...nightmares mr.hayes nightmares

  • Great cartoon - not for children I guess...

  • Excentent vision about the future.. good animation!!

  • how tragic

  • Lol that would suck, if you don't wake up in time the computer dumps you out xP

  • WTF?!

  • I have seen a lot of very cool Russian cartoons from the 70s and 80s, but this is the best I have seen

  • @Treknologist what about Tales of Tales? ;)

  • This is about a nuclear holocast.

  • The cock has long since crowed.

  • The cold war was still in full swing back then...creepy as hell.

  • Mrs. McClellan? As in... Clarisse McClellan?

  • @soyrwoo

Didn't she get runover by a car? Though I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think you are referring Farennheit 451.

  • @unabomberman

She did get run over in Fahrenheit 451, but her family appears in multiple Bradbury stories. Maybe it's a relative?

  • This video.. realy disturbed me.

  • 2027? only 17 more years, people! woooo!

  • what is the song playing at 2:48 and who is it by?

  • 23 people accidently hit dislike.

  • Ironic, we are living this film presently. Slowly killing our own species in a social pantomime of false safety through consumption. Ending with our grandchildren's dissolution though environmental and epigenetic degradation.

    "Better deteriorating through chemistry."

    Nice share, thank you!!!

    -b- KCMO

  • Woah, very freaky. I love the animation, and it left you wondering what happened in the end.

That robot is scary. I agree with XxMarioBilllxX, I wouldn't want to wake up to that voice. o_o

  • See children, a-bombs are bad, mmkay?

  • I'm...very scared.

  • Jesus I would never want to wake up to that voice 0_____0

  • This was featured on Creepypasta.

    THEN WHO WAS RESIDENTS?

  • this is hardly accurate to the short story :(

  • @soulofhiroshi Well... it doesn't follow it perfectly... few film adaptations do, but pretty much the same things happen.

  • This makes me sad because its true. :<

  • The soviet cartoons and movies were really awesome…

  • "Maaaaybeeee..." )) The war never changed...

  • Amazing !!!

  • This is really creepy... as was the novel.

  • INTERSTELLA 5555 o__O

  • Wow, this... this made me sad. :( I like it...

  • Would that robot have gone apeshit if a bird flew in the house in a non-apocalyptic setting? If it thought Mrs Mclellan was in the chair it had no problem smashing her across the room to try and catch it.

  • @sventoby If there were people in the house, they could just turn the robot off. It only had attacked the bird because it came in without permission.
